We've stayed at at least a half dozen properties at Massanutten for ski weekends. Cliffhanger tops the list in two respects: (1) it has the highest quality fixtures and furnishings - nothing "cheap" for renters; and (2) it has the best view. Lovely views out over the slopes and the mountains in the distance made a diffference for our non-skiiers. We had 3 generations and 14 people for three nights and a wonderful time. The only challenge is the steep access drive to reach the lovely perch where the house sits, but, hey, if you want flat, don't come to the mountains.

Recommended for:Families with teenagers, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We three families stayed and Cliffhanger and had a wonderful time. The space was great, with a place for the girls, men and kids. The home was more than we expected and the view of the slopes a plus! It had everything we needed and even the beds were comfortable. We would recommend this property and would definitely stay here again. The Owners were very pleasant, responsive and a pleasure to work with.

My family and I rented this property and two houses within walking distance to account for our huge family during the Thanksgiving weekend. It was a perfect location and the house was a great set-up for a large group. The kids quickly settled downstairs playing foossball and watching movies while the adults were upstairs making dinner. We grilled out one night and even braved the cold to sit on the deck and enjoy the view. The owners were also very helpful in suggesting nearby homes to account for our group and making accomodations we requested prior to our stay. There are also several attractions nearby including a waterpark and put put golf which our family was able to take part in. I definitely recommend this home!

Cliffhanger delivers an over-the-top experience!

We have been to rental homes all over the globe, and the Cliffhanger, we all agree, is among the elite. As the name implies we were perched in the tree tops presenting us no less than an eagle’s view of Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains. Although we were lucky enough to experience the Fall foliage, Cliffhanger’s view would be no less then glorious in any season. Inside the open, tri-level, floor plan provided ample room. From the great selection of video games and movies to the overstuffed couches, the home’s design gave everyone the venue to relax in total comfort. Cliffhanger’s fine appointments did not go unnoticed. The overall décor was extremely tasteful, presenting the perfect blend of cozy & lush. From the furniture to the bed linens Cliffhanger goes high-end on creature comforts. The kitchen was more than aptly stocked and allowed all “chefs” the supplies and space to whip it up! The two master suites and four full baths gave us the privacy so important when traveling multi-family style. Beautiful design both inside and out, every amenity provided with quality in mind, and enough space to be alone or together, Cliffhanger’s meticulous attention to detail coupled with the owners keen awareness of hospitality makes it a place we will visit again.

My family and I stayed at Cliffhanger for a few much-appreciated days of relaxation. The house is spacious and very well cared for. It felt like a home, not a rental. The view from the top balcony is spectacular, I can only imagine how much more scenic it is during ski season as the house has clear views of several of the trails. I highly recommend this house and will definitely be going back.

Our family spent Easter weekend (2010) staying at The Cliffhanger, and we all had the most relaxing weekend ever. The home is absolutely spectacular inside and outside! The view from the upper deck (of the ski slopes), is breath-taking, and it is apparent that the home has been meticulously cared for. Just about everything one needs to make themselves 'at home' is provided for. The owners are very accommodating, and exceptionally easy to work with. Our daughter is a Freshman at JMU, which is only about 10 miles (or so) from Massenutten, so the location is perfect for a family 'get-together' when she has a break from classes. Our entire weekend (actually a 3 night stay) at The Cliffhanger rates as "Perfect in every way"....So we will definately be back in the future!! I would highly recommend The Cliffhanger for those that want a fun filled vacation, or for anyone that just wants to 'get-away' for a few days of peaceful rest and relaxation. You'll absolutely love it!

This is a beautiful house with gorgeous views of the ski slopes. The kitchen is well equipped and the entire house is very well decorated. The owner was responsive to the rental request and provided excellent driving instructions and local information. We enjoyed our stay and would rent this house again!

