THE BRUCE FAMILY INVITES YOU TO EXPERIENCE THE TIDES AT TENANTS HARBOR!

We are very excited to extend a warm invitation to you, your family and friends to enjoy our vacation home in Tenants Harbor, Maine. From the moment you drive down Mechanic Street and see the Harbor, the lobster and sailboats, Southern Island, and the Atlantic Ocean you will know you are someplace very special.

There is nothing quite like waking up in the morning to the sound of the lighthouse bell from Southern Island or lobstermen heading out to seize their day's bounty. You will enjoy both harbor and ocean views from our multiple decks while sipping a fresh cup of coffee with a cool morning breeze blowing. Maybe your day will include a local festival, crabbing with the kids off the town dock, a day sail and picnic on a coastal island, or maybe it is just relaxing in a chair on our lush lawn with a good book and taking in the harbor activity.

As the afternoon winds down your stomach will probably be craving something off those lobster and fishing boats you have been watching all day. You can enjoy a lobster or clam bake you prepare on the rocks (lobster/clam bake kit included at the house) or head to one of the many local restaurants; either way we promise you will not be disappointed.

Whether you end the night with an ice cream cone from our favorite shop in Port Clyde or a game of Scrabble from our well-stocked game room - or both, you will sleep well for sure and the good news is you can get up and do it all again five more days! Please come and enjoy all Maine has to offer at our vacation home, The Tides at Tenants Harbor.

The Tides certainly lives up to the description of "breathtaking ocean views." We rented the house for a week with two other couples and every single one of us had the same reaction when we walked out onto the deck for the first time - "WOW!" We all quickly got into the habit of getting up early, grabbing a cup of coffee and heading out to the deck to watch the boats in the little harbor as they came and went, with the cocktail hour spent in the same manner. Throughout the entire week, none of us grew at all tired of just looking out over the perfectly manicured property to the water. At the entrance of the harbor is Andrew Wythe's island (his son, Jamie, evidently lives there now), and the one evening it was foggy the island seemed to appear and disappear repeatedly, a truly memorable sight. The house itself was immaculate, with so many charming personal touches that it felt much more like a real home than a rental property. The owner, Skye Bruce, was very pleasant and helpful. The location itself was perfect - one of our company enjoyed taking a short walk each morning to the Tenants Harbor General Store for the daily papers, several evenings we went next door to the East Wind Inn for a delicious dinner, and also found the Inn a wonderful place for breakfast (the blueberry pancakes are awesome). Thomaston was about 20 minutes away, Rockland about 25 minutes, and Port Clyde less than 15. Port Clyde has a fascinating general store where you can get everything from fresh-off-the-boat live lobsters to pizza, and a lovely gift shop upstairs. The Dip Net restaurant in back of the store was a favorite spot for lunch, and a great ice cream shop is just up the street. We were there early in June, and several of the restaurants that we had wanted to try didn't open until the middle of the month, but two that we would heartily recommend are the Craignair Inn in Spruce Head, which has great charm, and the Harpoon Restaurant between Tenants Harbor and Port Clyde (the bar there is lively, with peanut shells on the floor, and the separate dining room is decorated in a fun, eclectic manner with great food). The one issue which I feel should be mentioned is that the house does consist of several levels, and the stairs are all quite steep and narrow (although the owners have provided sturdy railings), and this could present a problem for anyone having mobility issues. Other than that, I would not only recommend The Tides, but hope to return in the future!

David and I purchased this home in September 2006 - and have named it The Tides at Tenants Harbor- . It was formerly owned by The East Wind Inn and used as a multi-unit rental in conjunction with the Inn. We have put on a new roof, cleaned the siding, put in new floors, put in all new carpet, added new bedd, chairs and couches and put our decorating touch throughout. It is a home we have worked hard to prepare for the 2007 rental season - and we hope you will stay with us. Visit our rental website at TheTidesMaine to see more pictures.
