My ranking is really between GOOD and EXCELLENT. I have stayed at relatives homes in Italy so when I say it is a typical Italian apartment I am referring to my experiences staying in these homes. The location of the apartment is absolutely outstanding, within walking distance of any site or church you might want to see. If you are not a walker, the buses which are excellent and cheap are a short 2 blocks from the apartment. The owner MIRELLA lives in the building and she was very helpful in giving info and the apartment had books and brochures about the city. Helpful if you did not do enough planning for your trip The owner helpfull in booking cabs and suggesting private guides. I used one and she was excellent. The apartment is very clean with an extremely comfortable bed. Linens on bed very nice and pressed, a luxury that I do not have at home. Furniture not new but comfortable Apartment is not at all "AMERICANIZED' , no air conditioning, not a problem when I was there , the kitchen very very small but adequate, I only used the micro wave to nake morning oatmeal. I did not use the day beds so I can not report on how omfortable they might be. Great coffee bar across the street for my morning coffee and croissant, Also a really good wine bar across the street. WIFI worked beautifully. Great having an elevator ,very rare in Italy. The bathroom was again very typical of an Italian apartment , strange configuration , but very clean. The shower stall was the smallest I have ever used but fine for me. I missed not haveing a washer /dryer in apartment and a land phone. However I knew when I booked the apartment that they were not included. . This is not a modernized apartment but it has everything in it that you need for a holiday stay. There is a lovely roof terrace that is available , i never used it but I was shown it and toldthat it was available whenefer I wanted to use it. It seemed to be agreat place for a glass of pre dinner wine.Recommended for: Sightseeing, people with disabilities, tourists without a car, age 55+.

My husband and I were celebrating our 30th anniversary and had 2 days in Rome before leaving on a cruise. Mirella's apartment was just great and so walkable to all the places you want to see in Rome. We didn't get to spend that much time in the apartment, since we were trying to take advantage of our time in Rome. But hope we get to return some day!Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We needed a room for one night at the end of our incredible 3-week vacation to beautiful Italy. Our request was short notice, and Mirella graciously accommodated us in her own lovely and historic apartment in central Rome (quiet street, elevator to the apartment, close to great food, shopping, and historic sights). Our bed was so comfy and definitely large enough for my 6' 5" husband and myself to sleep comfortably. The furnishings were unbelievably beautiful, and we had plenty of privacy. Mirella prepared a lovely breakfast for us early the morning of our departure and also arranged for a car, which arrived early and was waiting for us patiently when we were ready to head to the airport. We felt that we were welcomed as she would have welcomed her own family. It was a memorable stay, and we felt honored to have met Mirella and stayed in her lovely home. Thank you, Mirella, for helping us to end our beautiful Silver Anniversary Honeymoon in Italy in such a wonderful setting! :-) Ciao!Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway.

We stayed at Mirella's apartment for five days in April. The location could not be more perfect - centrally located. The apartment itself was a comfortable place to return to. The host, Mirella, is a charming person who went out of her way to make our stay free of any problems. She was always available for whatever we needed. We enjoyed our stay in Rome and would definitely return to Mirella's apartment. It was a great find and we would recommend it to anyone!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We spent a happy week in this apartment, which is comfortable, quiet, clean, well furnished, and perfectly located for people exploring the historic streets of the city on foot. Owner Mirella kindly let us check in early, explained how everything in the apartment worked, and gave us a map of the neighborhood. (She also willingly answered questions we had later since we'd had no sleep when we arrived and didn't absorb all the helpful information.) On another day she took us to the roof patio and pointed out exceptionally interesting streets and buildings. (In warmer, sunnier weather this patio would be a great place to relax.) In the apartment Mirella has provided many guidebooks to Rome as well as information on restaurants & museums. We felt we were invited to knock on her door if we had questions, and once or twice she left us flyers about special events of the week. Our experience of the apartment confirmed the pictures and information on this website; what we found was what we had anticipated. The small kitchen was fine for preparing light meals, and we could find what food we wanted in the nearby grocery store. Mirella thoughtfully provided cruets of oil & vinegar as well as salt & pepper, sugar, tea, etc. For eating out there were innumerable restaurants and cafes within a few blocks. Of course different things matter to different guests: I was especially pleased to find a good bed, extra pillows, a well-working shower, and plenty of hangers in the wardrobe. The only thing I wished for was a good reading light at the end of the sofa by the cupboard; the bed was the most comfortable & well lit place to sit to read. Our only regret was that we did not organize our days well enough to take advantage of Mirella's offer of Italian lessons.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

