- Minimum stay:Contact owner
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:No
- Wheel chair accessible:No
Located just minutes from some of the world's best surfing at Playa Negra and the broad beaches of Playa Junquillal, La Casa Margarita is situated in a 250-acre eco-community known as La Pura Jungla. With only 35 home sites in all, La Pura Jungla is an amazing refuge from the hustle and bustle of "everyday" life. And La Casa Margarita, a three-bedroom, two-bath luxury tree house, offers all the amenities of home in a relaxed jungle setting where howler monkeys and exotic birds are your neighbors, and yet you are close enough to all services - dining, shopping, activities and resorts - to make your stay EXACTLY what you want.
Built on a steel and concrete platform that puts it in the tree tops, Casa Margarita is two beautiful homes under a single roof, separated by a canopy walkway high over the jungle floor. The Guest House has two bedrooms and the Master Suite has one bedroom. You may either occupy the Guest House alone, or both Guest House and Master Suite.
La Casa Margarita is ideally located where the jungle meets the Pacific Ocean in Guanacaste, Costa Rica. It is less than ten miles from Tamarindo Beach, and just minutes from the new JW Marriott Resort at Hacienda Pinilla. It is less than five miles from Playa Negra or Playa Junquillal, and just over an hour's drive to Liberia International Airport. If you are coming from San Jose, you can either fly to Tamarindo or Liberia and drive/taxi from there, or you can drive from San Jose in about four hours.
La Casa Margarita is over 4000 square feet of jungle 'tree house' with amazing ocean views. The living and dining areas are open to the vistas below - no walls, you become part of the jungle as if you lived in the treetops. All the open living spaces have safety guard rails with bars, keeping kids - and adults - safe.
The Guest House features:
- Two spacious bedrooms with balconies, Queen beds and a pull-out trundle
- Tile and marble bathroom with towels provided
- Fully equipped kitchen with breakfast bar, granite countertops, and all new appliances
- Walk-in closet and numerous pantries and cabinets
- Laundry room with large capacity washer/dryer
- Huge Living/Dining room with dining table, chairs, sofa, coffee table, hammock
- Outdoor shower and toilet to wash off the sand before you come home
The Master Suite features:
- One large bedroom with King bed
- Master bath with double shower and treetop jungle views
- Kitchenette with Microwave, gas range top, fridge
- Open Living/Dining room with dining table, couch, chairs
All of our guests can enjoy the beautiful Costa Rican furniture from the master craftsmen in Sarchi. Our home was built and furnished 100% with local materials, labor, and furnishings of the very highest quality.

This was our sixth trip to Costa Rica. We first came for our honeymoon over 14 years ago and have property near Playa Hermosa to the south. Casa Margarita is a serene, beautiful place to stay. This trip we travelled with our two young children and my brother and sister in law. There was plenty of space for all of us. Having the two sections of the house was great for privacy, especially if you are travelling with more than one family. We had a great time going to the beach, surfing, eating at great restaurants, being entertained by the howler monkeys and watching the most beautiful sunsets. But, the most spectacular part of this trip was the house! It is like living in the rain forest. We would sit out on the deck and watch lightning storms roll across the ocean drinking mango margaritas! The rooms are very comfortable but my favorite part is the shower! It has all the comforts of home but in a magical location. Go visit and have the time of your life. Pura Vida!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

"I just feel like everyone tries to do something different, but you always wind up doing the same damn thing." - DiCaprio from the movie The Beach. This is impossible at Casa Margarita...providing open jungle living in an executive style tree house. Skip the resorts. Skip Mexico (makes you sick) and Hawaii (makes you sick of paying). Shop for groceries in the local store, meet the people, speak broken spanish, surf the best waves in the world. Drink $1.50 beers at Lola's on the beach. Get your 4x4, bring the bug spray, suntan lotion and some books and pick the road less traveled. Get there before the dirt roads become paved and the resorts come in!Did you find this review helpful? 1-2-2009 Our family of 5 spent a week at Casa Margarita and loved the beautiful setting and wonderful house. The teak floors are sensational under your feet and the house is as natural as the jungle setting: a concert of monkeys in the morning and wind and crickets at night. We loved the nearby Playa Negra beach, and hope to come back here some day and stay at Casa Margarita. We also thank Michael and Margaret for their invaluable help and for sharing their fabulous house with us.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

