Southwind has it all! Two houses for the price of one, a large pool with baby pool area, and handicapped accessibility. It is so well equipped, all you need to bring are your clothes!
A classic North Forest Beach property in a great location, Southwind is fun and convenient for every age group. It is on the bike trail, close to the best beach, and a four-five minute walk to Coligny with its shopping, restaurants, and entertainment. The main house is at ground level with no steps, which we all like, and a rear ramp and handicapped bathroom make it accessible to anyone with special needs. Having two houses on one property offers ideal space for both family togetherness and privacy.
What sets this house apart is not only the bonus two-story guest cottage but also the outstanding attention to comfort evident in every detail. From a spectacular pool, to good reading light in the bedrooms, to every imaginable utensil in the kitchen, the owners have thought of everything.
The decor is fabulous - the art, rugs, furnishings, and rich saturated golds, blues, and reds of Provence combine to create an atmosphere that is special from the moment you walk in. The owners have used their experience as bed and breakfast owners and long time Hilton Head visitors to make this home perfect for any family vacation.

Multiple pots of every size, baking pans, casseroles, knives, serving pieces for a crowd, several fun sets of dishes, fish forks and lobster crackers, and glasses galore. Even a cabinet fully stocked with spices. Small appliances include a pancake griddle, blender, and smoothy machine.
Screened Porch: A fabulous new addition, it connects the main house to the guest house. Nice big table for al fresco dining. Comfortable couch and chairs, teak buffet, wicker bar, and luxurious six-person spa.
Pool: One of the biggest and best private pools on the island. Enjoy the waterfall fountain and stainless steel sculpture titled "Flow". The roped off sundeck, 18" deep, is designed for sunbathing on lounge chairs in the water, but it is also a perfect wading pool. Toddlers are happy there for hours while the next generation can swim laps, play volleyball, or laze on rafts. Southwind was great! We had two families, 13 people in all and never felt like we were on top of each other. The house had everything we needed and was close to the beach and shopping. They have all of the sand toys, some beach chairs, a two man kayak and a cart to haul everything to the beach with. We got a lot of use out of the hot tub and the pool too. This is a place I would definately want to come back to. The owners are very nice to deal with too. Thanks for all of your tips and info, we had a great time!

We had a wonderful time! The location of this property is excellant! In walking distance to the beach and Coligney! We really enjoyed not getting in our car and walking to shops, restaurants and the grocery! The pool is so pretty and and we also enjoyed the hot tub!! This is a comfortable beach house with a very well equipped kitchen! We did not use the guest house but saw the inside! It is very nice and spacious! I loved the spiral staircase leading to the bedroom! The bikes were great and used everyday! We had a wonderful two weeks!!!! Thank You!!!!

DISAPPOINTING VISIT IN HILTON HEAD

PROBLEMS WITH HOUSE: 1. In house phones did not work at all. Owner explained that it was not a concern because "most people use cell phones". It is very difficult to use cell phones on Hilton Head Island - natives well aware of this fact - because of no towers to enable connection. 2. No internet connection in guest house for almost a week until repaired. 3. Garbage all over the side yard (including dirty diapers) when we arrived. 4. Bicycles had rusted chains which fell off when attempts were made to ride them. 5. The backyard pool was never totally fit to swim in. We stayed out of the pool entirely the second week. Most of the time you could not even see the bottom of the pool. We were also unable to swim in the ocean (not of course anyone's fault) because of the jellyfish. I am not writing this review easily because the owner was concerned and expressed his concern about the situation with the pool in particular in spite of the fact that it was never taken care of to our satisfaction. Also the shower on the side of the house never worked so we used the hose on the other side to clean off the sand from the beach. I just feel that a vacation we had looked forward to for over a year was not what it should have been and could have been had some simple things been taken care of before we arrived. We kept our part of the bargain - all rules laid out in the contract were followed - and we did everything we were told to do on departure.
Owner response:We make every effort to exceed guests’ expectations. All other reviews are 5 with one 4. We have numerous repeat guests. Guest in several conversations stated she was enjoying her stay. Until guest told us about landline & Wi-Fi we were unaware of problems. The base machine was working. Guest said family members used cell phones. I stated that many guests never used the landline. The batteries needed to be replaced and unavailable on the island I ordered online and informed guest. I assumed batteries were delivered since I spoke to guest on the landline. The guests who followed found them in mailbox, placed batteries phones are working. Guest told us Wi-Fi was not available in the guesthouse, good in the main house. A call was made to Hargray on Monday, they came as scheduled, and service was restored on Thursday. Our maintenance person is on site daily, and specifically checks the garbage cans and recycling containers. The cleaning service was there prior to guest check in and did not report a problem. Our maintenance person and cleaning service inspector reported there was no garbage in the yard on Saturday morning. We have five bikes for guests. They are not new. Our maintenance person inspects them weekly. He did not notice any problems and guest did not point out any problems to him or to owner. Guests the following week emphasized how much they appreciated the bikes. I received a call from the pool service company indicating the pool pump was malfunctioning on Wednesday. A new pump was installed on Thursday. They advised that although the pool did not look good, the chemicals were fine and the pool was safe to swim in. Guest indicated they understood and were using the pool. Pool company was there 1-2x per day until the problem was resolved. Guests who followed have had no complaints and indicated that they were “living” in the pool. We have an outside shower on one side of the house, a hose on the other. Guest did not mention any problems with shower. Shower has a tight on-off valve and is working. Families who have stayed the past three weeks since this guest have made only positive comments, as did all previous guests. Our maintenance person is on-site daily. The pool is serviced two times per week; the cleaning company is in each Saturday after guest checks out. Trash is picked up two times per week and recycling one time per week per contract. Our other property, Monkey Business, vrbo30362, has received only great reviews as well.

