Mountain House - This is not just another place to stay. It is very special and unique. With large all-wood, vaulted high ceilings in awesomely quiet, beautiful location in the tall firs and cedars. It is a perfect retreat from the Bay Area located near Arnold/Bear Valley area. It is just three hours from San Francisco.
You will find the temperatures in the mid 70's to 80's throughout the summer. Go for great walks in the woods right from the deck. Fishing, swimming, or kayaking only minutes from the front door.
And for kids, only 15 minutes away is White Pines Lake near Arnold for afternoon swims, swinging on the rope tree swing across the lake.
The winter months usually bring up to two feet of snow right at the cabin for easy and fun sledding from the front door. The driveway is plowed through the winter season as are the roads.
For skiing, our cabin is near Bear Valley and sleeps up to ten.

Year Purchased: 1999
We own Mountain House our large rustic cabin for 10 years now. We purchased it with two other families that are good friends of ours. We love the Sierras and found our cabin, which is located on a half acre amongst tall cedars and pines, a perfect place for relaxing and as a base camp for swimming with our kids, hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, and in the Winter, cross country skiing. And of course, it's a perfect place for our dog. We love it up here, hope you can too.
Why the Owner Chose Dorrington
We love the Sierras. Having traveled all over the U.S. much of Europe and parts of Asia I still find it unique, and wonderful up in the mountains here.
The Unique Benefits of this Cabin
Our cabin is so close to many great things. The Winters are special. We sometimes get 3 feet of snow right at the cabin and I can go cross country skiing less than 1/4 mile from our front door. Utica and Union Reservoirs which are actually glacial lakes that were dammed in the 1880's, are especially amazing with their granite islands. There's also the Stanislaus River, hiking in on trails, swimming at White Pine Lake with our kids where we can all kick back on a summer day. It's just wonderful up there.
