My family and I stayed at April's house and we felt like it was ours. No owners belongings hanging around or stuffed into closets. Though, we had everything that we needed. It was so comfortable. We felt safe walking around Bar Harbor even at night. It was nice to be able to walk to all of the nearby restaurants and walk just a short walk home. We come back every year at different times and we will always try and book early enough to get back into this lovely home of April's. This home was perfect for all of our needs. The location is the best!

Owner response: It was so nice of you to take the time to write a review for me. Let me know if I can do anything to make your next stay even more pleasurable. Thanks so much, April

Our family of 4 thoroughly enjoyed this Bar Harbor rental. The location was perfect in that it was very convenient to the downtown area, but still on a private street with very little traffic. The house was clean, well-maintained and comfortable. We did experience one minor issue (the bed broke), and it was addressed the next day. The three bedrooms were well appointed, and it was very nice to have 2 bathrooms. The master bath was surprisingly spacious. The second bathroom was handy, but the shower was so small we gave only one attempt at using it then switched the whole family over to the one in the master bath. The kitchen was spacious and well appointed. The sink was particularly impressive. We cooked three dinners while staying here, and had everything we needed for seafood/lobster and used the outdoor grill for steaks. Secure Wi-Fi was available, and greatly appreciated! The front porch was a convenient place to store our bikes when not in use. There was a driveway for off-street parking. The back yard served as a "buffer" but was too small for any family use. We had brought a badmitton set, but there was no possibility of setting it up. The owner went out of her way to help us prior to arriving with finding certain activities we were interested in. She was attentive in her e-mail communications. She was also prompt in returning our security deposit. Regarding activities, we recommend the sea kayaking with the National Park Sea Kayak tours, the Dive in Theater with Diver Ed, the Jordan Pond House for afternoon tea/pop-overs and dinner, and Parson's lobster for fresh lobster and seafood. The carriage paths and hiking trails are excellent, but be sure to take plenty of water.

Owner response: Thank you so much for that nice review. The "broke bed" was terribly embarrassing. It was not visible as you know. I talked to my crew and they said, "You actually had to lie down on it to feel that it was broken in the center of the bed. We don't lie down on the beds, so how would we have known?" They made a good point. I asked them to please do so in the future and they have been. I really appreciated that you brought that to my attention. I am always trying to improve my house and make it more comfortable so that my guest will have a pleasant experience. I'm so happy that you came to my house and I hope that you will come back soon. Thanks so much again, April

The house is an older home but very charming. It was very clean and neat. Everything that you needed was provided, no exceptions. The proximity to downtown Bar Harbor was fantastic. You did not have to worry about parking and everything was just a short walk away. I had been to Bar Harbor 3 times previously and camped but I will come back to this wonderful house and never camp again in this part of Maine. I would certainly recommend this vacation home to anyone.

Thank you so much for such wonderful accommodations during our stay in Bar Harbor (6/12/2010 - 6/19/2010). It was very clean, well stocked, spacious with very comfortable beds. The location was perfect, just a quick walk to the harbor, the shops, the restaurants, the beautiful shore path, and such easy access to the Park. We appreciate your taking such good care of us.

Upon arrival, we immediately felt right at home with the early style of the house. Everything was neat and orderly, well supplied, and requests/instructions from the owners were clear and well written. April is a pleasure to work with. The location was excellent, located on a quiet back street but within a short walk to just about any point of interest in town one could mention. Once we parked, we never used the car for four days until we started exploring Acadia. Restaurants we enjoyed were the West End Diner, Cafe My Way, Morning Glory Deli/bakery, Grumpy's on the dock ( best blueberry muffins) ,Miguel's, Rosalie's Pizza (we left two tokens for future guests-eight gets a free two topping pizza) and Jordans for breakfast. There are many other places that we wanted to try but ran out of time. In Acadia, we found Jordan House over priced and better quality would be found in town. Hiking in Acadia was AWESOME! Jordan Cliffs trail was not difficult but not for young children nor those who are out of shape. It should be an easy trek for the average hiker. It does require some very minor rock scaling so caution would be advised in the rain. The views on the way up were astounding. Should we return to Bar Harbor, hopefully soon, we would certainly look at staying at here a second time and would most definitely give high marks in recommending it to others.

