Our family stayed at Ursa Manor this past February 2011. Every good thing you've read about this home is true. It's warm and comfortable. Karen is very easy to work with as is the property manager. We didn't see any bears this time but hope to the next time we stay. The wildlife there is amazing. After seeing all of the deer the first night, we went to Fred's General Store the next day and bought a bag of corn. My husband and son put some corn out after a day of skiing and we had over 20 deer right outside the house that night. By the end of the week they came as soon as we shook the bag! We also saw foxes and the cutest red squirrel with a stubby tail that we named Stumpy. Our son had never seen snow before so imagine our surprise when we could sled right there at the house. The skiing was good in Beech. Everyone is super helpful. The living room with the fireplace was so welcoming and we were able to spend quality time together in the evening just talking and playing games. I highly recommend this tranquil retreat that will make you want to go back. We are!

We have visited this cabin on several occasions and have always discovered new things to do. The location is beautiful, quiet and soooo relaxing. There we so many Deer just outside the window; 3 to 5 at a time just walking around. They were beautiful! The cabin is so cozy with the Bear decor and the roaring fires kept us curled up on the couch while we played games and enjoyed long conversations with friends. The kitchen is well equipped...we even prepared Steak Au Pouive! We didn't ski this trip but the hiking was great and the views are so breathtaking! Do yourself and your family a favor and visit this creekside cabin...the memories will last a lifetime.

Three Generation Getaway

Guest: Jay-Birds (Georgia)
Date of Stay: 06/11/10 Review Submitted: 06/16/10

Ursa Manor provides a very comfortable, workable setting for a three-generation vacation. We recently treated our son, daughter-in-law, and two grandchildren, ages 6 and 3 to their first mountain experience.( a four-day "School's Out" long weekend.) The young people slept downstairs in the master bedroom and children's twin bedroom and we (age 60-something) grandparents slept upstairs, away from the chaos. We had our own small, but perfectly adequate bathroom, bedroom, and loft-area to ourselves. The children thoroughly enjoyed hiking the trails, seeing deer, and swimming in the lovely Beech Mountain Club pool. As far as excursions, we visited Grandfather Mountain, where we walked the swinging bridge, had a picnic, and toured the wildlife center. The next day we explored Linville Cavern, which was perfect for the children. It's not the biggest, but they were duly impressed and had a great time. From there we drove the Blue Ridge Parkway (on its 75th anniversary, 2010) to Blowing Rock and had a delightful brunch at the Blowing Rock Cafe. (fabulous versions of eggs Benedict) Lots of cute shops. Jackalopes View got mixed reviews (daughter-in-law had a delicious chicken dish and son had a dreadful steak) but we all enjoyed our special "last night" dinner at the Alpen House. Waitstaff could not have been nicer and and the trout was wonderful. Vegetables especially delicious. They prepared a grilled cheese sandwich especially for our 3 year-old grandson. Pricier, but well worth it . . plus, we didn't have to leave the mountain. Would love to spend a Thanksgiving Weekend here some day.

Karin & Albie went above and beyond to make this a great vacation for us. We loved the cabin, and felt like it was in the best location possible - so close to the pool for our son, a quick drive to the store and dinner options, close to hiking trails and Lake Coffey. Wonderful location, and I felt like it was a safe area for my little one (no monster drop off cliff). The house was perfect for our family, and our son loved exploring it with all the little bears nestled everywhere! Great time, thanks for your hospitality. We'd love to come back someday.

We had such a relaxing experience - loved the cabin. The bed was comfortable and the scenery was incredible. We especially enjoyed building a fire in the fireplace and a SNOWY day! We watched folks ski and we will do that next time. We want to come back in the summertime to use the beautiful facilities at the rec center. The cabin would be perfect to bring the rest of our kids or another couple. Spacious kitchen / dining and living area. Thanks so much. It was beautiful and clean. Definitely recommend this cabin!

I must say this was an amazing experience!!!!! A fabulous way to welcome 2007!!!! We had a wonderful time with all the activities available for the entire family. The cabin had everything you will need and more : ) Beautifully decorated and a spectacular location, 5 minutes from SKI BEECH. It snowed the day before our arrival and the children had a ball sledding right across the street. Our family is very grateful for such a warm welcome in your SPECTACULAR home..... Thanks again Karin and Albie : )

A visit to Albie's Ursa Manor is an exhilarating experience given the perfectly secluded environment, the beautiful mountainside and forested area with running bedroomside creek. The planked wooden foors, huge two story granite fireplace, very large windows and comfortable furnishings make the manor extrordinary. And all of this close to the Blue Ridge Parkway with countless awe inspiring mountain vistas. There are many activities for children and adults alike including hiking, skiing, sight seeing, and so many more. Just check out the Beech Mountain web site. We strongly recommend Albie's and know you won't be disapointed

Though Gatlinburg Tennessee is just a couple hours away, it doesn't compare to the beauty or charm of Beech Mountain, NC. The cabin has all the modern conveniences of one's home. Beautiful wood floors, beams and walls throughout providing a comfy and relaxing environment. Everything you need for a weekly rental is provided. Each room even has its own heater/air-conditioner. This is no cabin, it's a home. The home is great, but the convenience is what makes this such an enjoyable vacation. Situated near the top of Beech Mountain, this creekside cabin is a 2 minute drive to the summit where you can choose from many activities and restaurants. Across the street is a hiking trail alongside a river with numerous rapids - very tranquil. There were ample trails of varying difficulty. We also enjoy tennis. A 5 minute walk will take you to the Beech Mountain Tennis Club, including a pool, clubhouse, and 12 pristine clay tennis courts. It's impossible not to enjoy the convenience and all that this rental has to offer. We cannot wait for out next visit.

This cabin was very relaxing. I loved the sound of the water when you slept. The kids found plenty of trails to hike on and things to explore. The house itself was very accomodating for our family. The kitchen family room area had just what we needed.Great porches to sit outside too.

This is a great rental for a couple or a family. We found it spacious, very comfortable and especially enjoyed the fireplace. The nature trail right outside the door was easy to walk, well marked and so peaceful. I have a picture on my screensaver from my favorite spot on the trail. Brings back happy memories each time I look at it. It was amazingly quiet yet close to good activities and restuarants. We look forward to coming back in 2007!

Albie's Ursa Manor is an outstanding retreat. The amenities were plentiful, and so many activities...from our daily walks following the creek down the mountain, to visiting the local businesses. Visiting Grandfather Mountain is a must...the panoramic views are spectacular, and my kids enjoyed feeding the black bears at the zoo. The bridge spanning the 1000 ft gorge will get anyone's heart beating. Albie's Ursa Manor has it all...I can't wait to return next Spring for a family re-union.

This cabin was a great family vacationing spot. It is conveniantly located near many neighboring attractions. We enjoyed being able to walk out the door and spend the whole day exploring the nature trails that surrounded these cabins. It truly felt like we were discovering new places and creating our own adventures. There was so much to do and see. Driving up the mountain was one of the most amazing sights. You could see down the entire side of the mountain and off into the distance. The cabin was especially cozy and inviting and made us feel right at home.

Whether your enjoyment is just relaxing around the cabin and enjoying the view outside the expansive windows into the woods, taking advantage of the hiking, skiing and breathtaking vistas or visiting the nearby towns with fabulous restaurants. The twelve hour drive is worth every minute. This cabin offers all the conveniences of home. Please care for the home as if it were yours so we all have the opportunity for continued enjoyment.
