“If you read a lot, nothing is as great as you’ve imagined. Venice is—Venice is better.”
~ Fran Lebowitz

Ideal location for Biennale!

After a long day of exploring in Venice, imagine what a pleasure it will be to return home to your own apartment in Castello, La Serenissima’s most authentic neighborhood. You’ll get a taste of the real Venice while enjoying a can’t-miss location.

The apartment is one building back from the Riva dei Sette Martiri, a wide, sunny walkway that runs along the waterfront all the way to St. Mark’s Square, just 10 minutes from your door, but a world away from the hustle and bustle of the tourist track. It's a short, picturesque walk to Venice’s major sights, as well as some of the city’s lesser-known charms, and close to both the Arsenale and Giardini vaporetto stops.

Our quiet, light-filled apartment has a comfortable and efficient floor plan. The apartment is about 600 square feet.

The spacious “matrimoniale” bedroom features a romantic canopy bed, a desk, and lots of storage for your clothes. There’s a small room that can be used as an office or a small single bedroom, and a little loft, accessed by a spiral staircase, with a desk, some games, and bookshelves full of guidebooks and novels… a perfect nook to hide out and read.

The airy open kitchen and living room area are perfect for relaxing with a glass of wine while your dinner simmers on the stove. The kitchen has good pans and knives, a four-burner stove, refrigerator and freezer, microwave, and a dishwasher. Everything you need to prepare meals is at hand, once you're done shopping for fresh fish and produce, either at the famous Rialto market or the local markets on nearby Via Garibaldi, where you'll find all the local shops and services you need. The living room couch also folds out to a double bed, so the apartment could sleep up to five, though it’s really better suited to no more than four. There is one bathroom with a shower over the tub.

The top-floor flat is up 58 steps, with no elevator, and boasts lovely views from every window. On one side, you overlook a quiet, green park and see all the way to the Lido. Watch boats plying the waters by the bell tower and cathedral on San Giorgio Maggiore and glimpse Santa Maria della Salute, visible in the distance from the bedroom and the loft.

No need to be out of touch (unless you want to be!): There is a telephone (you’ll need a calling card for long-distance calls). And there is high-speed wifi in the too (though you need to bring your own computer).

We've also taken care to make sure the apartment has little extras to make your stay comfortable. There are several pairs of rubber boots for those pesky high water days, a wheeled shopping cart so you can shop like a local, and good reading lights by the bed.

We are happy to arrange longer or shorter stays, however please note that we have a three-night minimum stay requirement and we do not make exceptions to this. We can not rent for two nights. There is no Saturday-to-Saturday stay requirement. Please contact us for availability and visit our website for additional photos and information. You will get a faster response from emailing than calling.

There was no undue hype in Linda's listing description -- -- her dream is a reality (and the stairs surmountable) enhanced by personal touches and by her careful instructions and helpful suggestions. However nothing had quite prepared me for the magic of the location. To fit into our itinerary(rather than by choice), we were in Venice at Easter time (which I guess is the most crowded time of the year with holidaymakers from Italy as well as from around the world). In the Square, and along the tourist paths, we went with the flow, carried along by the crowd. But on the short walk walk from the Square to the apartment ,crossing the second bridge was like stepping into another world--- peopled by Venetians who actually live in an unhurried environment of suburban eateries, fish market, produce market ,small shops, small "supermarket", post office and parks. The apartment is within walking distance of the Biennale site, doubtless frantic during the season, but during our visit a quiet site for a peaceful walk ,away from the crush. I dream of returning one day. Highly recommended.

My husband, daughter, ten years old, and I stayed for a week plus after Christmas. It was a great apartment and Linda was easy and accommodating to work with in organizing. The apartment is in a great location, just an half block from the canal. Buy a week pass for the vaporetto and it is smooth sailing down the grand canal or to the islands. We have stayed at many VRBOs and continue to be happy by the individual owners care to make their place special. Linda is no exception. It is a very roomy spot, great location, wonderful main bedroom and just like the images. We were lucky enough to see new years fireworks over the grand canal from the turret room window. the steps were no big deal, my husband was recovering from a broken leg and did just fine. Ideal location if going to the biennale, and an easy stroll to San Marcos or quickly take the vaporetto. Venice is amazing in the winter. Quiet enough to enjoy the local markets and gain entrance to the major museums without the huge lines. We loved the entire stay.

