The best place to stay in Taos! We loved our stay here.

A jewel smack in the middle of Taos. I found it a plus to rent from the owner. Once we sent our deposit a Priority Mail packet arrived, chock full of information that was very helpful for planning our vacation. It included maps as well as descriptions and numbers for many local businesses. When I had questions, Linda gave me valuable insider information. When we drove up, the walled property seemed unassuming. We opened the gate to the courtyard and we knew we were in for a treat: over a dozen vibrantly potted planters played against the adobe walls. As we entered Desert Oak, the same detail was everywhere, the tile work and the wood work was all custom. We were so comfortable we didn't want to leave our new home. My family could walk to everything: the farmer's market, galleries, museums, restaurants and shops. The home was central to all the hikes and bike rides we took. I am telling all my friends about Desert Oak and we can't wait to return.

Spent a wonderful week at Desert Oak enjoying the fabulous well appointed kitchen, hot tub and authentic adobe dwelling. We were greeted by a bottle of chardonnay and chips and salsa and a plethora of materials on what to do in Toas. The location to town is definitely a plus as we were able to walk to many places. We would defiantly stay at Desert Oak again.

What a great vacation! My family of 8 had all the room we needed to enjoy each other while based in an incredibly convenient location. We were able to walk just two blocks to the Historic Plaza when we weren't skiing @ Taos Ski Valley (less than 1/2 hour away!) The hot tub was immaculate and was roomy enough for 6 of to soothe ourselves before collapsing into the most comfortable and well appointed home! Walking to restaurants made it easy to drink without worry! When we couldn't bear to leave the comfy surroundings to ski we would break up the day by walking to galleries, shops and even (under my husbands' objections) local museums. Amazing how much to do in a place that we thought might have been just a ski house! In spite of my desire to truly be on vacation, I couldn't help but cook dinner (ONLY one night, though) in the kitchen as it was more well equipped than my own! Already booked for next year!

Desert Oak proved to be a wonderful place for us and our two grown sons and families to stay on a recent visit to Taos. We all appreciated the quiet street yet close proximity to the Plaza and Kit Carson Park (with swings and slides) so we could walk instead of the young children having to be put in car seats. But the house itself greatly enhanced our visit. Everyone was charmed by the lovely, rustic Southwest decor and appreciated the spacious and thoughtful floor-plan. The first thing the two- and three-year-olds did was to explore all the rooms! The living and dining rooms accomodated all seven of us comfortably, and the kitchen was nicely arranged and very well-equipped. We found the front courtyard big enough for the children to play catch in, giving them some extra outdoor time, and they loved the hot tub as much as the grownups. The owner was very helpful to give recommendations for restaurants and things to do and see. Some of our family wanted to hike, and we found some trails (maps from Carson Nat'l Forest Supervisor's Office) within a ten-minute drive. For a casual kid-friendly lunch one day we enjoyed Michael's Kitchen just a block or two away, which had enough New Mexican choices to keep everyone happy. If we have a chance, we would definitely stay here again. The great house made our stay a special one.

We have been renting this property every summer for a one week girls' vacation for several years now. Upon arrival a vase of beautiful fresh roses await us. Every room in the house is meticulously clean and supplied with the basic necessities. The owner has supplied an array of information regarding restaurants, shopping, hiking, etc. And, she will graciously accommodate us with any additional information we request from her. The house is located on a quiet street in a quiet neighborhood but an easy walk to restaurants, galleries, shops & the plaza square. After a long day of adventure, we will often just cozy up for the evening at home, cook dinner, sip wine and watch TV or a DVD movie or listen to music. In the morning, we begin our day sitting outside in the private courtyard sipping hot coffee and listening to bird song or watching for the arrival of the hummingbirds. The owner always has pots of vividly colored flowering plants in both the front & back courtyards. I would definitely recommend this property to friends and family. We look forward to coming back every summer.