As described and reiterated in previous reviews..this house is truly a gem in downtown Bar Harbor!!! I can count with one hand all the times we moved the car to run our basic errands. My kids loved the fact that we could walk right down to the ocean/bay and catch some breath taking views of the harbor on a daily basis. We would have loved to go kayaking however there were still remnants of Hurricane Bill present. We ended up renting bikes 1 block up from the home and biked the carriage roads in Acadia instead(definately highly recommend this!!!) The house is so unique, it was built in the 1920's and there is quite a lot of charm and character present. We would drive to the local lobstermans and buy lobster caught just that mornin!!! The owner has generously stocked the kitchen with spices, coffee of all varieties, and all sorts of pots and pans that you need not worry!! There are many dining options available even for those that don' eat seafood!! Some of our favorite places was the Thai place up the street..the drunken noodles were our favorite!!! And our favorite cafe was Opera Cafe..we actually lost count how many times we were there!!!! A big thanks to April!! We hope to return soon.

The house was perfect, location, location, location, short walk to the shore & town. The free shuttle was great, (stop was about four or five blocks from the house) put our five bikes on and explored Eagle Lake, Day Mountain, drove to Cadillac Mountain & hiked to summit (views were spectacular). Walked over to Bar Island, at trail's end took some great photos of Bar Harbor. We went out fishing on a party boat (Tiger Shark) caught over twenty mackerel, had them for lunch- delicious! We ate at a dozen or so restaurants and never were we disappointed. Looking forward to returning! Thanks April!

We arrived at April's downtown house with many family members all wanting to do some same things and some different things. We could not have picked a better place for all of our interests. Just a block off the main street running through downtown we could walk to shop, eat, or just catch the sites of the marina. So many challenging hiking trails and climbing, Acadia National Park is close by and so worth the trip. The downtown is incredible and has something for everyone. We appreciated the house we were in and the fact that it had everything we needed. Comfortable beds, nice bathrooms, clean house (without clutter as some have), large kitchen and comfortable living room. The street is quiet and safe. April, being an artist, occaisionally has original paintings of the home for you to purchase as a keepsake. Wonderful place to stay!

We had the wonderful opportunity to spend a week at April’s Bar Harbor Downtown House. What a memorable trip. Loved Bar Harbor and really got to experience everything since the “Downtown” house is really right downtown. So comfortable and close to everything, the sea, the post office, grocery store, wonderful downtown where there is easy access to food and great shopping. A very short walk to the whale watching boat (we saw a family of humpbacks come right up to our boat. I had no idea the puffins were so small, but I was excited to see them.). There is a free island shuttle bus, but we did not need it. April is also the owner of an internet café (Opera House), with easy, comfortable access to the rest of the world. (You have got to try her bagels and irresistible pastry made fresh daily) We ate at several eatery’s and all were great. I am a vegan, or pure vegetarian and there was the most wonderful vegan food at a Eden’s restaurant, also within walking distance, of course. I had several meals there, as well as takeouts. Aprils Downtown house has a full kitchen so we were able to keep our leftover foods and we even did occasional cooking. (I highly recommend the Bento box and the Fresh Maine Blueberry tarts- but everything was wonderful) The house was large enough to comfortably accommodate my mother, daughter and friends and the location allowed us to each go our own way and meet back at the house (thanks to cell phones, we always knew where everyone was). Prior to going, I had the idea that I would be renting a bike, but never needed it. But there is bike and kayak rentals if you want that. Mom and I skipped the mountain climbing that other members of our group were crazy enough to do, but the walks in any direction were amazing. April’s Bar Harbor Downtown house is a lovely older home that had all the amenities of home, but without the personal clutter that you often get when you rent a home. We were only able to stay a week, but would love to go for longer. There is so much to do and the “Downtown House” makes everything so accessible. Stay at April’s if you can, you won’t be disappointed. I can’t think of a better place to be. I can’t wait to go back…