Our family of four stayed in this cozy apartment for our first ever visit to Venice. We were very happy with the location. Plenty of shops nearby, a 10min walk to St. Mark's along the beautiful waterfront. The bed was very comfortable, and the kitchen was more than what we needed. There is a flight of stairs up, but the view was very nice, and it was quiet, safe and private. The owner was easy to contact, professional, and had plenty of instructions to welcome you in. Overall a pleasant surprise.

We enjoyed our stay in Venice. It was summer and quite hot, but this flat is air conditioned, so coming back after sightseeing was heavenly. We did have some power issues, but they were resolved once we understood we could not run everything at once. The owner was so helpful with each and every thing, even kept in touch via e-mail while we were staying in the flat. We particularly liked the location, which was far enough away from the tourists that we felt like locals. Garibaldi Street was such a treat and right off the alley from our flat -- shops, restaurants, fruit stands, etc. The apartment is comfortable, clean and uncluttered and our owner has supplied guests with endless instructions, every little thing has been covered.

My wife and I stayed here in mid May of 2012 and I have to admit, location is the name of this place. If you don't mind climbing a few flights at the end of the day (which I don't mind), this place is your best bet. Of all my options, this was the sure thing. Linda is a breeze to deal with. Everything is close by...even the vapporetto! I would stay here again and again! No issues, simply a priviledged place. Photos make it justice and the place was in top notch condition. I would recommend it; eyes closed... The plus...Linda's guide to Venice. Worth reading and following. Made a big difference during our stay. Thanks for sharing!!! Will be back!

My wife and I spent a week in this beautiful apartment. A truly lovely place and a perfect location. The Castello area is non-touristy and quiet; a typical Venetian neighborhood. An easy walk from the Giardini vaporetto stop. The apt. is exactly like the pictures on the website. (Don't be intimidated by the 58 steps)! It was spacious, spotlessly clean, comfortable, with many lovely touches. There are views of the water from the bedroom, dining room table, and loft. The kitchen was fully equipped. The washing machine was easy to use. The outside clothesline was welcomed. The living room was comfortable. The lighting in living room, dining/kitchen, bedrooms was great. The large bedroom had huge closets, writing desk, bedside lamps, and a very comfortable queen-plus size bed. Setting up our laptop was easy. The neighborhood is quiet during the day and at night. Via Garibaldi (around the corner or down the narrow alley) has restaurants; bakeries; fresh fruit & veggie vendors; cheese, fish & meat shops; the vino sfuso store [buy bulk wines in your containers at incredibly low prices!]; post office; and a beautiful park (easy to get to the vaporetto stop without going over any bridges); ATMs almost next door - each worked with our ATM card (though it will help to know a little Italian). Working with Linda, the owner, was an absolute pleasure. She responded quickly to every email. Her information packet was complete. The information binder in the apt. is comprehensive in every way possible. Linda really knows this apt. backwards and forwards. She was able to address a small problem we had with the water heater with a quick, superbly detailed response that instantly addressed the issue. Linda's restaurant recommendations were right on! Take time to get lost in Venice - it is the best way to see this magical city! Get off the tourist track and explore. Definitely buy tickets for the Doge's Palace and the Clock Tower tours. Get vaporetto tickets ahead of time (on-line purchasing is easy & getting your tickets in Venice is easy). Go to the Rialto fish, vegetable & fruit markets, marvel at the variety and buy some. Eat at restaurants that aren't on the main tourist routes. Visit Murano. See the art in the churches. Visit San Marco's basilica. Go to San Giorgio Maggiore and take the elevator up the bell tower - there is no line and the views are great. Go to the Jewish Ghetto; take the tour from the museum. Stroll at night. This apartment and Venice = La Serenissima!

Terrific location; Great neighborhood outside the building for meals, shopping, enjoyment; Easy for 2 vaporetto stops; Easy walks to major sites; small park just outside door and very large park within 3 minute walk; kitchen is very good; washer and clothes line are a big help; internet very good/fast; only challenge is top floor location for initial entry (with luggage) but after that the top floor location is a good thing. We are a family of 4 with 2 sons ~10 and all enjoyed the apartment.

