Good weekend getaway

Guest: Jon (Hudsonville, MI)
Date of Stay: 03/16/12 Review Submitted: 03/19/12

Very nice clean house. Fit our group of 11 adults fairly comfortably. Only complaint was some of the beds were a little uncomfortable. Would definitely consider going to this house again. Could easily accomodate a couple of families for a vacation. Within about 15-20 minutes of anywhere in Traverse City area.

Perfect location to celebrate New Year's Eve.

Guest: The Baczkowski Family (Saline)
Date of Stay: 12/29/11 Review Submitted: 01/09/12

We could have not stayed at a better place for New Year's Eve. The house was roomy enough for the 8 adults and 7 kids (all 9 and under) we had with us. The walk-out basement was perfect for the kids (slumber party). They spent most of their time downstairs, while the adults were on the main floor. The kitchen had all the utensils we needed and bathrooms had plenty of towels. The lake was frozen, so we were able to do a lot of ice skating. There was a net in the garage that we used to play hockey with. The kids had fun checking out the fishing holes too. We also spent time skiing at Mt. Holiday (5 minutes away) and Crystal Mountain (45 minutes away). There is so much to do in Traverse City and the surrounding areas. The house was clean and all the beds were comfortable. Way better than staying at a hotel. We hope to stay here again and try the house out in the summer. Many thanks for sharing your home with us and we appreciate your hospitality!

Just wanted to say thank you for sharing your beautiful lakehouse. Our girls weekend was a lot of fun. The weather was absolutely perfect. Your lakehouse provided just what the name says - a hideway - from the hustle and bustle of Traverse. What a lovely place, so very peaceful, and yet, only about 10 minutes to Traverse City. We enjoyed some of the sights during the day - the wineries, shopping, the casino . During the evening, your home provided a place to sit back and play cards, put together a jigsaw puzzle, and the most fun of all - just gabbing by the firepit. All in all, it was a great weekend. The house was everything described in the listing - a beautiful home. There was plenty of room for everyone to spread out, the extra fridge in the garage came in handy, the large deck accommodated everyone and the lakeside firepit was a great place for evenings. Thank you again for sharing your home and for helping groups like ours make lasting memories

Another Great Reunion at the Hideway

Guest: RER (Marshall, MI)
Date of Stay: 07/23/11 Review Submitted: 07/29/11

This was the third year our family came together from Alabama, Ohio, Wisconsin and Michigan for a week at the High Lake Hideway, and we've made plans to return next year. That's the best evidence of how much we've enjoyed the house, the location, the lake and the efforts Tammy and Kurt make every year to make sure that everything's in great shape. The trampoline's a real hit, the lake is never busy so our jet ski gets a lot of use and the short drive into town makes it possible to enjoy things like the film festival, shopping, restaurants etc.

Great Place, Great Time

Guest: Derek (Traverse City MI)
Date of Stay: 04/28/11 Review Submitted: 05/04/11

Thank you for opening your home to us. The house is clean, well equipped and spacious- the perfect place to have my wife's surprise 30th birthday party. We live in the area but High Lake is just far enough out of town to feel like you've left but very close when you need something or want to get downtown. (For instance, we went on the Downtown Art Walk Friday evening but it only took us 10 minutes to get back to the house, perfect!) We had plenty of room for our out-of-town guests to stay and also to accomodate the locals when we had our birthday BBQ. The house is very clean, the bedrooms are comfortable and with 3 bathrooms there was never any waiting. The two parks (Kirkpatrick and Grace McDonald) that are within easy walking distance offer another great outdoor exercise experience with playground equipment, wooded walking trails and sport courts (Grace McDonald only). The unpredictable spring weather did not allow us to get in the lake and enjoy the paddleboat or kayaks but we had a great time. Thanks again Kurt and Tammy and you can expect to hear from us again.

Great Getaway for Large Group

Guest: Leah P (Freeland, MI)
Date of Stay: 02/11/11 Review Submitted: 03/05/11

Our family enjoyed a wonderful winter weekend at the High Lake Hideaway. We had a large group and very much appreciated all the space. There were plenty of beds, rooms, and bathrooms for our entire group. Additionally, it was so nice to be able to all eat meals together at the dining room table - it was also great for big group games. The home is very close to great cross-country skiing which we all enjoyed and is just a few minutes drive from Traverse City. I would highly recommend this home for anyway looking to rent for a large group in the Traverse City area. We hope to be back next year! Thanks to Kurt and Tammy for providing our family with a place where we created fun winter memories!

Owner response:The home is great for large groups and the location is wonderful.

We stayed with a large 3 generation group between Christmas and New Years. The property was well equpped and maintained. Love the extra large coffe pot! Even thought the snow had been heavy, the driveway and sidewalks were well cleared for our arrival. We'll keep this on our list for future events. You can trust the pictures and room descriptions - they represent the property well.

