What a great weekend we had up in your cabin. There was so much snow and it was very quiet and beautiful. The kids loved playing right outside the door. Our dog loved the snow a lot and we were so happy he came with us. The house was clean and simple and very comfortable. The kids loved the loft and the bike tire mirror. Thanks for making everything such an easy process!Recommended for: Pet owners, families with young children, sightseeing.

we spent 7 nights with family in July. Everybody loved it! Great location, kids did not want to leave. Its quiet and beautiful around the cabin. We spent evenings siting outside on the deck. Close to many wonderful day activities. Owner was so helpful to give us some links and ideas for day trips. The cabin is spacious and cozy. Will definitely come back and recommend to my friends. Thank you!!!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, pet owners, families with young children, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

Simple cabin with a great, open layout. Perfect for groups to lounge and relax. And we were happy to have our dogs join us too! We visited in June, and spent a lot of time swimming and hiking nearby (10 minute drive down to the river, but countless spots along the 4). I would like to return during the winter as it would be great place for snow activities: the cabin sits on a perfect hillside for sledding, and it is close to Bear Valley.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, pet owners, families with young children.

We wanted to get away with a real experience of being in the woods in a truly rustic cabin. We really lucked out. This place is so nice. It's very basic but it has everything we need and easily accommodated both our families and 4 kids. The deck is just terrific. Sitting out there looking into the woods couldn't be better. We actually went on hikes right from the cabin as well. Terrific, highly recommended.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, pet owners, families with young children, sightseeing.

We stayed here for a weekend in February. We had 6 adults, a baby and a big dog. We all fit in the cabin well and enjoyed our stay. We paid $180 per night plus a $90 cleaning fee. Pros: price, big table; well equipped kitchen; nice fireplace; quiet location; close to good hiking (we went down to the river via Boards Crossing Road and hiked a Jeep trail which was beautiful and a fairly easy hike; I think it would also be good for snowshoeing if there was enough snow on the ground) Cons: beds were pretty old and uncomfortable – ours sagged in the middle; no hand soap when we arrived – had to go buy some; we were expected to fully clean the place prior to leaving (wash hand towels, vacuum, mop, clean toilets, etc) yet also asked to pay $90 cleaning fee and bring own sheets and towels – not sure why; firewood was mostly 2x4s, some with nails in them – recommend bringing your own firewood; took several months to get our deposit back Overall I recommend this place, it was what I expected for the price.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, pet owners, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Sorry about your minor problems and our running out of firewood this rarely happens. I'm glad you had a great stay.

This is the most amazing place. We have 4 feet of snow right outside the door. Just amazing winter wonderland and in April! With the kids running down to the sled run that they made we hardly need to go anywhere. We have the fire stoked up in the wood stove so we're set. Glad you have lots of cooking equipment, pans pots. We made some great soups and stews Thanks for the great place we love it!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We had such a good time up there. It's so quite and the big trees all around make it seem like you're in your own private forest. Swimming at White Pines lake and the hikes made it really nice. The best part of the cabin is the high wood ceilings it feels so woodsy!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/1

We stayed in you cabin through that enormous snow fall in May. What a great place. you have a sled run right below the deck and it's so quite up here. Also, loved the wood work and interior of the cabin. We'll be back again!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

Wow, what a blast with our two families and all the girls. They just loved it up her. They all slept in the loft. We had a great time swimming at White Pines lake. The deck is great, the kitchen was simple but easy to use. And having two full bathrooms really makes a difference.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/1

About the owner: We own Mountain House our large rustic cabin for 14 years now. We purchased it with two other families that are good friends of ours. We love the Sierras and found our cabin, which is located on a half acre amongst tall cedars and pines, a perfect place for relaxing and as a base camp for swimming with our kids, hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, and in the Winter, cross country skiing. And of course, it's a perfect place for our dogs, we now have two. We love it up here, hope you can too.
Why the Owner Chose Dorrington:
We love the Sierras. And we particularly like the Hwy 4 area near Dorrington and Bear Valley. It's never too crowed as the Lake Tahoe often is. And, it's only a 3 hour drive from the Bay Area. It's easy to get around and spectacular views here. It's also unique, and wonderful up in the mountains where you get all four seasons of weather in a great wooded environment.
