Oceanview is available to families only - it's an Abaconian-style beach house situated 150 feet from the Atlantic Ocean with miles of sandy white beach; it's just perfect to spend the day relaxing in the surf and sun. Guana is a relaxed, laid back village with friendly people and a wonderful atmosphere. It's a well kept secret. Many families have been coming to the island for 20-30 years and now bring their grandchildren. The children can run and play all day on the beach, right in front of the house. After a day of this beach, they will be nodding off at the supper table.

If you're planning a "Spring Break" with a few buddies, seek other accomodations; Oceanview is rented to families only.
Snorkel right in front of the house along the barrier reef that runs the length of the island or just relax at the waters edge. The island (with about 150 residents) provides for basic needs with a grocery store, boat rental/dive shop, and numerous good restaurants/beach grills. Our location provides splendid views and "just enough" accessibility with spectacular ocean sunrises. And, the ocean breeze gives wonderful relief from the heat (that's a real consideration - aside from the view - for an oceanfront vs. inland rental) MHH is only 50 min flight from Florida and a short regularly scheduled ferry ride over to the key.
If you're comparing Oceanview with a other rentals, those offered with private docks are located on the bayside. A dock would not last long on the ocean side. We're on the ocean side. There is a shared community dock 2 minutes walk on the bayside and a village dock (with much better shelter) both are free of charge. We're located 15 minutes walk from the village - either by the road or along the beach. It's an easy walk to island restaurants and the village.
The house was designed for the outstanding views of the ocean. In the lower bedroom (toward the East), you can watch the sun rise from bed, right over your toes. On some mornings, just before the sun breaks the horizon, the entire sky turns brilliant red over the ocean. There are two bedrooms upstairs and a half bath. The bed in the front upstairs bedroom has been built a little higher than normal so that you can see the ocean horizon line at eye level. The large window is strategically placed to give 180 degree view. If you're in charge of bedroom allocation, this is first choice. Downstairs there are two bedrooms, sunrise room with a queen bed and the other bedroom with two built-in single beds. Emphasis was put on the use of natural renewable materials in the construction of the house with cypress tongue and groove paneling, abaco pine and ceramic tile. The main level consists of a living room, dining area and kitchen. The kitchen is fully equipped (including a commercial blender), refrigerator, gas range/oven and small appliances. All you'll need to bring is food.
Albury's ferry will deliver you to the village wharf on Guana. From there, the caretaker will meet you and take you to the house. You may want to stop at the grocery store for some food and supplies. The village is very basic - one street right down the center along the bay, not wide enough for two golf carts to pass each other. You will find it to be a wonderful walk.
To find the grocery store, turn right off the village wharf. It is to the toward the end of the bay. It is well supplied and will easily provide for your needs during your stay. If you require special order items, inquire at the grocery store. They can order for you. If your family includes infant children, you would be well advised to check in advance regarding diapers. There are many interesting foods and spices at the store. For example, there is wonderful butter from New Zealand and island honey available. Local fruit is often for sale, including different types of bananas usually not seen in US markets. Cuban products are not restricted in the Bahamas. At the 'Fig Tree Liquor Store' you will find an amazing assortment of Bahamian Rum including coconut, banana, mango and pineapple They are very reasonably priced.
A one-week stay at Oceanview for two people is $1,500. There is a "special occasion rate" of $1,200 per week for honeymoons or returning guests celebrating their anniversaries. One week for up to six people is $1,900. There is a discount for stays in excess of two weeks. Special consideration is given if you're planning a family vacation with young children; send and email with the ages, genders and an outline of the expectations of the island and house. Please understand that requests are thoroughly screened; more are declined than accepted.
Oceanview and Guana are unique.
It is not a “Spring Break” destination. If you are looking for “Scandals at Montiego Bay,” this is not the place.
From Oceanview, it's an easy walk to the village or to Nippers – most importantly, you don't have the noise or intrusion associated with those inland or village locations. And, the ocean breeze provides for wonderful relief from the heat. That's a very real consideration (aside from the view) for an oceanfront vs. bayside / inland or village rental.
A 50% deposit is required to confirm a stay. Balance is due a minimum of 30 days prior to departure. Preferred weekly rental periods are Saturday arrival (after 3:00PM) and Saturday departure (by 10:00AM)

We (two couples) rented this house in February, 2006 for a week. We had a great time. The house is exactly as advertised. Very comfortable with a good kitchen. You need to do some shopping in Marsh Harbor before taking the ferry to Guana Cay. We swam and snorkeled every day (a shorty wet suit was welcome in February with water temps around 70). One day we rented a boat and went to Scotland Cay. Worth doing. The reef is very good there. We brought a telescope and set it up on the back deck to observe the southerly objects not visible from Virginia. Very, very nice (c.f. http://www.angelfire.com/stars2/bwolfe/). The sky was very dark as the house is about a mile from 'town' and there are very few people on the island to begin with. You need to rent a golf cart for transportation. I can recommend this as a wonderful spot to relax. No nightlife other than the beautiful sky.

A wonderful family vacation time we had at the Oceanview beachhouse – it can’t be fully put to words. It will not be forgotten. Awake with the red ocean sunrise, swim and dive all day, eat dinner with everyone so excited about the day, laughing and talking about amazing experiences. We played games with the kids after our food and dropped to sleep hearing the ocean waves. Wake up to do it all over again. The house fit our family perfect. Everything we expected and everything we needed. We came a long way - from Halmstad, Sweden. It was worth it. The time went to fast. Much thanks to Jim.

Steps from the beach, great diving right off the shore, a fantastic break for surfers on the next beach over, a 15 min stagger from Nippers.... privacy, quiet and the owner Jim is a great guy. It was everything we needed from winter in N.S.
