Keiki Beach Hale-Excellent

Guest: Winter Weary Alaskan (Alaska)
Date of Stay: 01/29/11 Review Submitted: 02/12/11

We had an absolutely wonderful time at the Keiki Beach House. It was a fabulous beach house and the convenience to Kona activities was perfect for us. The house was welcoming and we really appreciated all the little conveniences provided, such as beach towels and boogie boards which allowed us to start our vacation immediately. Also, thanks for the tip that the walking trail at the old airport was nearby, we walked there every morning. Hope to stay with you again someday!

Owner response:Mahalo for sharing with others on your holiday. Keiki Beach Hale is located in the Kona Bay Estates which is a gated ocean front community with 24 hr. guard, and so close to Kona village you can walk there in a few minutes. Across the quite private road is the Keiki Beach lagoon. Perfect for everyone to swim in. There is also a state , and county park adjoining us . Where there is open space to walk the ocean , a jogging trail, tennis courts, and horse shoe pits, and more fun, Our home is well appointed for you fabulous holiday . Beach chairs, cooler, towels, pool table, piano, cooking items for all the chefs and more. If you need something just let us know. Hope to see you soon. Aloha

Love This Place

Guest: Joe (Hudson, WI)
Date of Stay: 11/27/10 Review Submitted: 02/01/11

The location is perfect--a very short walk and you're on the beach, by the keikei pond, which is the perfect place for kids to frolic, learn how to swim and snorkle, etc. Also the perfect hangout to watch the sunset, or just relax. The house itself is wonderful, with enough room to accomodate many more people than we were. Enjoyed a lot of pool (billiards) on the rear lanai, and just relaxing in the backyard. The kids used the pool a lot, when they weren't heading over to the keikei pond. Especially loved the front lanai off the kitchen/dining area. Very private and quiet neighborhood full of beautiful homes, an easy commute from downtown Kona (a few minutes by car). We saw many whales blowing and breaching when we were there, and the weather was great. The Kona area seems quite stable, weather wise, with clear and dry conditions most of the time. An all around great house, neighborhood and region. Our vacation was one of the best we've ever had.

HEAVENLY! AMAZING, LUXURY, I GIVE IT A 10 FOR SURE

Our family stayed at this amazing home for my daughters wedding in November. We all loved it. I think we liked it as much as the island itself, we went out to dinner 2xs because we had so much fun cooking in the wonderful kitchen and the lanai was our favorite for the morning coffee. We were up at the crack of dawn to see the sun rise and walk the amazing keiki beach which was just across the street We would watch the sunset every night and sit on the bluff. It is a perfect home for family friends and kidsThe backyard was beautiful with flowers and a few geckos (kids loved them) Again the house was to say the least, impeccable everything we needed was provided for us just as stated. i would highly recommend this property to anyone with family/friends it was perfect and can't wait to go back soon. It's freezing here in California! Thank you.

Beautiful Kona Vacation Home

Guest: Love the Islands (Cotati, Ca )
Date of Stay: 10/31/10 Review Submitted: 12/07/10

This is a great rental vacation home. We were there for a wedding of my best friend's daughter. The bride & groom had the master bedroom with the great bathroom. The other three bedrooms are nice size with king size beds. We never used the air cond. The fans were all we needed. The big TV down stairs was a great place to watch our San Francisco Giants win the World Series. My favorite place was the 2nd floor lanai. We sat out there every morning and late in the evening. The beach across the street is very nice and we walked the rock wall there every morning. The neighbors were very friendly, some live there year round. As far as the last comments from the people who stayed in early Oct 2010, I found the ball field in the back of the house not a problem. It was nice to see that the local kids have a place to play sports and it did not bother us at all. The house is worth every penny we spent. It is in a great gated community location, close to the airport and town. Costco and Target are not too far from the house. The Kona Brewery and Fish Hopper have great food. We would rent this house again when we go back to the big Island.

Beautiful Kona Oceanview Rental

Guest: Hawaiian Bliss (Orange County, California)
Date of Stay: 11/10/10 Review Submitted: 11/17/10

This place is an excellent vacation property. My well traveled family and I have visited the Hawaiian Islands a number of times and this place measures up with anything we have experienced. A friend traveling from Asia accompanied us and was very impressed with the property also. The location is incredibly convenient to town and the beach and the home is very well maintained. The house stayed cool, the neighborhood is quiet and the park behind the property is alot of fun for the kids. The security at the gate was very helpful and friendly. We will definietly return.

Wonderful Kona Vacation

Guest: aloha dean (portland, oregon)
Date of Stay: 11/10/10 Review Submitted: 11/15/10

We came from the standard damp and dreary winter weather common to Portland Oregon during this time of year. Kona is truly one of the proverbial earthly paradice's. Our accomadations at the Keiki house was an enjoyable luxury; house beautiful, location to a magnifcant cove a few steps away, friendly neighbors, and a wonderful park next door to keep the kids engaged when not in town or at the beach. The house is a lovely mini-hotel that is excellent for large groups such as ours or for those who want lots of private or open space, whatever the desire. The managers, Gerry and Mary Lou, took care of all our needs and issues. They know all the places to go and things you might want to see or do. Personally, a ten day stay at this place can keep you occupied within walking distance. even the Luau.

