Beautiful, tasteful, and large three-bedroom, three-bath house with striking views of 17th-century colonial town rich in arts, restaurants, cafes, and sunshine. It is located in Centro on a charming small street on a peaceful hillside just above the bustle, overlooking the cathedral and mountain landscape. It is a few blocks walk to the lovely heart of this Bohemian retreat for expatriate writers and artists: two art schools, Spanish language schools, and a choice of nearby swimming pool, hot springs, golf course, and equestrian ranch.

The bright, colorful villa has a cozy front house (two guest rooms -- which may be rented separately for $600/week) with access to the large eat-in kitchen in the main house. The rear house contains the large, quiet master bedroom and bath, library with television, and a very spacious and sunny living room with a Bose music system, two terraces and sunset views. Both houses are looked after five days a week by a wonderful housekeeper and fine cook (and cooking teacher) who will clean daily, shop for you as well as take care of your laundry. The two buildings are separated by a lush garden and dining patio, making this romantic house ideal for families with children, or for romantic couple(s).

  • My wife and I spent 6 weeks in Casa Romantica the last two weeks of February and all of March, 2009. We agree with the comments that have been left previously, but I should add that the house actually exceeded our expectations with its lush multi-terraced garden and multiple rooftop decks and views. As much as we enjoyed the accommodations, we were equally enthralled with the location and immediate neighborhood. The narrow street in front of the house actually has three tiny grocery stores in a half block span, and there is a very nice bar/restaurant right on the corner where we enjoyed excellent meals several times. The housekeeper, “Luz”, is very likable and helpful. Although she doesn’t speak English, she is very good about understanding and anticipating your needs, and communication is not a problem. Getting to know Luz was one of the highlights of our trip. During part of our time in San Miguel, family and friends came to stay with us for a week at a time, and the privacy of the separate casita worked out very nicely for everyone. I also should add that we found the owner to be very friendly and considerate. When my wife developed some medical problems that required her to be in the hospital for part of our stay, the owner of this property went out of her way to offer information, assistance, and flexibility regarding the length of our stay. We appreciated that very much.

  • My husband and I enjoyed a wonderful month in this delightful home in December and January. The owner is absolutely charming and very helpful (with terrific taste in books and music). The beautiful housekeeper, Luz, could not have more hospitable. What wonderful meals we - and she - prepared! The home is spacious and light - we loved the artwork. The view from the terrace is spectacular - especially the sunsets. My friend, who distributes French linens and stayed in another home in SMA, was very, very envious of our bed linens. The location is perfect - close to the market, the park, the square and the restaurants and shops - but still in a beautiful, old neighborhood. We love SMA and Casa Romantica and would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys life.

  • My family and I spent a delightful week in this enchanting home. We were six adults, a 3 year old, and a baby and were quite comfortable there, from the moment we walked in the door. The photos do not do it justice, nor do they really capture the calm, relaxing atmosphere. This is all not to mention the warm and inviting town where it's situated. I thought we'd be taking day trips to other towns, but there was so much to experience within walking distance that we happily never left San Miguel de Allende for that whole week. We were so lucky to have found this tranquil, beautiful home. I can't wait to go back, and I would highly recommend it to anyone.
