Pesciano Country House
Location: Todi - Pesciano (Perugia)
Pesciano di Todi is a little village on the top of a hill. Our country house is located on the sunny side of the hill, about 500 meters from the village, with no other buildings on sight nearby. It's a typical Umbrian old stone country house of about 250 square meters split on two floors. Recently restored as owners week-end country house, keeping the fascinating atmosphere of old times, the house is filled with country style furniture. The main entrance is from upstairs (from the big kitchen); from downstairs you have access to the green in front of the house and to the flower garden. All rooms are with at least two windows with view on the valley and on the garden.
Upstairs: two main bedrooms with queen bed and bathroom en-suite with shower, one stylish bedroom with queen bed and one with twin single with a third shared bathroom with shower; old style kitchen with dining table for up to 10 people and big, wood fireplace, one living room with sofas, armchairs and wood fireplace with TV, DVD, VCR, and satellite TV. Downstairs: one dining room with dining table for up to 12 people with wood/charcoal old style stove, one living room with sofas, armchairs, Hi-Fi set and wood fireplace one studio/library with queen sofa bed, one bathroom with indoor Jacuzzi mini-pool for up to four people; wifi dsl connection in all the area.
Outdoor: One hectare private park with oaks, cypresses, pine trees, olive and fruit trees, flower and vegetable garden, astonishing view on the valley and on the country around from the sunny side of the house, outdoor table, chairs, stair chairs and hammocks, very nice private swimming pool; the swimming pool is out of sight and its design fits perfectly with the style of the old country house and is ready to be used from June to September. Nearby the swimming pool, there is an old style wood oven where you will be cooking your pizzas, or roast your steaks on the portable BBQ. You can play with the bowling field, golf training net, and archery training set.
The car box is in a separate stone building.

Pesciano is located in the Umbria region, the 'green heart of Italy'. South from Florence, north from Rome, is Italy's heart, the geographic center of the country. And whether you are visiting for the first time, or are a veteran to the hearty province, Umbria never ceases to leave a traveller in awe. Remarkable for its lush hills and mountains, and wonderfully preserved medieval towns, a trip through the province can be one back through time.
A long way from either coast, what is to be enjoyed in Umbria is the rolling sea of green. Many of them cultivated, the undulating hills weave a tapestry over the expansive province creating a motley of patchy colors. The impressive slopes give way to an even more impressive cluster of medieval towns, among them, Perugia - Umbria's largest - Orvieto, Gubbio, Assisi, and Spoleto.
Bevagna is a walled 'valley town', with a history that stretches back before the 2nd Century. Umbertide is a busy town on the banks of the Tiber, where Etruscans and Umbrians used to barter. In Deruta, they continue the centuries old manufacture of elegant ceramiche and majolica.
The towns themselves are historical gems, but there is much to be seen exploring them all individually. Between art, architecture, hospitality, wine tasting, and festivals, travelers are often stuck trying to narrow down a selection!

We stayed 12 days in this beautiful property. What else can I say that this place is a little heaven on earth. Everything is available to be comfortable during your stay. We were with 9 people and each family had his privacy when needed. Domenico is a lovely caretaker and always available when needed. We enjoyed the great pool, the nice kitchen, the jaccuzzi, the lovely bedrooms. The kids were over the moon. I dear to say we didn't have a bad moment during our stay. Hopefully we will have the luxury to get back to this lovely place in Umbria.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with teenagers.