Owner response:Thank You, Mary Lou Manager

Prime budget spot for those w/ kids, NOT "luxury."

Guest: Expat Family (Singapore)
Date of Stay: 09/30/10 Review Submitted: 10/21/10

Our family of five, with a 2 and 6 year old, just returned from a week (early October) at "Keiki Beach House." Pluses: LOCATION: True to description, the location is great - about 50 steps from Keiki Beach - with resident sea turtle - which is perfect not just for young families but for adults as well. In a small gated community about 3 minutes by car or bike from Alii Drive and numerous shops. A great, large natural foods market and used book shop are minutes away not to mention a Target, Long's, etc. SPACE: There certainly is a lot of space to store bags, etc. You won't be tripping over bags. VALUE: Especially for larger groups, the house is a good balance of location and space for non-discerning groups at a reasonable price. MINUSES: DESIGN: Certainly "to each their own" however, if a property is described as "luxury" it should offer some qualities thereof, this house does not. All we could imagine is that the owner's designed and built the property as they went along. True, you are about 50 feet from the Pacific Ocean with numerous view possibilities, however, you'd never know you were in Hawaii (or near a beach) by looking out most of the windows of the house. They all point in the opposite direction from the potential vistas. (Inexplicably, the prime upstairs location that could look towards the azure sea is am enormous walk-in closet.) Instead, most of the large windows view a community park that borders the property. If you like to hear baseball games, football practice and lawnmowers all day and night, perfect! (That said, our young kids enjoyed the playground there.) NOISE: This is not a peaceful, quiet setting. Besides the park, there is a busy road nearby and the biggest challenge is the very close proximity to the two houses next-door. The "back house" on the lot next door is just feet from Keiki Beach House and the resident has the TV blaring all day (at least from 5am - literally - til 9-10pm daily) Oh yeah, like cigarette smoke? Good, it will drift in all day. (We didn't complain about this when there as it is their property.) DESIGN: House is very warm due to poor circulation. All bedrooms have low shag carpet, few well-placed windows and retain heat. Want air-con? Sure - add a "top up" per night which you will learn upon arrival. Other floors (inside) are all outdoor slate and the stairs are very steep and sharp. Bring slippers and watch young kids. All appliances and fixtures are basic. GREAT PLACE for budget groups.

Owner response:Owners answer: The home is 5,000 square feet with stone floors, custom furniture, teak dining set for eight, walk in huge shower, bathroom (four hundred square feet Approx) two refrigerators, mini kitchen downstairs and high quality carpet in 3 bedrooms and only one bedroom has shag which is being replaced. I call this luxury. There is no road noise as posted. There is a one lane private road for access to 40 homes, used only by home owners only. The rates for ocean view/ocean front homes in subdivion are 50% higher than the subject home. If the commentor wanted ocean front he could have rented other homes. Our web site does not say ocean front and our prices are kept low by making A/C optional. Most people don't need A/C. Electricity is outrageously high in Hawaii, therefore we must conserve. It is posted as optional on VRBO.

Guestbook Comment

Guest: llaney (California)
Date of Stay: 02/01/09 Review Submitted: 02/12/09

We stayed here during Thanksgiving week 2008. Believe it or not, the photos do not show how fabulous this house is! The bedrooms are large, the bathrooms are on every floor and the lanais all offer wonderful places to sit and relax. Ceiling fans kept the house cool during the day, and the breezes at night, along with the sounds of the ocean, helped us all sleep soundly! Our group of 10 enjoyed the pool table, the swimming pool and the bbq grill. The laundry room was handy, and there are an abundance of bath towels and beach towels to use. The house was large enough to accomodate all of us and still afford privacy when needed. Everyone took turns using the "super shower" in the Master Suite. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes, glassware, utensils and cooking equipment. There is a pantry in the kitchen with plenty of storage space for food. Two coffee pots were perfect for the decaf and regular caf drinkers. The refrigerator downstairs was perfect for holding water, sodas, juices, and other beverages, plus it was ideal for a cocktail prep area. In addition to using all the bedrooms, one person slept on the futon in the Media Room downstairs, one slept on the futon in the office, and the teenager slept on the couch in the lanai next to the breakfast nook, and everyone said they were comfortable and had plenty of room for their "stuff." All the bedrooms had large closets and/or wardrobes and dressers. All had TVs, altho I think the TVs were rarely used. The wireless internet connection worked in the office, the bedrooms and in the Great Room! There is a stereo sound system in the office closet that delivers music throughout the common areas of the house, so be sure to find a local radio station or play an "IZ" CD when you are home. Large chain grocery stores (Safeway, Costco) and small ones (Sak 'n Save and one that starts with K?) are nearby, as are Long's drugstore, the US Post Office and several ABC stores. The next door neighbors (in the house on the back of the lot) are nice, friendly and helpful. Keiki Beach is a few steps away and exploring the many tidepools in the lava rocks was fascinating. Very few bugs -- the geckos outside took care of that every night. Working with Gerry at the property management firm was great, being 2,500+ miles away and setting up a week-long vacation for our group could have been full of drama, but it was simple and easy. If you are looking for a house that will serve a large group, Keiki Beach is for you!
