Why the Owner Chose Blowing Rock
Our family hails from the Carolinas, and our ancestors were Scottish settlers to the Appalachian Mountains. These mountains are, in a very real sense, home for us, even though we are now scattered here and there. We love this condominium, Wren 301, which was one of the original condos built at the Chetola Resort in Blowing Rock. It’s situated on the top floor of a building that sits at the highest point of the resort, and it has the best views. We love nothing more than to sit on the porch in the early morning in a rocking chair with a cup of coffee and enjoy the views and the gentle breezes moving through the trees nearby.
The Unique Benefits at this Condominium
This is where we retreat to reconnect with one another, to write poetry, to visit historic sites, to find that special sale at the designer outlets down the road, or to get back in shape by hiking the trails nearby or working out in the fitness center. It’s one of the most peaceful places that we know of, and yet it has plenty of activities for singles, couples, friends, or families. It’s luxury at its most relaxed.
The condo is a 15-minute walk (5-minute drive) from Moses Cone State Park: in addition to the Moses Cone Manor House, whose gift shop offers unique items created by local artists and craftsmen, the Park also has miles of spacious “carriage trails” for walking and breathtaking views. Within easy driving distance are: Grandfather Mountain, where the July Scottish Highland Games are held, the famous Valle Crucis “mountain church frescos,” the Beech Mountain, Banner Elk, and Appalachian Ski Resorts, and Asheville, home of Biltmore House and Gardens, “America’s Castle.” Or, if visitors prefer to stay close by, they can explore mountain crafts or antiques in Blowing Rock’s quaint shops.
A few years back, we enjoyed updating the condo with lovely new furnishings and a rich, warm décor in the tones of the surrounding mountains. On seeing one of the prints that we picked out for the living room, the child of one guest asked, “Mommy, is that the land flowing with milk and honey?” That sums up how we feel about it – a place that is inviting to the spirit, peaceful to the mind, and rejuvenating to the soul. It is a privilege for us to own it, and we love sharing it with others. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
Owner's Map of Blowing Rock
We are a family of entrepreneurs, teachers, scholars, and designers, living in North Carolina and New York. We inherited the condo from an uncle who had taught overseas and who purchased the condo when he retired. He settled here, in part, because of our long-standing family connections to the Appalachians, but he also chose it for its views and wonderful amenities. We have been coming here for years, and we can't remember a trip when we didn't discover something new to do or see.
