We have been vacationing in New Braunfels for 28 yrs. This rental home by far exceeds any place we have ever stayed and we travel allot. The whole experience revolves around the scenery, the coziness of the home, the extradinary beds, the decor, not to mention there is not one thing you can think of that you need to bring except maybe sweet n low for your coffee that is already there. My neices, nephews and grandchildren loved feeding the horse, Paketo,The Longhorns (Petey and Lucky) are amazing, Kitties (Dino and Blacky)would come curl in your lap while you drink your morning coffee with the humming birds. There in the pasture runs a weisel thru the taller grass as the deer look up . We are truly , totally in awe and so was all our visitors while we were there. We will defiately be back every year until they run us off and if it ever goes up for sale we will be in line to purchase this wonderful place as a retiremnet home, because it is already a slice of heaven.

My family & friends rented both the main house & cottage for a family vacation this past week (7/5/11-7/8/11). There were a total of 10 of us and the sleeping arrangements were perfect! The large dining table accommodated everyone with room to spare. The property was so peaceful and the landscaping was beautiful. There were at least 6 or 7 different sitting areas outside the home which we made plenty use of during the mornings and evenings. We enjoyed a small fire in the fire pit on which we made s'mores. The interior of the home is filled with antique treasures and lovely vignettes, pictures depicting the history of the home were also present. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes, cooking pots & pans, wine glasses etc. There was plenty of room for several people to work in the kitchen at the same time and we enjoyed making our meals at the house & having relaxed meals at our convenience. The home is rich in history yet has all the modern conveniences. The beds were soft & comfy & the sheets were high quality, loved the quilts on all the beds. The owners were extremely nice and even let the "kids" from 2 - 29 feed the longhorns, Petey & Lucky. There were 10-15 deer which came up every morning to the feeder and again in the evening. We enjoyed spending time in the rockers and porch swing on the front porch & listening to the sounds of nature. The train horns were present as indicated by previous posters but it did not bother us in the least, I can only remember hearing it once during the first night. We were less than 5 minutes to Gruene and all Gruene Hall, Grist Mill, General Store and the river (although when we were there the river wasn't flowing enough to "float the river" as planned). We enjoyed a day at the Schlitterbahn was was only 5 minutes away in the other direction. We would definitely stay here again... as a matter of fact I could move into the property and be perfectly happy there for the rest of my life! I know you & your family will enjoy the Rock St Retreat as much as we did!
Owner response:Thank you so much for your wonderful review. We love to hear comments from our guests and are especially pleased to hear that you enjoyed Rock Street so much during your stay. We look forward to accommodating you again soon. Many blessings, Sandy, Manager Danny & Annalisa, Owners Petey & Lucky, Longhorns : )

My husband and I just spent a wonderful Easter weekend at the Rock Street Retreat with our children, children in law and grandchild....and each and everyone of us had an absolutely wonderful time. There was not one single complaint, suggestion for improvement or disappointment. The pictures on this website are very enticing, but even they do not do the Retreat justice. It is even more than you can appreciate from the photos. Both houses are so very nice, absolutely immaculate, very well maintained and unbelievably clean. The beds are extremely comfortable...so much so that my husband and I were trying to figure out how we could duplicate them at home. There was plenty of room for all of us....a very safe, inviting backyard for my grandaughter to play in, my sons and sons in law to play football, horseshoes (provided), feed the longhorns, and for myself, my daughters and my daughter in law to read!!! There are so many sitting areas in the back yard if you want sun or if you want shade.....my husband even went the entire weekend without turning on his computer!! Someone in another review said everything was provided and it was still more than we could have imagined. We could have come with just our clothes and not needed a thing more....though, the ladies did have fun shopping in town. We felt as though we were miles away from everyone, but we felt very safe and secure....and the owners and property manager checked to see if there was anything we needed!! The only problem is that we took so many pictures which we proudly shared.....now everyone, we showed them to, wants to spend time there!
Owner response:We are especially pleased to have accommodated such wonderful guests. Your gracious review is so appreciated. We look forward to accommodating your next New Braunfels vacation. : )

My group of three couples stayed a week in May 09, as a base for biking the Hill Country. The place is beautiful. A 150 year old home, perfectly upkept, decorated with antiques, and with all modernities added, sits on a large lot shaded by huge 200 year old oaks. The landscaped grounds with lush grass include several seating areas, a fire-pit, cook shack with Texas flag roof, horseshoe pit, hammock, and more. Close to town, it's still quiet enough that deer feed every morning and evening on the property's edge. The website photos don't really convey the scale of the grounds. Plenty of space, lots of shade. Guadalupe River Tubing and Gruene Historic District for shopping, dining, and great live music is five minutes away. Great scenic drives/rides abound, with trips to Luckenbach, Fredericksburg, Bandera, and more making short pleasant day excursions. River Road, bordering the property's edge, is a popular scenic drive. A beautiful, charming vacation retreat. Will definitely return. Highly recommended.

The pictures are beautiful on the website, but after arriving, it was so much more! We felt as though we were staying in a relatives home. Very comfortable and relaxing. Loved watching the deer every morning while setting on the backyard swing and evenings having my little grandson count the lightning bugs (which you don't see in Houston). This will be a home that my family will return to. Thank you for the experience!

The house was perfect! Very family friendly. Our two kids loved feeding the cat and watching the deer. The ammenities were plentiful and not a single detail was left out. We have talked about our stay at the Rock Street Resort non stop since we have returned home. Hope to stay again soon!

...thought I had died and gone to heaven upon entering the house... The grounds are adorable. Love the history of the Gruene family and those who followed living in the home. Sami

Absolutely charming! This place has all you need to have a wonderful time. Beautifully decorated, lots of space, all kinds of amenities (books, dvds, games) and a huge backyard. My children and my nieces and nephews had a great time running around the house without us being worried as the property is fenced all around. We also rented the cottage and it is as cute and comfortable as the house. Hope to come back again.
Owner response:Thank you very much for your nice comments. I am glad that ya'll had a good time. Please come back. Blessings, Anna Lisa
