Gorgeous property & beautiful house!

My husband and I spent 10/16 - 23 at this residence, along with our two border collies. We spent our days hiking Black and Moose (no moose, but saw a big black bear) Mountains, and Mount Cube in New Hampshire and Hunger Mountain (snow-covered and pure ice at the summit!) and Mount Pisgah (fabulous views) in Vermont. We chose this house for its central location with regards to the mountains we wished to hike. Although the house is privately located, it is close to I-91. We also wanted to be able to let our dogs safely out for exercise (yes, even with all the hiking, our dogs would still want to play). There were a few mornings we had either turkeys or deer in the fields. One night our dogs got to "talk" to the local coyotes. Not fun, as it was 3:30 AM and they all had much to say to one another for about an hour! The house is well-equipped in every way. The wood stove would warm up the rooms in minutes. My husband enjoyed the large screen TV (baseball playoffs); the satellite reception was excellent. We spent the only rainy day by reading and enjoying the warmth of the wood stove and the views (this was an exceptionally late autumn and many colorful leaves still remained on the trees). The rains cleared in the afternoon and we were able to walk some of the snowmobile trails. They seemed to go on and on. One note, we were unable to use either of our two cell phones, one with Verizon and one with ATT. We got a calling card to call home. Since we had been in Vermont to ski many times before, we had already done many of the touristy things years ago. We also cannot comment on local restaurants. Because we knew we would be hiking all day, therefore, tired at night, we brought up our own food (wonderful Indian food and soups) for dinner and just reheated. As mentioned in other reviews, the owner was quick and responsive to questions and Dan, the caretaker, was extremely friendly, informative and unobtrusive. All-in-all, we throroughly enjoyed our vacation and will consider returning to hike the many other mountains that remain. We will highly recommend this property to friends and family.

great family house

This was the second summer my three generation family vacationed at this Ryegate Corner house. Great location with plenty of room for us and our wonderful dogs. (They enjoyed the open space to run.) The house looks just like the photos, but what can't be photographed is the atmosphere that lends itself to a family gathering. Loved the fire pit for the perfect hot dogs and smores. The owner is great to work with. The caretaker Dan is terrific. Wells River, VT, and Woodsville, NH, are fine towns with some cute businesses. The Happy Hour in Woodsville is good local food. Did I mention the the wold turkeys that parade their families right off of the front deck? I can recommend this property and hope that we will be able to return next year again.

perfect

Delightful, clean, well-appointed cabin. The pictures do NOT do justice to the view from the deck and house. Driving up the first time we were pleasantly stunned by the location -- the house is situated on top of a rise, with panoramic 180-degree 10-20 mile views of the surrounding countryside. The house itself is located within a large 50+ acre spread, well off the main road but easily accessible -- complete privacy. The caretaker was very unobtrusive -- truly we would not have known he was there but for his car coming and going -- but very pleasant and helpful as well. This was a perfect vacation for us and I would recommend for anyone seeking a week of quiet, private "unplugging" from city life. The surrounding countryside is similarly stunning and unspoiled, and worth exploring, though you're about an hour from most of the "touristy" things to do (alpine skiing, Ben and Jerry's, etc.) so if that is your cup of tea Ryegate might not be the best location.

My family and my brother's family rented this property during February vacation and I must say we had a great time. The house has everything you may need during your stay and it was very clean. The caretaker, Dan,had the fire going for us when we arrived and was always available to answer any questions. Our families snowmobile and this property hooks directly onto the vast trail which was fantastic. The grounds and view are beautiful. We hope to return again in the future. I91, exit 17 about a 4 hour ride from New Haven.

My family rented the home in early September, 2007. Our experience was totally positive. The view is spectacular, the owner is a pleasure to deal with, and the onsite caretaker made us feel completely at home.

My family just spent Christmas week here and had a wonderful time! The house was cosy and warm (but with plenty of room for everyone), the view was incredible, and the owners and caretakers were very friendly and helpful. Have fun.
