The Unique Benefits at this House

The house has an interesting history so we have collected some informationstories from several of the families who occupied it at various points in time. As we understand it, the house was constructed in the 1870s for a fruit farmer and was located on the site of the Glenn Shores Golf Course. The building that currently serves as the club house for the golf course was originally the barn for this house.

In the late 1920’s Glenn Shores was developed as a resort community and the house was moved to its current site by rolling it on logs and pulling it with mules. The developer intended to use the house as a beach club for the Glenn Shores development and poured the foundations behind the house to add a large dining room. When the developer went bankrupt in 1927, the house began to be used as a summer cottage.

It was winterized and remodeled by us. Pages from the 1920’s brochure are framed and hung around the stairs and landing along with a map and renderings of the house.

Shores Club is my home six months a year. My family and I love it and sincerely hope you enjoy your summer vacation here.

Since retiring from a career in Chicago, I have operated an RV resort property management business in Michigan and Florida. That business takes me away from the house in the summer time which is why it is available for rent.

Most or our renters over the past 10 years have been family reunions for grandparents, their adult children and their grand children. The house is perfect for these kinds of family gatherings.

    • This was our second year at the Lake Michigan Shores Club Cottage and again we were pleased by the accommodations. There is plenty of room for reading, game playing, and putting together a puzzle. The upper deck provides early morning reading and views of superb sunsets at the end of the day. The large stove and dual dishwashers are very handy. It is too bad that there isn't a second refrigerator as we have to keep our drinks in coolers and need to make an ice run each day. We look forward to another year at this wonderful location.

    • We visitd last summer with a total of 3 families. It could not of worked out any better. The home is beautiful, charming with plenty of room for us all. The deck was spectacular. We could not find a better restaurant with a better deck any where close. We grilled out every night. We are unable to come this year, but will hopefully be back very soon. Thank you Michael for giving us your home for the week!

    • Thank you Michael, for a wonderful week at Shores Club Cottage. The accomodations were wonderful and so well appointed for our famly reunion. Beds and pillows are comfy , so necessary for a good R & R. We so enjoyed the spacious kitchen and ample room to prepare. The best part was being able to sit all 13 adults around one table. Even better to have 14 adirondack chairs for susnsets on the deck. We'll be back... Paula & Michael

    • We just returned home from our stay at the Shores Club. It's a beautiful vintage home with lots of gathering space. We particularly enjoyed the sunset/lake view off the huge back deck. There's a small private beach that is walking distance from the house. This home is a great choice if you are looking for privacy and want to avoid the crowds since there wasn't anybody else (literally) at this beach. It is also a great set up for rainy days where you're stuck inside. The house has a bit of a musty/mothball smell to it, but we were there early in the summer and may not have had a chance to air out properly yet. We had small children with us, and it wasn't particularly kid-friendly, but we made due. It's short on bathrooms on the second floor where the bedrooms are, but the one that is there has a HUGE shower with shower heads and knobs EVERYWHERE. It was cool, but I did have horrible flashbacks from high school gym class. Overall,we would definitely recommend it.