Michael, I would again like to thank you for allowing my family the opportunity to stay at Casa Margarita. It is pretty remarkable that you were able to put such a beautiful, sprawling home out in the middle of the jungle. Even though we had our surprises, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Casa Margarita to anyone who wanted a certain level of luxury while still enjoying the complete jungle experience. The family of Howler Monkeys kept us fascinated for at least a full hour one morning, the nighttime storms/lightning shows were gorgeous and the "ant" show was something I would have guessed I could only experience on the discovery channel...Now if they could only finish getting those roads paved...during the wet season, as you suggested, a 4X4 is a must if you want to drive around Guanacaste. Remember to contact us for dinner when you return to the good ol' IE!!!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Casa Margarita was an amazing place to stay. The house sits nestled in the jungle. The setting is serene and peaceful especially at sunset. Our family had so many adventures while staying at Casa Margarita. We enjoyed waking to monkeys, the beaches, surfing, deep sea fishing, nature hikes, and simply exploring. Everyone we met while staying in Costa Rica was very friendly. We would recommend Casa Margarita to anyone. We feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to experience it.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

Casa Margarita was a great getaway in a truly magical setting up in the jungle. We woke every day to monkeys and went to bed every night with millions of stars over our heads. The sunset views were spectacular. We loved cooking in the gourmet kitchen after morning surf sessions at the beach!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

This house was simply amazing. Our family of 5 stayed there very comfortably and had a fantastic vacation. The house has no A/C, but it stays so fresh and cool in the house due to it's unique design this really is the least of your worries, I had to cover myself at night! There are plenty of things to do, but the terrain to get there is rough at times. RENTING A SUV/JEEP/TRUCK 4x4 IS A MUST if you plan on getting around. We rented the Hyundai Terracan and it got us around without a problem. But they seem to be in the process of paving a lot of roads around there, and they seem to work pretty quick. The beaches there are beautiful, and the lifestyle in Costa Rica is just so relaxed and laid back. It was like nothing we've experienced before. We also did one of the Canopy Zip-Line Tours and that was great. Plus we went to a national park / volcano and got to see that as well. There's plenty of other things to do also, that's just the start of it! The wildlife around the house itself is...well...wild! A cute little family of Howler Monkeys seem to live in the treetops around the house and you see them in the mornings before they start moving. Surprisingly there were no mosquitoes, something we aren't used to coming from Florida. There were no other people for quite a distance either, off the balcony you can see a couple street lights very, very far away at night, but that's about it. And the star gazing there is amazing, some nights we would just turn off the lights and look out at the night. It was like being in a Planetarium! I would DEFINITELY recommend this house to anybody who plans on taking a vacation to Costa Rica. The pricing on the house is very cheap considering the house itself, where it's located, and the things it has that no other hotel or condo could offer. If your planning on going to Costa Rica, this is the house to stay at.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

My family and I just returned from a spring break trip to Costa Rica. Casa Margarita was a nature lover's paradise. Very secluded with tremendous sunsets, a varied of wildlife (i.e. monkeys, ardvarks (sp?), canaries, parrots, blue jays, and couple of things I do not know what to call and have never seen on Wild Kingdom or Discovery Channel.), and fabulous beaches. The restaraunts in the area were all good and some were even great. The prices were more than reasonable by US standards.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

Year Purchased: 2005
About the owner: Margarita and Michael have traveled extensively with their children, and currently reside in the California wine country. They have both worked in the high-tech world and are now raising an elementary-school age daughter. They all love to travel and spend as much time as possible at Casa Margarita.
Why the Owner Chose Playa Negra:
We fell in love with Costa Rica the first time we visited, back in 1994. On our second trip in 1995 we were introduced to Ray who owns the development (Pura Jungla) where we eventually built our dream home. We soon decided to purchase a two acre lot with stunning views of the Pacific. Several years later, in 2005 we began construction of Casa Margarita with the assistance of Ray, our dear late architect Edgar Cruz, and a wonderful team of contractors. The result wildly exceeded our expectations, and now we have a wonderful escape to share with all of you.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
We are located in an amazing 250 acre eco-preserve filled with nature's bounty. Rare trees, exotic birds, howler monkey families and iguanas are our neighbors in paradise. We are just five minutes from dining, surfing, ocean beaches and more, and over the years we have developed friendships with many neighbors and business owners. It truly has become our second home.
We love to ride down the road and have everyone call out to our daughter as we pass - she feels like Casa Margarita is her personal tree house - and in a way it is.
We love to sit in the kitchen having breakfast and watch the monkeys come by on their way to feeding - I don't know who is more curious, us or them.
