Summary ------- Eight blocks from Sonoma's bucolic, ten-acre, downtown plaza sits Magnolia Farm, the town's oldest East Side home. After extensive and loving rehabilitation, this registered historic landmark is now available to rent for private use. Its size and proximity to town, wineries, and major metropolitan areas make it the perfect location to vacation. You are cordially invited to enjoy Magnolia Farm a relaxing wine country respite.
History ------- On their 1846 overland journey from St. Louis, pioneers John and Rebecca McCracken resisted the temptation of the new Hastings shortcut and avoided the fate of the group now known as The Donner Party. After purchasing land from General Mariano Vallejo, the McCrackens hand-built the original two-story salt box home known by Sonoma County as Magnolia Farm.
Sold back to General Vallejo who kept it for members of his extended family, the home has changed hands numerous times and undoubtedly witnessed much in its first century and a half. Other noteworthy owners include the Randolph Hearst Family, the Douglas Morton Family, the Otto Teller Family, and the Edward Lathan Family. |
