I wanted to take a moment to say we really enjoyed this darling cottage. We found the seclusion and quiet to be perfect and even though the trade winds were howling, we got some snorkel time in off the house. Lovely place to stay. We hope to come back again!

We can't say enough wonderful things about our stay in Puako and this lovely cottage. We stayed for our honeymoon in Oct. 2008. The location is perfect for exploring the Kona coast. We particularly enjoyed eating breakfast on the lanai and having a drink on the sea wall at sunset. Tons of turtles to watch too! We would gladly stay again!

Before coming to Hale Malia, we stayed in many places on the Big Island, Maui & Kauai. Since our first visit in 2007 we now return always to this very special place because we love it so. Peaceful, beautiful, rich with color and swimming with life, it is my favorite place in the world. I leave renewed and grateful for the aloha bestowed on me by place and people.

Wow! This house is such an awesome getaway. It is so relaxing laying in the hammock watching the sunset or reading a book. Each morning another adventure snorkeling with the sea turtles that are there every day sunning themselves or swimming.Make sure to stock up the refrigerator because you won't want to leave. It was so hard when the time came to go, it truly was a dream come true, one filled with treasured memories. As you would expect we highly recommend this home.

Dear Kirsi, Your house on Puako beach was simply delightful, thank you. Peaceful, serene, and postcard scenic. There is no finer lanai on which to enjoy ones Kona coffee and papaya in the morning, wine and pupus at sunset. The water access 2 houses south was flat calm for us, allowing quick and easy snorkeling access to the reefs which were thick with colorful fish and turtles. Hot insider tip for your guests: The Waikoloa market 5 miles up Waikoloa road is just 10 minutes from the house. It has a good selection of wine, local coffees, produce, high quality groceries, and hands down the best Ahi Sesame Poke on the Kona coast. We look forward to staying there again! We stayed September 2007 and had one of our best Hawaii vacations ever. We go every year and stay at a different locations, Hotels, Condos, or homes. Snorkeling every day in front of the house at one of the best reefs in the world was the best. We talk about it all the time and tell everyone they need to go here!! Sherri

My Husband and I stayed here for 5 nights in March 2007. Had a blast!!! Love the cottage. It was unpretensious and exactly what we were looking for. There was only my husband and I so it wasn't crowded. It was so nice to be able to watch the sun set every night while enjoying a glass of wine and grilling steaks. We did not even eat out at all since the view from the cottage was so spectacular. This isn't a fancy place, if that is what you are looking for. But it was extremely clean and well stocked with towels and lineans. The Kitchen had everything we needed. Great snorkling at one of the beach accesses which was approximately a mile down from the house. Tried to snorkle behind the house but the surf was either too rough and or when I did snorkle there wasn't much to see. Go to the beach access down the road. Great fish, octopus and turtles. My husband saw five turtles a one time while he was snorkling and they tend to come up there in the evening. Saw lots of action re: humpback whales. Mother and Baby playing and a couple of breeches. But bring a good pair of bincolars because they are a little ways out. Overall great retreat. My husband actually said enjoyed it and that I did a good job finding it. I think He even liked it better then the Ritz Carolton on Maui. I think you would love it as well unless you are looking luxury and for someone to wait on you hand and foot. NOt us. Relaxing and a wonderful time.
Owner response:There is great snorkeling from a beach access only 20 yards south from the house. High surf would make it more challenging to get into the water, but during calmer waters, especially early morning, it is fabulous and there is plenty to see if you go far enough out to the drop-off. In fact this is a place where snorkel and scuba tours bring their guests!

We had a wonderful time at this quaint cottage which is only a few steps to the water. Every morning we would wake up looking at the ocean, make our coffee, sit out on the lanai, and just stare at the view. We snorkeled in front of the house and the entire cove every day. My husband who has snorkeled in may parts of the world said it is one of the best underwater esperiences he has ever had. It was calm and sunny almost every day. We felt like we were on an oasis it was quiet. No crowds from tourists yet we were only a short drive to local restaurants and shopping. Just beware of the local bugs... they live in Paradise too!!
Owner response:Thank you very much for taking the time during your holiday to write these comments- they will be most appreciated by any interested guest trying to decide whether this is the right place for them.