This will be our first choice when we are able to return to Rome. The description/pictures of the apartment and location were extremely accurate. We walked to every major monument, museum and church in Central Rome during our week-long stay. We felt as if we were living like locals in a wonderful neighborhood with wine bar, coffee bar, restaurants all on our little street. We can't emphasize how lovely and helpful Mirella was-our luggage didn't make it with us, and she spent two days calling, emailing and faxing the airline until it finally arrived at our apartment. She even stayed close to her apartment during those days, so that we wouldn't have to sit around waiting for it and could enjoy her fascinating city. She had plenty of information in the apartment regarding current activities as well as major sites and attractions. Her recommendations for meals, museums, churches, etc were all wonderful. If you are looking for a lovely cozy place to stay in a friendly little neighborhood with a caring landlady, you won't find better than this. Thank you, Mirella!!!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway.

Mirella entered our guestbook comments below, but I will reiterate them here. This apartment is in a great location, is very clean and comfortable, and is a nice, quiet place to retreat to. Mirella herself was an absolutely wonderful hostess, helping us in any way she could. When we return, this will always be our first choice of places to stay in Rome. At our average walking pace, we could walk to every one of the major sights in about 20 minutes or less. Book here, you will not regret it.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, families with teenagers, families with young children.

We rented this apartment for the first 5 nights of March. The owner, Mirella, met us at the door. She was friendly and very helpful. The apartment, while small, was well equipped and quite comfortable. It is on a quiet side street, with a church as it's neighbor. There is a small grocery store about 50 yards away. You are a 10 to 15 minute walk from the Piazza Navona, and perhaps 15 minutes from the Vatican. A beautiful tree lined walk along the Tiber is just minutes away. The apartment has a great collection of Rome guidebooks and maps. The booking process was straightforward and easy. Mirella was easy to contact and always responded to emails within a day. Her directions on how to get to the apartment were easy to follow. We want to especially thank her for booking a cab for us to the airport. As others have noted, while the apartment is great, it is Mirella that makes the difference. She obviously loves Rome and enjoys sharing it with others, she is a great ambassador for the Eternal City. We tossed a coin into the Trevi Fountain, so when we return, we will definitely try to book a stay in this apartment.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

About the owner: I live in the same building where is the apartment I rent, on the third floor. Therefore I can help guests for any eventuality. With me just upstairs, you will feel visiting family. I know my town very well as my old family lives in Rome since Julius Cesar time. I made classical studies and I have a licence in Political Sciences. I have been an official at European Union Commission in Brussels, Belgium. Then I became a teacher specializing in language teacher training. I teach Italian and French (as a second language) to students and language teaching methods to language teachers. I have many years of experience in this field. I organize for my guests: - lessons (Italian & French for foreigners, cooking, painting, art) - guided tours in Rome and outside Rome; - pick-up from/to airports, from/to Civitavecchia port. I speak French & English and I love art.
Why the Owner Chose Navona:
The apartment is in the same building than my home, so I can help my guests on every eventuality. You'll feel at home and you'll live in Rome as Romans do.
My family lives in this area since Julius Caesar's era. That's why I love and know very well my town.
One of the most valued features of the apartment is its location in the old district of Rome: it gets you away from the tourist crowds and right into a wonderful, Italian neighbourhood “Centro Storico”.
Address: Via Banchi Vecchi.
