Casa del Sol, an Akumal Landmark located along Akumal's pristine Yal-Ku Lagoon.
Casa del Sol is well known for its great location, right at the headwaters of Yal-Ku Lagoon, very private, and for its funky eclectic decor. This house is perfect for large groups or families. Casa del Sol can be rented with up to five bedrooms and can sleep up to 14 people comfortably.
The outdoor kitchen and living area on the lagoon side of the property are great for entertaining and family get togethers. Access to the lagoon is very easy, just down the garden path and across your own private bridge into the cool clear water of Yal-Ku where you can snorkel with the fish all day long.
Casa del Sol is well known for the many unique and attractive murals painted throughout the house that highlight the areas Mayan History and Natural Beauty. This house is truly one-of-a-kind and lends itself very well to people just "hanging out" together and having a great time! Merily and Obideo, the caretakers, do an excellent job. They are very charming and will take excellent care of you. They are also available to prepare meals for an additional fee, which we highly recommend you try. They do a great job!
Casa del Sol offers many amenities including gorgeous and unique swimming pool with swim against current on the lagoon side of the property. There are outdoor showers for rinsing off after snorkeling in the lagoon and tanks for rinsing your gear.
Casa del Sol offers five bedrooms and will comfortably sleep 14 people.

It is billed as "formerly owned by the Grateful Dead". That may be a strong draw for some, but strongest draw for me is that it is presently enjoyed by those who are grateful to be living!! Loads of character, amenities with soul, located on a fabulous lagoon in a very accessible small town.

Awesome house. Great location. We stayed there with 10 people, including three kids - plenty of room for all. The "backyard" snorkeling in the lagoon is so great. The staff is kind and helpful - I highly recommend having the wonderful Obidio cook you a few meals.

What a trip! Casa del Sol was more than we had expected in so many ways. Everyone on the trip was absolutely elated every minute of the day. The pool, the lagoon, the outdoor area beneath the house, the roof, and the staff.... amazing staff. Roger, the manager was so great, kind and comforting. We definitely had the sense that he was there for us. And Obideo and Merily, the staff were wonderful. They did such a good job of keeping the crazy house in order for our large group. We actually had Obideo cook for us most nights. What a nice treat that was. I actually grew to be quite fond of Obideo over the trip. We actually hung out with Obideo for most of the last night. Akumal was so wonderful. We all felt incredibly safe as well. Santos, our security guard, was always there... but truthfully, the vibe in Akumal makes you feel safe regardless. We will DEFINITELY be coming back as soon as possible! R.M.

We are just back from Casa Del Sol, and we are still awestruck by what a great place it was for our family reunion get-together. We spent most of our time just soaking in the carefree atmosphere and stunning natural surroundings, but still had time to get around to some of the area's fabulous attractions. The kids loved Xcaret and swimming with the dolphins, while the adults loved snorkeling the lagoon and trips to Aktun Chen and Tulum. Obidio and Merili were wonderful, and we really appreciated his wonderful cooking for two evening dinners. Our visitwas a truly fantastic experience at a truly unique house. We hope it never changes, and hope to return again.

If you're looking for a rowdy Cancun-style spring-break experience, Casa Del Sol may not fit your bill. But, if you are looking for peace, tranquility and access to natural wonders it is a truly unique destination. Casa Del Sol is perfect for family get-togethers; especially for those who enjoy a laid-back lifestyle and becoming one with nature. Wake up to the pleasing sounds of birds and take a morning stroll by the lagoon, and you will be swept away to a time before development pressure descended on the riviera maya. Have the excellent staff prepare a home-cooked meal for you, and you will experience true mayan hospitality. But most of all, cherish this unique home and the natural surroundings, and help keep them in their pristine state. Once you experience it, you will want to come back again and again.

This last May my boyfriend, his family and I took a trip to Akumal. There were 9 of us including a 1 year old. We stayed at Casa Del Sol for 7 days. It was awsome! The staff was amazing, Have them cook a meal for you....Yum! The house was in really good shape and the location was good. We had a blast snorkeling in Yal Ku Lagoon! The AC along with everything else worked well. I would stay again for sure!!! Beautiful property!
