Centro house description
Beautiful, tasteful, and large three-bedroom, three-bath house filled with art and with striking views of '17th-century colonial town rich in arts, restaurants, cafes, and sunshine. Lower Rates for May, June, September, October.
If you enjoy outdoor space and lovely vistas, this poetic villa is quite unique . It is located in 'Centro' in a particularly desirable neighborhood on a charming small lane on a peaceful hillside just above the bustle, overlooking the nearby cathedral and mountain landscape. It is a short walk to the Jardin, the lovely heart of this town full of expatriate writers and artists: two art schools, Spanish language schools, and a nearby swimming pool, as well as hot springs, golf course, and equestrian ranch. The house comes with five-day maid service and at the corner there is a delightful popular tapas bar.
The bright, colorful villa, charmingly decorated with Mexican crafts and art, has a cozy front house (two guest rooms -- twin and Queen beds, which may be rented separately for $500/week) with access to the large eat-in kitchen in the rear main house. The main house contains the large, quiet, romantic master bedroom and bath with a Queen bed, and a separate library with television and reading space on the garden floor. Upstairs is the very spacious and sunny living room with a Bose music system and TV, two delightful terraces for entertaining and striking sunset views, as well as dining area and another smaller kitchen. Both houses are tastefully furnished and all rooms have garden access.
Casa Romantica is looked after by a wonderful housekeeper and fine cook (and cooking teacher) who will clean daily, shop for you as well as take care of your laundry. The two buildings are separated by the large lush garden and dining patio, making this romantic house ideal for families with children, or for romantic couples.
[A charming second house in the Guadalupe neighborhood is also available during the year for $1,500/MONTH: a very pretty 2-bedroom, 2 1/2 bath in Mexican style, with equally striking views, terraces and near the Jardin.

Peaceful Retreat close to Centro
Peaceful Retreat close to Centro
Our family just returned from a wonderful 6 days at Casa Romantica. We rented the entire house, including the front casita and honestly did not want to leave. The reasons for this rave review are numerous but what stands out the most is the beauty and tranquility of this Spanish-style villa. With gardens and terraces on each level, there were many places to relax, read and soak up the winter sun. The hummingbirds often visited the terraces to drink from many of the blooming flowers. Yes, this was true even in January! The house was very well kept (Gracias Luz!) with comfortable furniture to lounge on. There were plenty of plates, cups, pots and pans to cook with. The artwork in the house included numerous large and beautiful paintings, Mexican folk art, sculptures etc... The owner, Irina, was available by phone and email before and during our stay. If I was not able to get ahold of Luz, the housekeeper to answer questions, I called Irina. She is so personable and very helpful, suggesting restaurants and other places of interest. The location of this beautiful home could not be better. It is in located just a short walk from the center. There is much to see and do around the house, yet it is also quiet and relaxing. My husband had to work during our stay and brought his computer and phone to use his vonage account. The internet at the house was fast and reliable. I would highly recommend this house for both a short or long stay. We have two girls ages 7 and 10 who loved the house as much as we did. We are planning on coming back to San Miguel next year for an extended stay. As soon as we have dates we will be sure to call Irina to see if the house is available. Thanks Irina for opening up your home to us!

Very pleasant house with terrific outdoor areas
Very pleasant house with terrific outdoor areas
My husband and I and two friends stayed in this pretty art-filled, house for three weeks. There was more than enough room for four adults to sleep comfortably and enjoy their privacy. The beds were comfortable with high quality linens. The housekeeper Luz is a jewel, very kind and helpful. She took very good care of us and even invited us to her daughter's wedding at the beautiful Atotonilco church which was a wonderful cross cultural experience for us. There is more outdoor space than we could find time to utilize with fine views, many pretty plants and flowers, a bubbling fountain and a fantastic variety of birds. If you get up early enough you can watch the hot air balloons float over the town. The house is in a very nice, friendly, mixed neighborhood and the walk into Centro is downhill about ten minutes. The walk back is definitely uphill. If you don't like to walk, taxis are plentiful and cheap. There are many good restaurants and shops within walking distance. We would for sure rent this house again.

