Situated on a three-acre, woodsy setting, with a river across the street, this contemporary home is located in the town of High Falls, just 5 minutes from Stone Ridge and 15 minutes from New Paltz. The house is spacious and bright with skylights, fireplace, large deck, comfortable eat-in kitchen and large dining table that seats 10.

The open floor plan is ideal for a family vacation and entertaining. We're equipped for children with toys, crib, toddler bed, booster seat, high chair, easel, tent, single and double jogging stroller, baby backpack, kid's bike seat, alley cat, trikes and everything else you will need for a fun-filled family vacation. All less than two hours from New York City!

Owner Description

My husband and I live and work in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. He's a professor of mathematics, and I'm a freelance writer.

Why the Owner Chose High Falls

We fell in love with the area years ago, when we started traveling up with friends from Chelsea Piers to go climbing. Soon our friends had children and everybody started buying second homes in the area. We decided to start looking for places in the spring of 2004. In the spring of 2006, we purchased a house that we felt like would be perfect for our needs. It was close to friends in High Falls and New Paltz and Rosendale. Just minutes from the park and preserve we'd grown to cherish. Yet it was on the other side of the mountain so it had a great woodsy and weekend-y feel to it. It was also contemporary, functional and low maintenance.

The Unique Benefits of this House

We come up on weekends with the kids to hike, bike, swim, cook and see friends. We love to pick apples and pumpkins and run through the corn maze in the fall at markets like the Wallkill, Jenkins and Calder Family Farm. My kids also like to play in the hay maze at Davenports. Hike to Sky Top and boulder around Bonticou.

We go to Beso in New Paltz (it was written up in the WSJ two weeks ago) and 36 Main whenever we can get a night off.

In the winter we ski at Hunter or Bell-Aire. When family and friends come to town we take them to the DIA in Beacon and the FDR house and Vanderbilt mansions. We've also done cruises down the Hudson and trips to Red Hook and Hudson for antiques.

    • Absolutely LOVED this special place! Views are outstanding from the very large veranda that wraps around. This was our first visit ever to the High Falls area and I recommend a must dinner at the nearby Canal House...be sure and tour the kitchen- one of my all time favorite places to eat and visit! Picnicking and hiking every day also made for a healthy vacation. This area of the U.S is so charming and "real"...thanks!

    • We loved every minute of our week up here. The area is fantastic if you're into the outdoors. There are miles and miles of carriage roads running through Mohonk Preserve and Minnewaska State Park, so you can really enjoy the woods, the mountains and the lakes in an up close and unique way. We also enjoyed home stores in High Falls and all the local markets. The house was comfortable and well-equipped. All the rooms are spacious with good beds. The kitchen is nice and open and worked nicely for a dinner party we had one night.

    • We had a great stay! The house is spacious, well-appointed, and perfect for families. We were there for a week in the fall and loved watching the leaves change. Would be a great place for summer too, the deck is perfect for barbecues.

    • We spent a really fun week in the house. It is a great open, bright, clean house. We had three couples stay in the house for one week and we were all very comfortable. We toured, hiked, and ate most of our meals out, but the kitchen/charcoaler would be fine for cooking, with two nice big tables, one in the dining room, and one on the deck. We particularly enjoyed eating at Osso on New Platz. We plan to definitely stay there again.

    • Perfect setting near High Falls. Enjoyed the wooded location with deer on the grounds. Very roomy with lovely wrap around deck. Just a snug, mountain house feeling. We would clearly be a repeat renter. Give it a very high rating.
