A PERFECT COUPLES RETREAT Framed by palm trees, the island of Maui stands in a great “aha” across the Alanuihaha channel. Mount Haleakala looms up to greet the morning riser. In the water below, the winter season brings the humpback whales to their ancestral birthing place. The whales and their calves frequently swim close to the shore; the males breach the water, leaping high in the air. With binoculars it is a wonderful sight to be seen from our deck.