I have a rather large group of friends (11) and it is often hard for us to find vacation homes. In my search I came across cliffhanger,and it most definitely stood apart from the rest. The pics online don't do this home justice. It is breathtaking, and the perfect size for my group or an even larger group. When talking to the owner (Wayne) he was very accommodating on letting us know all the details of the house,and very fast on responding to any and all questions myself or my group had. We are all adult working professionals,and not once did we feel cramped or crowded. The views from the house were picturesque, looking over the slopes. The house was very well appointed with a lot of amenities that most houses didn't provide ie; paper towels, toilet paper, tissue, laundry soap, towles and linens! The kitchen also had all the cook ware we could ask for ( since we love to cook and eat this meant a great deal to us). Very conveniently located on the ski resort property, it was close to everything. The only thing I will say that is not a ringing endorsement, is the house is located at the top of a large hill! Now we were warned ahead of time by the owners about this so were all prepared with our sport utilities, and did not have any problems. Everything was fantastic and we would definitely stay again. I rented this house for myself and my entire family for the Thanksgiving Holiday in 2009. We had a beautiful Memorable time, the house was clean, neat, with plenty of room for everyone. The view was spectacular and the hiking was fantastic. I would rent it again in the future.

Cliffhanger is an absolutely wonderful getaway! Spacious, beautifully appointed, spectacular views, great floorplan - just a few of the many wonders of this unique property. We stayed at The Cliffhanger over New Years, and had one of the best New Years weekends ever! It was plenty big enough for our multi-family vacation! Obviously the skiing was awesome. But we absolutely loved our time in the home as well. Having an upstairs family room, and a downstairs family room allowed the kids and parents to both have space when needed, and come together when we wanted. The huge kitchen table was great for our big family dinners, and the bedrooms were so comfortable and spacious! The upstairs loft was bonus space for anyone who wanted to escape for a little! We also enjoyed some nice hiking, and just loved the tranquility and view from high up the mountain. Memories were made that will last a lifetime! I highly recommend The Cliffhanger as a vacation destination!!!

We rented Cliffhanger for thanksgiving and the house was very well equipped for cooking a turkey, mashed potatoes, and lots of pies! The beds were really comfy and everything was in pristine condition. Coordinating with the owners was quick and easy and they provided lots of helpful information.

A wonderful home in a beautiful,peaceful setting! The spacious layout was perfect for our group. The kids were thrilled with their choice of bunk rooms, while each of the three adult couples were equally pleased with their spacious, nicely decorated private bed/bath suites. The two huge decks were also amazing spots for hanging out and taking in the view. The owners thought of everything--from kitchen supplies to a great notebook of resources in the area. (Our only disappointment had nothing to do with the house itself--just that the chairlift and tube park were closed on the weekends. Check the schedules!) Highly recommend!

Absolutely beautiful house! Luxurious with everything you can possibly need and more. Big, specious rooms, comfortable beds, a full kitchen and everything in working order. We loved the satellite dish and the DVR. We had a great time and can't recommend it enough. Great find!

graduation weekend

We are timeshare owners at Massanutten and my sons love it up there. My youngest just graduated this weekend from high school and instead of a party he wanted to go to Massanutten. We thought it would be special to rent a home and we picked the best. The home was beautiful, the veiw was awesome and the owners were so easy to work with. You can tell this home is well taken care of and the owners take pride in what they have. When we arrived everything was avaiable to us from tolitries to coffee. We had 12 people total 6 kids and 6 adults there was so much room it wasn't loud or cramped. I was a little leary at first because we have gone to places where the pictures on the internet look great but are different in person, this was not the case. Actually the house is more beautiful than the pictures give it credit for. The house was very clean and as I mentioned before had everything you could think of. The owners were awesome from the begining and we will definetly be doing more business with them. I would and have recommended this home to several frineds, family and collegues. Massanutten has everything for everyone. We had people from age 75 to age 7 and we were all happy. There is golf for the men, minature golf for the kids, and young at heart, the water park, hiking, swimming games rooms and yes ladies the spa. From activities to sceneary this is the place to vacation, two days like us or a week. We travel alot and all over the world but our favorite destination is Massanutten.

The house and its views were amazing! We were there in the fall of 07. This was a very clean house with accurate pictures on VRBO. We were in need of nothing. I would highly recommend this rental for a wonderful and relaxing vacation!

My family and I really enjoyed the Cliffhanger property. It is a beautiful house, with a beautiful view and all the comforts of home. The Massanutten resort is very nice, we spent most of our day at the indoor water park and at minature golf (both enjoyed very much by my children ages 8-12) and evenings were spent grilling out on the deck and watching movies on the wide assortment of tv's in the house. I highly recommend the Clffhanger. Mark