Good Stay at Southwind!

Southwind is an ideal location for a large family. Spacious, comfortable living areas, bedrooms, baths and wonderful outdoor space on the breezeway and poolside. Our family of 14 loved the house. This house was perfect as there was a crib in one of the bedrooms for the littlest one, a high chair and a pack & play for outdoors. The location is convenient and an easy walk to the beach; the beach cart was so handy to pack coolers, chairs, beach toys, umbrellas, etc...the kitchen is small and while cozy and well stocked, not gourmet, but as another post identified very well equipped. We love to cook and enjoyed fresh fish, shrimp and oysters from Barnacle Bill's. Our favorite restaurant is Santa Fe. The Painted desert soup is delish! So fun to see Greg Russell in Harbor Town-our kids loved him when they were little and now the grandkids have followed that tradition! We rented a pontoon from Palmetto Bay and the highlight of the day was when the boys caught sharks and stingrays off the sandbar where we docked. Amazing! Captain Woodys is located at Palmetto Bay and we love the grilled grouper melt or oyster po boy. Enjoyed the farmers market on Thursday in Bluffton. The guys golfed and the girls enjoyed shopping and a massage from Calm by the Seas. We have been coming to HHI for 30 years. This was our first VRBO experience -overall a pretty good experience. We would definitely consider this rental again.

This home is wonderful. The owners are awesome... quick to respond and very helpful with area interest. If considering a vacation on Hilton Head in this area, this is the house for you. My family fell in love with the area but especially the home and the ability to walk or ride a bike to most anything you would want to do. The garage is stocked full of "toys" for the pool and beach! No need to pack anything. I would recomment this home to all!

This home has everything anyone could want for comfort and entertainment. During our week here it was difficult to tear ourselves away but we went out for dinner two or three times and shopping for a few hours. The pool was perfect for little children and adults as well. The owners are very responsive to any small issue that arises and it is taken care of almost immediately. The main house is set up to provide privacy and convenience for all ages and is wheelchair accessible. Everyone in the family commented more than once that it couldn't have been more perfect for our group. It's a great place to bring all working members of the family together to spend a relaxed week together. We are already talking about doing it again next year.

We had four generations in this lovely home and cottage for a week and found it hard to leave the house and pool for the beach or any of the many restaurants and shops located in Coligny Plaza that was in easy walking distance. It was apparent the owners wanted to insure that all was well and if any small issue came up, it was taken care of immediately. The kitchen seemed small at first but was well equipped and we found that it was just the right size for any one of the five cooks in our group to display their culinary skills. The pool was perfect for adults and two wee ones to spend the day splashing around,,with the lighting and heating capability of the pool, the evenings were spent in the water and the nights were spent on extremely comfortable beds. i can't begin to describe the extremely pleasureable experience this famikly had, Thank you for sharing this beautiful home with us.

If you are looking for a place for a large extended family on Hilton Head island, this is the place to stay. We recently took our family of 6 adults and 5 children. All you need to pack are beach towels and sunscreen. Everything in the ad is correct. This place has all the amenties including wheelchair access. The ADA roll-in shower was one of a kind.I have traveled all over the US and have never stayed in such an accessible home. The pool is large and even with all of us in at one time,it didn't seem crowded. The sitting area when you enter the pool was great for my son's 15 month old. The home is located near Coligny Plaza which was one stop shopping for all of us.I have never seen so many shops, supermarkets, icecream shops, resturants in one area so close to the house. The owners are very professional, answered all our questions, and the check-in and out was very easy. I could go on and on but you get the picture. Thanks Bill&Jackie for making my wife's 65th birthday a week to remember.

Our family had a terrific time enjoying Southwind. The accommodations were perfect for all of us - six adults and six kids! We all felt like we were "at home" on vacation! My kids claim this vacation beat out Disney World. What could get better than that? :)
