My husband and I stayed in this wonderful house for seven nights and loved every minute of it. The pictures were exactly right, but seeing the house, in person, was so much better. The first night we sat outside on the patio overlooking the Dordogne River with glasses of wine and congratulated ourselves for being so smart to choose this house. The Village of Beynac with its castle, church, and restaurants, was charming, and even though we were there at the end of October, still had much to offer. We toured the surrounding areas every day in our little car, visiting caves, bastides, fois gras wholesalers (yum), eating at wonderful restaurants and finding great wines - all within an hour's drive. This was a perfect place to use as our base - and with the fully equipped kitchen, we were able to tour all day and come home to make dinner from the great food we found at the markets and look forward to returning.

We've had a most wonderful and memorable Christmas Holiday here in your villa. It has been so refreshing and relaxing in your beautiful villa, the setting and views are breathtakingly beautiful. Upon awaking Christmas Eve morning what a delight it was to see the whole countryside blanketed in snow!!!!

The information you have provided is comprehensive and greatly appreciated as well as the professional approach that evidences your experience in these matters. That is not surprising considering your beautiful holdings in Beynac, yet nonetheless reassuring.

We enjoyed a wonderful week here in Beynac. Aside from enjoying the warm weather and exploring the beautiful villages, we also found some favourites to share - Les Jardins de Marquessac offered a nice walk and a great spot for lunch. A day with a very different feel was visiting Oradour-sur-Glane. It was just over a 2 hour drive but worth seeing to remember what happened in WW2. Thank you Xanthe and Hamish for a wonderful stay!

To Australians with 40,000 years of aboriginal history and 200 years of colonial history, this area fills the gap very interestingly. Great hous and location.

I am somewhat remiss in not posting this until now (stayed in Nov 2009). I lost track of where this delightful rental lived on the internet (located in TripAdvisor originally). If you're reading this review you've already decided to go to the Dordogne - a decision I can't endorse heartily enough. L'ancienne Post is absolutely everything as described - the pictures do not do it justice. We arrived at night and when we awoke the next morning the view across the river and fields was magnificent. We have stayed in self catering accommodations in the States and in Europe and this one was the best by far. Clean, well organized, convenient parking as Xanthe described (if your car is small enough!) and Beynac is a jewel of a little village. Also close to everything you need to see in the Dordogne (including ORIGINAL cave drawings at Font de Gaume). Breakfast each morning from one of the bakeries in town and your choice of restaraunts in Beynac or nearby towns for lunch and dinner. The house itself is a delight; my only warning would be there are lots of stairs to get to the uppermost bedroom. We had a group of 7 (5 adults and 2 older children) and there was plenty of room. Just writing this review makes me miss the place! If you want a beautiful, historic home in a small village setting in the Dordogne, don't look at another property!
Owner response:How lovely to hear that you still reminisce about this beautiful house in Beynac. We are so glad that you all enjoyed the experience of staying here. I think that what makes this house stand out from other self catering rentals, apart from the obvious wonderful location & Chateaux views, is that it was our family home for 6 years and was renovated with that in mind. Very best wishes, Xanthe & Hamish

Hi Xanthe and Hamish, Just to let you know that we arrived home back in the States safely -- and still happily thinking about our stay in Beynac and L'ancienne Poste. It was absolutely wonderful. We enjoyed the great views ("to die for" is an understatement) plus all the history and of course the charming small village flavor. We loved it and thank you so much for sharing it with us. We will be back -- if you'll have us. Best regards, Arnold Silverman

Review: We absolutely loved this house! Wonderful bedrooms, a great, first-class kitchen for cooking, sweeping views from every room - all set in the heart of the most beautiful medieval village in the Perigord Noir. The owners are fantastic - funny, warm and very accommodating with any questions you may have. Suggestions for things to do very close by: The Sunday market at St. Cyprien, visiting prehistoric caves near Les Eyzies, canoeing from Cenac to Beynac, visiting the amazing Chateau de Beynac, dinner in Sarlat...

Thanks again for a wonderful stay at L'ancienne Poste last week. We all had a great time in your beautiful house, and the views and Beynac really did live up to expectations. We visited Castelnaud and Sarlat, ate at the good restaurant in the village, got through rather a lot of duck and goose products, and had some great meals outside watching the balloons at sunset. And chilled out a lot by the pool, of course. The house was beautifully decorated, we loved the range in the kitchen and the great bathroom fittings, and appreciated the new towels and having the UK TV channels.
