A PERFECT COUPLES RETREAT
Framed by palm trees, the island of Maui stands in a great “aha” across the Alanuihaha channel. Mount Haleakala looms up to greet the morning riser. In the water below, the winter season brings the humpback whales to their ancestral birthing place. The whales and their calves frequently swim close to the shore; the males breach the water, leaping high in the air. With binoculars it is a wonderful sight to be seen from our deck.
HAWI – A small country town with big beautiful views. A true paradise at the north end of the Big Island of Hawaii on the Kohala Coast; formerly the center of Kohala Sugar it is rich in history and culture. . Hawi is located a few miles from the birth place of King Kamehameha and Pololu Valley. Gourmet dining is close by at the award winning Bamboo Restaurant, the popular Kohala Coffee Mill features Kona coffee and island made Tropical Dreams ice cream. Unique shops and galleries abound in Hawi and nearby Kapaau.
An hour from Kailua-Kona and less than two hours to Hilo and the Volcano, Hawi is a perfect starting point for seeing the island. Day trips in any direction can lead to genuine discoveries around the island - you can find yourself at the historical site of the ancient Hawaiian village of Lapakahi, hiking into spectacular Polulu Valley or horseback riding in the Kohala mountains with breathtaking views everywhere you look. Within thirty minutes you can be at the best white sand beaches on the island enjoying surfing, snorkeling, scuba diving or a leisurely swim.
This is Hawaii at it's best, updated when necessary but where it's past has been preserved and honored.

Mahalo Susan and Peter. We felt like family at your "Hale with the Hidden View". The gift of aloha will return to the mainland with us. Hawi is truly a paradise.

Mahalo Peter and Susan for the lovely accomodations. I did not spend time here during the day as I was off making music and sight seeing but the evenings were lovely and peaceful. The morning daylight did bring vistas of lovely grounds and the ever changing ocean view from the lanai. Thank you.

Peter and Susan: What a beautiful and peaceful retreat! It was the perfect ending to an amazing trip. We are so happy we chose Hawi-we enjoyed the local shops and had wonderful dinners at Sushi Rock and Bamboo. We even got to experience the music of John Keawe...we are sad to go but know that the Big Island was the perfect choice for our honeymoon. There is so much to explore on the island and we did it all!! Thank you for your hospitality and the delicious banana bread. Mahalo--Amy & Neil

Susan and Peter, We absolutely loved staying in your studio while we were on the Big Island. The location was quiet and we enjoyed a nice view of Maui in the distance. It was also a good location for our traveling while on the north end of the island. We enjoyed seeing Mauna Kea, the Waipio Valley, the Pololu Valley as well as the zipline adventure. You two were perfect hosts for us and made our stay very comfortable. We were so glad we decided to stay with you instead of in Kona with all the traffic and tourists.

Dear Peter and Susan: Thanks so much for your hospitality. It is so peaceful here and the view is amazing. We accomplished our goal to drive every major road on the island and we loved returning to the peace of our room to relax for the next day's travels! Your place and your kindness made our vacation a completely wonderful experience. Thanks again. Chris and Janet

Dear Susan and Peter - Wow! I knew when we arrived here that we'd done the right thing by deliberately not staying in the resorts with the rest of the crowds. Peace, tranquility and subtleties of how Hawaii transitions from night time to morning brought us bliss we probably wouldn't have found if we were in a cramped hotel room. Your retreat is incredibly lovely and serene. We awoke to a plethora of bird calls - I can't wait to get my hands on a Hawaiian bird book! This is our first day of 10 in Hawaii and I have to say - its a great start. By the way, thanks for the recommendation for the Bamboo Restaurant. The food there is excellent. Thanks for a great stay! Brand and Dawn

Dear Peter and Susan: Thanks for the wonderful accomodations. We felt really at home here. We especially enjoyed the quiet and peace. We really did a lot of exploring the island with this home as our base. It was nice to have a cool retreat for the evenings. We swam with the turtles, saw millions of whales and foolishly got a little too close to the volcano and much, much more. We will tell our friends back in Washington about ya'll. Thanks again. Dear Susan and Peter: What a lovely setting for a most beautiful guest house and home. Your loving care was apparent from the perfect views, well appointed furniture, interesting artwork and abundant supplies both in bath and kitchen. We felt perfectly at home and rested after a long day of sight seeing. We enjoyed meeting you both and wish there was more time to get to know you both. Mahalo and ALoha Jennifer and Patrick

What a wonderful place you have dreamed up here. Carroll and I sit for hours on end in awe of the view beyond our lanai: an expansive landscape ever changing with the light (and rain) backed by an endless ocean of sapphire blue and cloud sculptures changing by the second...and on one clear day Haleakala immense and fantastical appears. You ought to sell theatre seats from here.
