Architect owner's beautifully restored 18th century Olive Mill faces full south across its own valley, with a river (several waterfalls & natural pools) & 30 acres of hills (ancient woodlands), wildflower, herbs, cherry, plum, fig & apricot trees as well as wild asparagus & truffles. The house, cottage & studio each has its own very private pool well away from the others, each in secluded grounds overlooking the valley (Cottage & Studio pools are heated in spring & autumn). ALL OF THE POOLS NOW HAVE IRON SAFETY FENCES. The river is spectacular, with large, clear pools & a 10m high waterfall. Golf at 30min, horse riding in the village, fishing in the river, idyllic walks & cross-country cycling. The Domain is completely private, but within easy walking distance of the village. Equidistant from Nice & Aix-en-Provence, with St Tropez an easy drive south.
As well as the outstanding scenic splendours of Provence at your doorstep (waterfalls, wine domains, ancient buildings & still-preserved hill villages to visit in the immediate area), less than an hour away are the fabulous Mediterranean coast, sandy beaches, sailing to the islands for a lazy day trip, glamorous shops, cafés&restaurants.
Drive to three of the most famous cities in Provence - Aix en Provence, Nice & Marseille(wonderful shops, galleries & restaurants).
You have your own private pool & a series of spectacular waterfalls with large natural pools in the river.
Please note, though, that river access is not suitable for very young children and requres some agility.
If you fish, bring your rod, because the river has trout and other local fish.
Sillans la Cascade is a medieval hill village in an area of outstanding natural beauty. Aups(a medieval walled town)is the truffle centre of eastern France.
Other local villages: Salernes is famous for its beautiful ceramics: tiles (decorative& plain), kitchen ware(jugs, pots, cooking utensils), vases- visitors generally find them irresistible. There is also a wonderful local market in the village square.Tourtour has an international music festival,& two outstanding restaurants for special occasions. The views from this “perched” village extend as far as the Mediterranean to the south and the mountains near Aix en Provence to the west. Cotignac is a walker’s paradise, with fascinating cave dwellings & several medieval monasteries. Entrecasteux’s chateau has outstanding gardens & art exhibitions/concerts all year. La Roquebrussane is the home of Provençale cooking:you can join a cooking class & spend the morning prepare lunch. Collobrieres celebrates the annual wine festival by running wine through the village fountains. The village nestles in chestnut forests and visitors come from all over France for the sugared chestnuts, chestnut purée & chestnut honey.
Excursions and activities: To the north the Gorges de Verdun & the Lake Ste Croix are ideal locations for exploring outstanding natural sites (The village nestles in chestnut forests and visitors come from all over France for the sugared chestnuts, chestnut purée & chestnut honey.sail on the lake itself).
To the south is the Côte d’Azur : sandy beaches, colourful ports (Grimaud & St Tropez) and ideal sailing (especially the 3 islands around Hyères).
There are excellent antique and Provençal products shops in Hyères, Cotignac, Salernes etc .Easy day trips include Aix-en-Provence, Nice, Monte Carlo and San Remo (Italy).
The Golf Club Barbaroux (designed by Pete & PB Dye )is 30mins away, at Brignoles. Horse riding is available in the village (day treks can be organized).

We had a wonderful time at the Cottage. Your daughter gave us a warm welcome and was always more than friendly to us. Please give her again our big thanks. Swimming in the river was an unforgettable experience for all of us (although no one was brave enough to jump over the waterfall). We enjoyed the privacy and having nature all around us. We had one of our best holidays ever there and our kids are already asking to book the same next year! Akiko & Gunnar, GermanyDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 8/8

We are all so appreciative of your support for our helper's visa - which has enabled us to have a REAL holiday, in the most beautiful, peaceful haven you have created. So sincerely, "thank you" and I'm sure we'll be back to Domaine des Baumes. Warmest wishes and appreciation. CaroleDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 8/8

We had a wonderful time, the children enjoyed the freedom of the open spaces and we didn’t have to worry when they were out of sight. The property provided every convenience and the log burner was welcome addition, staving off the evening chill (not as cool as back here in Britain mind you) Please pass on our thanks to your handyperson Catherine who was always at hand to help out. “Although still jet-lagged (we arrived home last night), I wanted to immediately write a quick thank-you for our magical week at the Cottage. I felt fairly certain when we made our booking that the Cottage was going to be nice, but it exceeded our expectations in so many ways -- the peaceful solitude, the beautiful setting, the fascinating history of the olive mill, the tasteful attention to every detail in the Cottage itself, the ability to settle in and feel at home, and last but decidedly not least, the charming Catherine. She is truly a gem. I would love to return to the Cottage. Perhaps, we can make that happen. In the meantime, with your generous hospitality, you have given Ty and me many happy memories of our first visit to Provence. Thank you, Alexia. Please convey our thanks, as well, to Catherine for her hard work, cheery disposition, and, of course, the wild asparagus!”Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 8/8

We stayed a week in late Oct. The cottage is a nice small apartment which is part of a big old former farm house - very charming especially because of the huge garden (more a park) surrounding the house. The apartment is well equipped and nicely decorated although the beds could be a bit more comfortable and the bath rooms might need some renovation sooner or later. The solar heated pools can not be used once it gets cooler as a relatively simple technology was installed (dark colored hose pipe). All in all a nice place, but slightly overpriced especially during low season. Karin and Markus, GenevaOwner response: "We stayed a week in late Oct. All in all a nice place, but slightly overpriced especially during low season. Karin and Markus, Geneva " Thank you for your generous remarks, Karin and Markus. As I wrote to you last October “We are so disappointed that you had bad weather.” This makes a huge difference and can spoil what might otherwise have been a near-perfect holiday. AND you left the Cottage in perfect order: thank you for this! Solar panels, btw, are either breakable units (like glass) or black rubber tubing. Ours is a commercial system in the latter category, and safer, given that our night time visitors include Mrs Wild Boar and her baby boars, who treat the park like their own (which I guess it is). Unfortunately, we can’t build a structure to carry glass panels, as (fortunately) we are in an ultra-protected zone subject to strict national building laws. Whichever system of solar pool heating one uses, it will not usually warm an open air pool in early spring or at October's end, even in Provence. As for the beds, I am sorry that you did not find them quite comfortable enough. It's a very personal thing and since the mattresses are good quality and replaced regularly, I'm not sure how much we can do to improve matters - perhaps we can make mattress toppers available to those who need one, so thank you for pointing this out. We hope that the next time you come to Provence the sun shines for you. May to the end of September are much, much brighter months than late October, which is more a walking, exploring, touring, reading by the wood-fire month.