When we arrived at the Old Stone Country House in June we had been three days in Milano, three days in Venezia and a day traveling by train and rental car from there to Pesciano. But the fatigue washed away at the first sight of this incredible property. There were two families (four adults and three teens) in our party. I don't think any of us moved for the first three days we were there. The property is so varied and private that we could each have private space where we just chilled and could come together in the kitchen, dining room, pool, or picnic arbor for incredible meals, games, and family fun. In 3 days I was more relaxed than I have ever been in my life. Then we discovered how conveniently located we were for exploring. We took day-trips to wineries, Todi (don't miss eating at Pane e Vino!), Asissi and Rome. We had morning coffee and pastries at a nearby village. We even visited Domenico's farm (the caretaker) and bought olive oil to take home that was made from the trees growing on the property. We took long walks through some of the most beautiful countryside I've ever seen. My comment to friends was that we might not have been in paradise, but you could see the gates from our swing. The kids loved biking through the countryside, baking bread each morning in the outdoor pizza oven, archery, swimming, and eating. They even got into watching favorite movies and television shows in Italian! If there was boredom, it was a welcome interlude and not a burden. There was always a new adventure awaiting on the horizon. We will return at our first opportunity!Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1991
About the owner: We are a couple of retired persons living in Roma (Italy) since 1973 (after married), with no children but many nephews. I was born in Palermo (Sicily) where I graduated in Political Sciences; I've also studied History of Art's at Roma University. My husband was born in Milano where he took his master in Electronic Engineering; until 2001, before retiring, he has been working as CEO of a Hi-tech company; he owns a RYA Yacht-master Ocean COC and is currently cooperating as instructor with a Royal Yachting Association Sailing School based in Tuscany. We both like very much sailing (we have been sailing together around all the Med Sea for more than 30 years and crossed the Atlantic Ocean with our sailing boat) and traveling through Italy, Europe and around the World. When at home we like very much to spend our time down town (we live in our apartment near St. Peter's Cathedral) looking for what is happening in Roma (Art Exhibitions, Movies, Theatre, Concerts, but also new restaurants and good food, ...), listening to music (I'm fond of Brazilian music), reading, trying to understand what happens in Politics and ... gathering with our friends (old and new ones). We like also the country way of living and we spend almost every week end in our country house, when not away. I like cooking for my friends (especially when in my country house) and I think to be quite an expert in mediterranean cooking. I also like to be ' à la page' with fashion and to discover new shops and new styles: I'd like to be a perfect 'personal shopper' for my friends! I consider my self open minded, curious with people and basically willing to understand what happens around me.
Why the Owner Chose Todi:
We bought the house in 1991, while we were looking for an 'oasis' where to spend our week-ends relaxing with our friends and recharging our energies for the next heavy working week!
The house was looking perfect for that purpose and we spent a lot of time and ... money, to restore it , trying to preserve the 'unique' farmer's atmosphere who attracted us so much when we saw the house the first time.
I think we have done a nice job and we still like very much to stay there when we can do.
When my husband get retired from his job as we had more time for sailing and traveling, we decided to share the house with selected people, to maintain the house open also when we were away and also to earn some money to face the increasing maintenance costs.
We have chosen the house for two main reasons:
it was the kind of house we were looking for:
a typical Umbrian old style stone house, classified as relevant traditional building to be preserved by local authorities, with no close neighbors but only 500 m from the village and with enough land to grow a nice garden;
and we like very much the Umbrian region, being at only 90 minutes from Roma, but in the middle of the middle age and renaissance treasures of Central Italy: in a couple of hours you can go to Florence (Perugia, Assisi, Orvieto, Spoleto, Spello, etc... are in an hour range by car) or you can go to Roma by train in only one hour from Terni; Perugia airport is 60 km from the house; Roma-Fiumicino Airport is 150 Km from the house, but you can get there by train from Orte.
The Unique Benefits at this Chateau / Country House:
The location of our house is fantastic, looking to south and being full of sun every-time of the year.
We also like very much to stay there during the short winter days, gathering all together around the fireplaces, listening to some good music or looking at some old movie chosen from our rich movies collection or chatting in the mini jacuzzi pool.
To take care of the flower garden is my major activity when at the country.
Pruning the roses, cleaning the soil around, nourishing the flowers, taking care of the grass and enjoying the flowers beauty when flourishing: that's all about!
We have the privilege to grow all we need from our vegetables garden with the help of our key-holder who is in charge, with his wife, for the maintenance of the house.
All you can see from the house windows is a spectacular view of the bush all around the valley or a corner of our flower garden!
The swimming pool is a master piece conceived and built by my husband, surrounded by stone walls and flowers, to enjoy swimming in summer time, when the air is hot at noon and you look for fresh water to refresh in a very private space.
There is plenty of space outdoor where to stay for lunch and for dinner, under the shadow of an oak tree or under a perch.
Your limit will be only your creativity, to invent new ways of organizing your holidays time in Umbria or at home.