Labor Day Weekend Stay

Date of Stay: 09/02/10 Review Submitted: 09/17/10

Kurt and Tammy were wonderful to work with; one of the reasons we chose High Lake Hideaway was due to their friendly and welcoming manner. The home itself is everything you could want in a vacation getaway - well appointed kitchen, great large dining room table, several bathrooms (convenient when there are 10 women!) and tastefully decorated. The beds were comfortable, and the cleanup policy made it easy to evacuate. Even though the weather did not cooperate, we enjoyed our stay. If I am ever in the Traverse City area again, I will definetly stay here. Thanks, again, Kurt and Tammy, for sharing your lovely vacation home.

Owner response:So happy you enjoyed your stay even with all the rain! We would love to have you again when you are in the area.

Fourteen in Traverse City for six days

Guest: Suzi (Romeo, MI)
Date of Stay: 06/27/10 Review Submitted: 07/06/10

What a wonderful place for our family to stay. There were fourteen of us. Six adults, two near adults (15 & 17) and six children ranging in age from 4 to 9. The size of the home was perfect. The lake was quiet (except for us) and close enough to TC to make easy runs when supplies were needed, like fudge. The cousins loved being together for more than 2 or 3 days. We enjoyed the fishing with the youngest catching his first fish. He was so excited! The owners were more than accomodating. Our one, and only, complaint was the water (in the house). Thank you for sharing your place with us!

Owner response:We are so glad you and your family enjoyed the house! Thank you so much for staying with us and letting us know about the water problem. We will address it immediately! Please let us know if you are coming to the area again. Thank you, Kurt & Tammy

We enjoyed the High Lake Hideaway in the winter, as 4 different parts of our family gathered for a wedding over the New Years weekend. The accommodations were lovely and just as we had hoped. Kurt and Tammy even ordered up snow throughout our stay, but kept the driveway clear. We all would love to see the same sights in the summer season, and will definitely tap into Kurt and Tammy's home and hospitality when we do.

Our party of 10 had a wonderful time! The house is beautiful and a perfect gathering spot for family and friends. There was ample space for all to watch movies together, as well as quiet places for us to venture off individually with a good book. The lake is simply breathtaking. We caught several large mouth bass, and wrapped up our vacation with a fish fry on the last evening. Thanks to Kurt and Tammy for the welcome card and the bottle of local wine. And thanks to Kurt for checking in on us, and for helping us with the boat. Bowie/Kirkland/Willis/Foster Families

This place has it ALL. The home is huge, clean and has everything you could ever dream of. The lake is quiet & beautiful; sandy bottom beach, eagles diving for food, fish & turtles, and the paddleboat is fun. The fish proved elusive, but it didn't stop us from trying. Four deer grazed on the front lawn in the morning, and all the trees provided cool breezes on hot afternoons. We had 10 adults & 2 infants, and we had lots of room. Kurt & Tammy are generous people who shared their lovely home with us. It was by far one of our most relaxing, pleasant vacations. Thanks for allowing us to spend time in TC in such a lovely place. We hope to be back again.

Owner response:Thank you so much for all your awesome comments, you really made us feel good. We feel blessed to have guests like you and your family. It was a pleasure serving you. Thanks for leaving the house as good as you found it,most take good care of it, you left it the best of anyone. Sincerely, Kurt and Tammy

What a gorgeous home on a peaceful, beautiful lake surrounded by trees! It was very clean and well-maintained. The layout of the house allowed our group of 14 plenty of space. It was a short drive to grocery stores and downtown Traverse City. My sons enjoyed fishing off of the dock and were able to catch plenty of fish. We also enjoyed walking to the park to play on the playground or play basketball and had fun taking the paddle boat to the store across the lake. I would recommend this house to anyone! It was perfect!

Owner response:Thank you so much for your great comments! We are so glad that you enjoyed the house and the area, it is a very peaceful place. We hope that you will visit again. Kurt & Tammy

Our entire family enjoyed your beautiful property. The immaculate condition of every room was impressive; we enjoyed the views from the decks and the area down at the water. Our children and grandchildren especially enoyed the availability of a fire pit near the lake, where each night they built a log fire and enjoyed telling old family experiences and stories. The experience there celebrating our 60th Wedding Anniversary at the lake was something the whole family will remember for ever.

Our family has been enjoying family vacations for many years and we have stayed at many places in Michigan. This has been one of the most beautiful and user friendly places we have visited. The owners were so accomadating and helpful. One of the favorite activities of the grandchildren was the water trampoline and rowing across the lake to the well equiped party store. The lake and little beach was perfect for the little ones to enjoy and feel safe. Walks and runs around the lake was a daily activity for the adults as we were walking off all the great meals we cooked on the weber grill. I only hesitated to write this because we want to make sure we get our week next year.

Owner response:Thank you Del & Mary - we look forward to your visit in August 2009!

We traveled with four families and children and had plenty of room. Everything was clean and exactly as described. The location was closer to Traverse City than I had expected, but still had the "hide-away" feel. We found that everything we needed was provided which made for an even more comfortable stay. I would highly recommend this vacation home!

Thanks for the workable kitchen & utility room. We all enjoyed the roominess of this place. The children assigned the master suite to us and it's a great place to read while the others enjoyed the trampoline and swimming.
