Kea (also known as 'Tzia' by the Greeks) is a small island of the Cyclades that has escaped the ravages of mass scale tourism. The island is reached very easily from Athens; boats leave from the port of Lavrio which is 35 minutes by car from Athens International Airport. The ferry crossing lasts 75 minutes. The island is relatively small (population 3000) but quite mountainous which gives it a larger feel. Unusual for the Cyclades, the central part of the island has many oak trees.
Perched upon a hill, 1o minute drive from the beach, is the beautiful capital of the island, the village of Ioulis. Within walking distance from there (20 minute walk or a 2 min car dirve) is a mountain ridge dotted with the remains of old windmills. Our property sits saddle-like on this ridge, offering views of the sea on both sides North and Southwest. The property includes a main house, a separate guestroom annex attached to the main house, and an independent stone building. To this one main space which includes a kitchen area and a sitting area where two persons can sleep, we have added a separate bedroom with one king-size bed as well as a large bathroom. The large shaded stone terrace in front has views over the vineyard and the sea to the North and Southwest. The independent guestroom of the main house is also included in the rental (150 feet away), thus offering independence and quiet to two other people. |
