A perfect place to get away from it all!
A perfect place to get away from it all!
Plover's cottage is an absolutely fantastic place to stay. Mark has built a simple yet luxurious gem on the shores of Tauton Bay in North Sullivan, ME. Everyday at sunrise you are greeted by the amazing local wildlife and the lobster fishermen setting out their traps. You can build a cozy fire on cool nights in the stone hearth fireplace. It's a perfect place to keep all to yourself or share with another couple using the extra bedroom/bath. There is a wide open front yard to play fetch with dog. You will never run out of inlets, coves and islands to explore on the water using the kayaks. If you lucky you'll be greeted by the local seals sunning themselves on the rocks. You can also dig wild muscles out in the bay. Make sure to ask Mark about the local hidden beaches in the area. Plover's Cottage makes an excellent place to stay put and revive your senses or an ideal base to explore the Schoodic Peninsula and Acadia region. There is so much to see in this part of Maine I was amazed we felt like we had the place to ourselves. If you are willing to come a little further north of the chaos and throngs of tourists that is Acadia you will be greatly rewarded. Schoodic point and other attractions in this area of Maine are gorgeous. The locals are welcoming and you will find plenty of provisions to suit your tastes. What are you waiting for!

Charming Maine cottage
Charming Maine cottage
What an awesome place this is! A cottage in Maine right on the water just as you think it would be. This place has all the amenities you need and then some. It's off the beaten path so you're not surrounded by tourists. Just a perfect place to escape reality for awhile - calm, serene, waterfront, cozy! We would highly recommend this place to anyone wanting a great Maine trip. Close to Acadia and Bar Harbor.

As I sit in a full 2nd story bay window, on my laptop using the very fast Wi Fi and watching the sun play over the bay a few feet outside the window, while drinking my fresh coffee from Rooster's beans and served in a new "jordan pond" mug; it pains me to criticize this vacation cabin; but in the interests of perfecting it to the point of where demand will exclude us as future renters, here is my list of improvements: >Heating is problem-some, since the upstairs bathroom gets cold & The Rumford fireplace doesn't vent well, so smoke permeates house..that leaves a gas heater tucked away in corner under the stairs to heat the house. Bedroom bed was toasty and very comfortable. >Upstairs bathroom was dimly lit; there was nowhere to hang things like a hairdryer or hooks for a Dopp kit or nightie; nor were there shelves for toiletries. Couldn't set up radio there easily. Shower curtain rod was placed directly over the small lip at the edge of the shower enabling leaks on floor. It took a while for the hot water to come on, then it kept getting hotter and hotter...The night light for seeing the floor was an appreciated touch. Large fluffy towels took long time to dry, we used closet in Hall to hang them up. >The Kitchen was a camp kitchen and as a former baker who designed his own bakery, I tend to get a little picky about food prep. areas. A couple problem areas....no pull out shelves for utensils and way too many knives; a pot/pan overhead rack or even under counter hooks would have been an improvement over the piles under the counter; no vent over the four burners so if you sauteed anything the fumes went to the ceiling and circulated there. The oven wobbled. Over the top of it was a small wood fired bake oven that wasn't functioning. Loved to have baked in it. > The highly sophisticated Blu-Ray tuner/Samsung HDTV/router had no cable hook up, so we unplugged from TV and watched a series of action thriller DVD's. Excellent selection, fantastic screen!! Mark, the owner rebuilt it and we discussed the heating system...he does masonry and was quite open to suggestions since he built the fireplace! Overall a spectacular place to be for a week!!
