Eco-friendly vacation cottages and country retreat overlook small lake in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, 15 miles NW of Charlottesville, 40 minutes from Jefferson's Monticello.
Our air-conditioned A-frame vacation cottage is perfect for a couple and small families. It will sleep up to 6 people. The fully equipped kitchenette has modern appliances including microwave. Living room with double futon, bedroom with queen size bed, sleeping loft with twin beds, full bath, and deck overlook lake. Linens and towels are included along with complimentary shade grown organic coffee and teas. Books and Games. TV/Dvd Player in A-Frame & #1 Cottage.( Bring your own DVD'S) No phone in individual cottages. Phone available in office for guest use. Rates include Free WI- FI available at our office for guest use.
Hiking trails meander through this beautiful, unique property of 129 acres with a lake and 2 other stocked fishing ponds. Canoe available for guest use. Mountain Bikes for Rent. Pets allowed. Montfair's rustic lodge is available for a variety of events from weddings to retreats and reunions.
We are approximately 40 min. from Monticello and Ashlawn. Both are well worth the drive! We are 30 min. from Charlottesville and the University of Virginia with its great campus, art museum, galleries, restaurants, historic downtown mall and Ivy Creek Natural Area. Access to the Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline Drive are only 20 min. from Montfair. We are also 30 min. from Waynesboro, The Va. Wildlife Center & the Frontier Culture Museum. 45 min. away, Rodes Farm Stable at Wintergreen Resort offers horseback riding lessons & trail rides.
Spend time getting to know our neighborhood. Crozet is just 15 min. away with the Famous Crozet Pizza (noted in the National Geographic Guide Book, 2 pick your own Orchards, public pool, the Crozet Great Value store has a natural food selection as well as local produce. White Hall Vineyard is just a half a mile up the road from us and there are many closeby Vineyards to visit.
The best Organic eggs are available from Innisfree Farm in Crozet. Ruby offers fresh range eggs from the Steppe Family Farm. Visit Innisfree Village Farm to experience beautiful local organic vegetable, herb and flower gardens just a mile up the road on Walnut Level Rd (call Innisfree to arrange a weekday tour). Gryffon’s Aerie at Mount Air Farm: 5 min. drive, offers Local farm tours weekdays, visit the animals and retail store: Sat. and Sun. from Noon to 5:00 p.m.
The Shenandoah National Park Entrance is only minutes away on Sugar Hollow Rd. and offers great hikes, swimming holes and fun rocks to play on for the whole family. Mint Spring Park offers lake swimming with white sandy beach and lifeguards on duty.
We have a small lake to swim ( this is rustic country pond swimming, no fancy white beach swim!) and canoe in and 2 other fishing ponds and hiking trails and lots of wildlife! Keep an eye open for Blue heron, black bear, and deer. The beaver often swim just across the bank at the lakes’ over flow and will some times swim up to the canoe. Organic Shade Grown Coffee is in the freezer. And please call with any questions or concerns, we are glad to help in any way.

We are so happy that we chose Montfair Resort Farm as the location for our wedding. Not only was the scenery beautiful and the space supremely adequate, but the staff was extremely helpful and anxious to make our special day perfect for us and our guests. The rustic lodge provided the perfect atmosphere for our rehearsal dinner and reception. There was plenty of room for tables and a buffet... and afterward we had lots of room for dancing and socializing.The children loved throwing rocks in the pond and playing outside. Meanwhile, many of our guests stayed in some of the cabins which they found very pleasant. They said that there was plenty of room and the enjoyed the serenity of the woods. Among the best attributes of a wedding at Montfair is being able to spend an entire weekend with our friends and family who had traveled so far to be there (we had guests come from France and Sweden in addition to across the US). It gave us a common place to meet up, relax and socialize. The location is also perfect with so many great attractions nearby - Shenandoah National Park & Monticello. The staff and Montfair really went out of their way to make sure our event went off perfectly. Even when we had a crisis, thinking that one of our vendors had forgotten our table clothes, the staff at Montfair quickly jumped into action and called the vendor and found what we were missing. It was really great that the staff knows the vendors in the area and could help coordinate the event. We really appreciated the Montfair staff taking a sincere interest in our event. We stayed in the Main House as our honeymoon suite and it turned out to be the perfect place for everyone to dress up for the wedding and it was very comfortable to stay in. We had the bridal party prepare in one bedroom and the groomsman prepare in the other bedroom. Perfect! The bedrooms and living areas were all very clean and tidy. The kitchen had everything we needed to prepare meals and drinks. Highly recommended! All together, we had a beautiful and supremely enjoyable wedding at Montfair. The people there are kind and very happy to help. We recommend Montfair to everyone and we've already talked about celebrating our anniversary there.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with young children, sightseeing.
