Why the Owner Chose Mount Hood

Mt Hood is truly majestic, it's amzingly green year round and has the most beautiful rivers, streams, and waterfalls we've ever seen. We love the snow and sking in the winter, mushroom picking in the spring, fall is breathtaking and you can't beat the summers. It is our favorite home away from home.

The Unique Benefits of this Cabin

As soon as I get to the Capstone, I take in a deep breath and instantly feel peaceful and relaxed. It gives me a sense of overwhelming joy to be in a log home, looking out at the peak of the Mountain. We love that our boys have a place to come to and explore the forest and wildlife around them that is so different from where they live. It's a new world to them. Our best memories are from family vacations at the cabin. That is why we love to share our special place with others. I love the feedback I get from guests that have had wonderful experiences at the cabin.

Texas size cabin

Wonderful clean, roomy cabin. Loved the openness and huge master suite, stocked kitchen. Everyone had a great time. Sat. woke up and came down the stairs to 3 inches of fresh snow, and Christmas carols playing on radio, was a Norman Rockwell moment. Close in to the Mt. for snowshoeing, and tubing, then come back and long soak in the spacious covered hot tub.Exploring the property and taking a hike at night very enjoyable, quiet, peaceful and great for stargazing. Would love to come back and stay an entire week and would recommend to friends!!

Winter/Whelan/Winter Christmas in Oregon

I would consider this one of the best buys for your money in the area if you are looking for a home for several people. We had my son and daughter in law, & two small children, my daughter &husband & our 22 year old son. We were very thankful for all of the baby supplies. All a plus for not having to haul your own. The family of 4 took the master suite to have with the babies. DIdn't work at first but then put one of them out on the upper landing next to the bedroom so they couldn't hear each other in the night, and that area worked great. The place was huge with plenty of floor room to run around in and tire out the 17month old. The first floor bedroom was scooped up right away by the 22 year old so he could stay up late and watch tv. We enjoyed the view of Mt. Hood from the front door. Also snowed a lot and we could walk out the front door and go snowshoeing. Beautiful and breathtaking. The listing was very accurate and the amenities were good. It was well cleaned and we would recommend this property to anyone! Hot tub was a hit for our group!!! Lots of sore and tired muscles at the end of the day. Our small recommendations for change or amenities would be minor. With that many people would have liked to have seen more towels. Not so much for everyday use but for hottub use. Maybe different in color or size. With people skiiing and sometimes using more than one towel a day we seemed to run short with 9 people, using them for both even with doing laundry. The kitchen could use an upgrade of fry pans and a few other items and pantry maybe lined, but overall well stocked. Wish there were a shower in the master bedroom instead of the giant tub or a combination. The shower downstairs off kitchen was the best which most everyone used. Easy to walk in and out of. Heat lamps were great! We enjoyed the fire the first night but only used once as with the babies it didn't quite seem to vent upstair well as need for little ones, but for adults not an issue. The only thing we missed that we should have brought, but thought would be there were humidifiers. With the elevation and dryness they would be a great asset to the place for the bedrooms at night for sleeping. If you are there for a period of time, a dresser in the other bedrooms would be an asset. We enjoyed our stay immensely the owners correspondence terrific, and we would go back in a flash. My grown children were impressed and thankful that I found such a great place for Christmas! Thank You Lori!

Another Great Stay

Guest: Stamper47 (Gresham,OR)
Date of Stay: 10/16/09 Review Submitted: 10/31/09

This is the second year our Scrapbook Club has stayed at Capstone Lodge and it was another great experience. We love the warmth and spaciousness of the house. There are plenty of comfortable beds for our whole group and the huge log table is perfect for our group to lay out all the scrapbooking items. After crafting most of the day, we can fix our dinner in the very well equipped kitchen, soak in the hot tub and then relax in the big living room to watch a movie together. The location just speaks for itself - awesome! Can't say enough good things. Thanks Bill and Lori.

Fun snowy 5-day stay with little ones

Guest: ks-mv (Portland, OR)
Date of Stay: 01/21/09 Review Submitted: 02/18/09

We had a great 5 day stay at Capstone Lodge with our 2 and 4 year old children. They were bonkers over many aspects of the house, esp. the little billiard table upstairs. We loved roaming the snow covered yard with sleds, cross country skiis and just playing. The snow was initially iced over and uneven, but the additional snow fall later in our stay changed that. The lodge is huge and we loved all the extra space. It took us 15 or 20 minutes to get to Government Camp where we inner tubed and skied. My husband loved the hot tub. The setting for the house is beautiful, rural and private. We were very comfortable, the lodge was clean and as advertised. The last night our friends with 3 children the same age as ours came. We all had so much fun together and still had plenty of room to spare. There were a couple very minor items: the dining room table was difficult and precarious for our children to eat at (it's a cool log table, our 4 year old had to stand on the floor or both could stand on the seat to reach their plate of food, or eat elevated on our lap), there isn't much sound protection between floors, and the knives weren't very sharp so we'll bring our own in the future. Once we found the heater we had missed behind the living room couch and turned it on, we were warm. Like I said, very minor items. We very much look forward to visiting again next winter.

What an absoultely beautiful rental home to bring your family to. I gathered all my children and friends to spend some time before Christmas and we were blown away at the house. A christmas tree was set up, there were plenty of games and movies to watch. Snow on the ground. The master bedroom was my dream come true. Complete kitchen to work in and the home was immaculate! I would refer people to this rental in an instant!

Great Family Thanksgiving 2008

Guest: wilson5 (San Juan Capistrano, CA)
Date of Stay: 11/25/08 Review Submitted: 12/10/08

I just wanted to thank you guys for sharing your home. We had a super great cozy Thanksgiving. The cabin was well-stocked, clean and the surrounding grounds were beautiful. We were able to take long walks to a nearby river and took night walks which were an adventure in itself. We loved the layout of the cabin because we were able to be in one room together and enjoy eachother's company. The weather couldn't have been better. It actually didn't rain until the very last day so we were really able to enjoy the outdoors. It is a great family gathering place and not very far from the ski area which makes it a great location for whatever you want to do. I would definitely return to Capstone Lodge and would recommend it to family and friends. Thanks again, Maria (San Juan Capistrano) Nov.2008

Great vacation spot

Guest: Emily from Portland (Portland, OR)
Date of Stay: 09/12/08 Review Submitted: 10/08/08

Some friends and I rented out the Capstone Log Lodge for a weekend in September. We had an excellent time! The cabin is very spacious and has room to fit a lot of people. The kitchen amenities were outstanding and allowed us to cook some great meals. The cabin is located close enough to Mt. Hood to be easy, but private enough to make you feel like you're in the middle of nowhere. I would highly recommend the Capstone Log Lodge for anyone looking for a great getaway!

The Family Vacation 2008

Hi, my name is George and I recently spent 4-nights with my family (6) in this wonderful Cabin. When I say wonderful, I mean wonderful! Upon entering, I said to my family (wife, 2-sons, fiance', and father), "now this is living!" The Cabin was everything I was told it would be, and the property owners treated us like first class. The size, decore, cleanliness, amenities, location, etc., could not have been any better. I would highly recommend this property to anyone who wants to live like a King for a time of their choice! Very professional and very accomodating. Thank you.