Lovely home in wonderful location
Lovely home in wonderful location
My husband, son and I stayed in Casa Romantica last January for a week. The home is absolutely lovely, with bedrooms for six. The two story house is filled with art, both classic Mexican and American contemporary. There are several patios and balconies, with views of the Parroquia. There are so many of these that I hesitate to give the number, because I may be incorrect. Suffice it to say there are many places to relax and enjoy fountains, flora and fauna, and spectacular views. Several blocks down is the Jardin; coming back, of course, is up. There is a great cantina on the corner serving tapas and drinks. Luz, the housekeeper, is spectacular at correcting one's Spanish and preparing meals of one's choosing. We hope to come back.

Exceptional vacation home
Exceptional vacation home
I was looking for a place to go in Mexico on VRBO and I and stumbled upon San Miguel. After submitting my request for this rental the owner graciously called me and we spoke for quite a while about San Miguel and her home. I was very excited after our conversation to visit this town and stay in this house with my mom, who was celebrating her birthday. The home was much more than what we expected...the views are amazing, the location was perfect, the showers hot, the beds extremely comfortable!!! I LOVED staying in this home. Luz, her housekeeper was exceptionally kind and helpful. The owner recommended to us numerous restaurants in San Miguel that we were able to go to and they were amazing!!! I highly recommend anyone to stay in this lovely home in this very charming little gem of a town in the heart of Mexico.

My wife and I spent 6 weeks in Casa Romantica the last two weeks of February and all of March, 2009. We agree with the comments that have been left previously, but I should add that the house actually exceeded our expectations with its lush multi-terraced garden and multiple rooftop decks and views. As much as we enjoyed the accommodations, we were equally enthralled with the location and immediate neighborhood. The narrow street in front of the house actually has three tiny grocery stores in a half block span, and there is a very nice bar/restaurant right on the corner where we enjoyed excellent meals several times. The housekeeper, “Luz”, is very likable and helpful. Although she doesn’t speak English, she is very good about understanding and anticipating your needs, and communication is not a problem. Getting to know Luz was one of the highlights of our trip. During part of our time in San Miguel, family and friends came to stay with us for a week at a time, and the privacy of the separate casita worked out very nicely for everyone. I also should add that we found the owner to be very friendly and considerate. When my wife developed some medical problems that required her to be in the hospital for part of our stay, the owner of this property went out of her way to offer information, assistance, and flexibility regarding the length of our stay. We appreciated that very much.

My husband and I enjoyed a wonderful month in this delightful home in December and January. The owner is absolutely charming and very helpful (with terrific taste in books and music). The beautiful housekeeper, Luz, could not have more hospitable. What wonderful meals we - and she - prepared! The home is spacious and light - we loved the artwork. The view from the terrace is spectacular - especially the sunsets. My friend, who distributes French linens and stayed in another home in SMA, was very, very envious of our bed linens. The location is perfect - close to the market, the park, the square and the restaurants and shops - but still in a beautiful, old neighborhood. We love SMA and Casa Romantica and would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys life.

Comments: A lovely, tranquil house, in the middle of a delightful part of San Miguel. The location is perfect, enough away from the busy and more touristy part of town, very much part of the life of the people living there. There is a totally private little garden, gorgeous plantings, exotic colors, and the view from the patio allows you to see beyond the town to the distant mountains. The house is charmingly decorated - with lovely local details throughout. It is quiet and is a perfect place to rejuvenate oneself, or with another.

My family and I spent a delightful week in this enchanting home. We were six adults, a 3 year old, and a baby and were quite comfortable there, from the moment we walked in the door. The photos do not do it justice, nor do they really capture the calm, relaxing atmosphere. This is all not to mention the warm and inviting town where it's situated. I thought we'd be taking day trips to other towns, but there was so much to experience within walking distance that we happily never left San Miguel de Allende for that whole week. We were so lucky to have found this tranquil, beautiful home. I can't wait to go back, and I would highly recommend it to anyone.
