Come and visit our loft efficiency unit in the small private wooded community of Pendletonheim in Davis. Pendletonheim is conveniently located next to Blackwater Falls State Park, cross-country skiing, biking, hiking trails, shops and restaurants.
Our unit is a one story efficiency with a loft. On the first floor there is a living room area that offers a sleep sofa. In the kitchen/dining area there is an efficiency style refrigerator, stove, and sink. The bathroom is also located on the first floor. The sleeping area, which has a queen size bed, is located in the loft and accessible by ladder.
While you are visiting with us please take the opportunity to explore all that our area has to offer. Blackwater Falls State Park is named for the falls of the Blackwater River whose amber-colored waters plunge five stories (63 feet) then twist and tumble through an eight-mile long gorge. The "black" water is a result of tannic acid from fallen hemlock and red spruce needles. The falls are one of the most photographed sites in West Virginia.
Another place to visit is the Blackwater Canyon. The Blackwater’s lush forest is comparable to no other. The rugged and wild canyon ranges from 400 to 1,400 feet in depth. You can get glimpses of it from the Blackwater Falls State Park particularly from the Table Rock overlook in the park or the Lindy Point overlook just outside the park. It's tantalizing but seemingly out of reach without a steep, steep hike on a handful of trails. There are two ways to see the canyon as it is now. Try the Blackwater Canyon Rail-Trail or the nearby Blackwater Canyon Rim Trail.
Both trails lie on the north side of the river and across the heavily wooded canyon from the 1,700-acre state park. You can reach both trails near the hamlet of Douglas. It is southwest of Thomas in Tucker County at the edge of the sprawling Monongahela National Forest.
The rail-trail, known locally as the Blackwater Canyon rail grade, stretches 10.2 miles from Thomas west through Coketon and Douglas into the heart of the Blackwater Canyon. It extends to Hendricks on the west.
It drops nearly 1,300 feet in elevation between Thomas and Hendricks. That's a steep drop and makes for a great downhill mountain bicycle run in that direction. |
