New Moon - Beautifully Built Cottage with Views of Coral Bay

  My husband and I stayed at the New Moon cottage with our 10 months old son who slept in a bassinet in our bedroom. The cottage was just perfect and was equipped with everything we could imagine (microwave, toaster, outdoor grill, coffee maker, etc.). It was a nice touch that all necessary supplies such as garbage bags, toilet paper, etc. were provided. I'm used to buying those supplies again and again when we are staying at rental properties. The craftsmanship of the cottage is outstanding! The house and kitchen are much better quality than we are used to in the US. Glad that there are still people out there who can work with real wood and not just plywood! The location of the cottage is perfect, quiet, nice view, however a 4-wheel drive vehicle is required to get to the cottage. Our 10 months old enjoyed the vacation as well. Since most of the beaches are only 10-15 mins away, we could always head back to the cottage when our little one got tired or fussy. Thanks again to Catherine and Clark for their support and lending their bassinet.

  This was our second time in St. John. Last year we had stayed on the Cruz Bay side and this year we opted for Coral Bay to experience the other side of the island. We loved it! Our stay was perfect. New Moon was the perfect place for us to stay. Great location, nice and private, well stocked. We had everything we needed for the week. It was nice having the kitchen available to cook some meals. We enjoyed eating out on the patio and were entertained by the little bananquit birds, as well as some iguanas in the distance. The beaches on the Coral Bay side were great with a lot of wonderful snorkeling locations. The crowd in Coral Bay are super friendly. We also did a wonderful sunrise hike 2 mornings that was well worth it. The property was exactly as described. We were met by the property manager, who took us to the property and explained everything to us. We were then on our own to spend our week as we wanted (but her assistance was only a phone call away if we would have needed it). There were some books and maps in the house to use as references. It is definitely the quieter side of the island, but it's easy to drive over to Cruz Bay to experience additional beaches as well. We especially enjoyed the open air bedroom and bathroom style. The breezes were always refreshing.

  My husband and I stayed there April 2012 and I cannot say enough great things about New Moon. It felt like we were in heaven waking up every morning overlooking Coral Bay. The place was very clean and it was clearly well-maintained. It really made the overall experience on St. John a perfect one. I would absolutely stay there again and have recommended New Moon many times over. Plus, Cathy and Clark were very friendly and helpful (thank you both for making our stay so special!).

  It was our first time to St Johns. friends of ours invited us to come along, said they had found some cool places to rent where we could be togther, but be apart at the same time. The" New Moon" and the "Just Enough" cottages really fit the bill for this. They are both custom built cottages that give you the feeling you are living n the tree tops along with the Iguanas - very cool.. They are connected by a nicely landscaped path way and a few steps, and are maybe 30-40 yards apart. The spacing along with the thick foliage all around give you plenty of privacy while at the same time allowing you to easily get togther with your friends (or other family members). The whole place, both cottages and landscaping, are meticulously cared for and the cottages themselves are really fine works of craftsmanship. I guess the owner was once a shipbuilder and it shows. If you stay here you need to have a car. We were 2 couples (1 couple each cottage) and we split a jeep between us. Definately the best way to see the "whole" island. What a paradise. We were able to enjoy every beach as all are within an easy drive. We found that it was most comfortable to be out of the cottages by noon as it would start to get a littel hot. This sutied us fine as we generally were off snorkeling by then and didn't return til evening. The only negative is that there are a few steps involved in getting from the car to the cottages, so you dont want to forget to many things and you need to be a little careful after a night out at Skinny Legs! We loved the place and had a great time.

  We stayed in New Moon for our honeymoon this past week, and it was absolutely perfect. All interactions with the Property Managers were great. They were so helpful with everything we needed and had great recommendations for the island. The house was so clean and beautiful. We loved our morning coffee on the deck looking at other houses across the valley, the sailboats in Coral Bay, and always some iguanas, bannaquits and hummingbirds. Renting a Jeep on the island was definitely the way to go and made it so easy to check out a different beach each day. Francis Bay and Salt Pond Bay (including Drunk Bay and the Ram Head hike) were favorite spots. Dinner at Skinny Legs is a must. For something a bit fancier, we really love Rhumb Lines and The Lime Inn. We spent each night back out on the deck with a few drinks, where we could sometimes hear bands playing down in Coral Bay or just the sound of tree frogs. Both were great. We loved the open house- there are just screens in the doors, but the breeze kept us plenty cool at night and we loved sleeping to the sound of the tree frogs (and occasionally being woken in the morning by a rooster or two). We absolutely recommend this house for anyone looking for a wonderful getaway. We both said it was the hardest vacation we have ever had to leave and definitely can't wait to get back!

  Beautiful cottage on the quiet side of St. John, just as the pictures show. Clean, comfortable, and extremely private; you can see the top of Just Enough from the porch and that's it. Mosquitoes were present around the cottage, but nothing a little bug spray or mosquito coil couldn't handle. Very easy to get around to the beaches of USVI National Park by our rental jeep. Shipwreck Landing in Coral Bay was probably our favorite meal of the trip. Best snorkeling at Waterlemon Bay. There's a gourmet market in Coral Bay, Lily's I think, that has surprisingly good selection of groceries and grown-up beverages at a reasonable price. Accept that prices on the island are noticeably higher than the mainland. Go visit the Tap Room of Saint John's Brewery at Mongoose Junction too. Very friendly environment to tie on a little buzz.

  My husband and I went to New Moon for our honeymoon, and it was the most perfect getaway we could wish for. We loved the friendly/chill atmosphere of coral bay and the different beaches to choose from. Katherine the property manager was so friendly and helpful. She told us all about the island and gave us several recommendations of places to go. At the cottage we discovered a binder full of different information about Saint John. In the binder was a copy of every restaurant's menu that was in coral bay. It immediately felt like a second home. Two must do's. 1. Francis Bay for snorkeling. It's not on the recommended lists, but the locals told us to go there. We swam with wild sea turtles and manta rays.Go to the far right for coral reef snorkeling and the middle for the sea turtles. Look for sea grass patches because the turtles feed on the sea grass at the bottom of the bay. Incredible. 2. Friday's at the restaurant Aqua Bistro they serve their specialty ponzu tuna. This was by far the most delicious meal we had on the island. Great place full of friendly local people!

  Cute well-built cottage perched amid the treetops on a beautiful site above Coral Bay. Property managers were welcoming and laid-back. We were very happy to be on the lazy, friendly east end of the island -- the beaches are wilder and more secluded than on the west end, and in the bars and restaurants in and around Coral Bay there are as many locals as visitors. We spent a lot of time on the deck of New Moon listening to the goats in the valley (day) and the tree frogs (night) and watching the iguanas eat leaves in the tree canopy just below. Highly recommended.

  New Moon is a secluded, clean, quiet little sanctuary in St. John. Located in the quiet town of coral bay, just a 5 minute ride to stores, restaurants, centrally located to beaches, hiking, and everything else on st. john. Will definately stay here again! Highly recommended!