“Venice is better.” The Fran Lebowitz quote on the website seems to sum up the Venice experience perfectly. We arrived, the victims of an excruciatingly long travel day, at the Arsenale Alilaguna stop, late on Christmas Eve. Re-reading Linda’s detailed directions from there to the apartment allowed us to beeline to the front door without a single mis-step, and even the descriptions of the little quirks that accompany older buildings (which virtually all buildings in Venice are) were spot-on, allowing us to get through the ground floor door, up the stairs and into the apartment with absolutely no hassle. Once into the apartment, though, Linda and Sam’s capabilities as hosts really shone. From over five thousand miles away, they had helped us to plan for Christmas in a country we’d not been to before, and to which we arrived at one of the more difficult arrival times on the calendar: midnight Christmas Eve. The fridge had been stocked with our requested (and paid for) items – enough for snacking and a meal should we find ourselves in a pinch (we didn’t) through Christmas and the 26th, which is a fairly major family-oriented holiday in Venice. Linda also helped us to find a wonderful (and open) restaurant to make Christmas-day reservations for this very special family Christmas. Exceptionally responsive, they were even helpful and incredibly knowledgeable from their great distance when we had a minor hot water issue, putting us back on track quickly. The pictures and description of the apartment were perfectly accurate, and Linda’s volume of helpful information really bridges the gap between apartment living (where one can experience more closely what it’s like to actually live in the place being visited, but in which information of “going’s on about town” may be more limited), and hotel life (not a home, but generally stocked with helpful information about the locality). Of the three apartments we stayed in during our Italian holiday excursion, we were easily the most at home here. Depending on the attitude of those traveling with you, it is possible that Linda’s description of the apartment best sleeping 2-3 people, is completely accurate. For us, with one teen and one pre-teen, the competition to sleep in the little loft was keen, negating the problem completely, and allowing the four of us complete comfort while not having to deal with bedclothes in the living room. I sincerely hope to stay in the Dream of Venice apartment again!

My family (2 adults and 2 children, aged 12 and 14) stayed in this apartment in January 2012. It is easily accessed with two vaporetto stops nearby. We bought a 3 day pass and simply hopped on and off whenever we didn't feel like walking. Venice is magnificent and we were not disappointed by the apartment. The photos accurately reflect the apartment. The main bedroom is very spacious with a stack of storage space in cupboards. We did not use the loft space as it is rather tiny but used the pull out sofa bed instead. The apartment has all utensils and appliances that are needed as well as a small supply of the basics (tea, coffee, oil etc). It is important to stress that the stairs are very steep and the stairway is narrow but this was really only a problem upon arriving with luggage and then again leaving (but we were forewarned and besides, we needed to burn off some calories!) We felt very safe in Venice (actually in all of Italy) and we would love to return. The streets around the apartment reflect more of a 'local' feel than other parts of Venice, so it was very quiet and relaxing. Thank you Linda, we hope to return one day.

This apartment is perfect for families of small children. Myself, my husband, our three-year-old and our five-month-old have just completed a stay here and enjoyed it thoroughly. The location is ideal for sightseeing - an easy walk to Piazza San Marco. Via Garibaldi is a thirty second walk away where you can find super markets, restaurants, a few fabulous bakeries and anything else you could need or desire. The island of Sant'Elena is very close as well and perfect for a morning or afternoon run - there are also playgrounds on Sant'Elena and a little closer in the Biennale gardens for your children. The views are amazing. The apartment itself is well stocked with pots, pans, dishes, linens, etc. I definitely recommend choosing this apartment for your stay in Venice. Ms. Burbank is a pleasure to work with and very accommodating. You won't regret it :)

                      Owner info

                      Year Purchased: 2006

About the owner: We fell in love with Venice many years ago, and long dreamed of living here.

                      Why the Owner Chose Venice:
Charles Dickens summed it up well: 'Nothing in the world that you ever heard of Venice is equal to the magnificent and stupendous reality.' Owning a home here was the realization of our dream.

The Unique Benefits at this Apartment:
Our neighborhood is non-touristy, so you can sample Venetian life. Walk along the waterfront, stroll through the gardens, or stop at one of the terrific local stores for fresh product, handmade pasta, or some of the best gelato in town -- all without battling crowds.
