A Home Away from Home

The first thing everyone notices when they arrive is the beautiful view of Balboa Park that dominates our home - the entire East wall is floor-to-ceiling windows directly overlooking the park! But our goal has been to create a home whose beauty lasts beyond first impressions. The interior has been professionally designed and filled with custom Argentinean furniture as pretty as it is comfortable. Hardwood flooring has been installed throughout, and the kitchen upgraded with modern appliances, granite counters, and beautiful wood cabinetry.

When you feel like staying in, the balcony overlooking the park provides a great place to spend an evening. Large flat screen TV's have been installed in both bedrooms and the living room when you feel like curling up and watching a movie, and the baby grande piano provides a wonderful way to entertain yourself and your guests.

An Office Away from the Office

The second bedroom has been equipped with all the convenience of a real home office: a desk, high speed wireless internet access, a printer, legal size file cabinets, and a small conference table. Floor-to-ceiling windows let the sunshine in and provide an amazing view while you work. A wall-mounted TV can provide live market conditions, if needed.

Security and Convenience

For those with their own transportation there is gated underground parking. The building requires special electronic keys to gain entry, and is monitored by a security service. There is a directory and phone in the lobby through which visitors may call up to your condo and be buzzed in from your phone. Each floor also has its own modern, top of the line washer and dryer (free to the occupants of the three condos on that floor) and a convenient trash chute for trash disposal.

                        This condo has three things many others don't . . . Location, Location, Location! I don't think our 2 months here could have been any better. Directly across the street from Balboa Park. Starbucks, 6 restaurants, cleaners, etc all within 1 block and a grocery/deli 2 blocks up 5th. The condo layout, space, furniture, electronics, etc were as advertised, but the views of Balboa Park, the city, the bay, ships, etc were more than I bargained for. Absolutely beautiful. I am NOT pleased that we have to leave. Hillcrest 1 mile north on Sixth; Gaslamp District 1.5 miles south on Sixth; Little Italy within walking distance; Balboa Park, museums, and zoo you could hit with a rock; just a fabulous location. Owners were very accesible and accommodating. Owner stopped by shortly after we arrived to make sure all was well with the property. Don't know what else to say, other than . . . If the owner would sell; I would buy! (The wife says we will absolutely be back next year!) Enjoy!

                        Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

                        We just spent January and February in this condo. We're from the pacific NW and wanted to escape the rain. We've stayed in many other vrbo homes both in the US and international. I just loved this place. It felt like staying in someone's home, looks just like the pictures. The location is fabulous and directly across from Balboa Park where we spent lots of time in the museums, walking our dogs, going to concerts and lunches. Also, really close to theaters, great restaurants (recommend Celadon, Saigon on Fifth, Prado, Cafe Zucchero for canolis), farmer's markets. We did movies, plays, beach walks (need to drive to get to the beach). The building is safe, parking is secure, people were very friendly. I read the other review and felt I should comment -- Yes, the laundry is done the hall and shared by 3 units - no big deal and I might add fab brand new washer and dryer. The furniture is antique (not old). No problems with the internet. The owners have a fully set up office with printer, fax, everything - my husband just walked in and went to work. The office is in what would be the 2nd BR and so there's an air mattress for visitors. Saw the water mark left by the previous renter and it's pretty bad (the plant overflowed and sat there for days without being wiped up.) One does need to be respectful when staying in someone's place. We would definitely stay again.

                        Recommended for: Sightseeing, people with disabilities, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway.

                        WE RENTED THIS UNIT FOR 6 WEEK THE WASHER AND DRYER ARE DOWN THE HALL AND THE DRYER WENT OUT AND THE OWNERS DIDNT SAY MUCH OR DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. THE FURNITURE IS ALL VERY OLD GREAT PICTURES OF THE UNIT BUT DOESNT LOOK LIKE THAT OMG. ANYWAY THE SHEETS WERE ALL OLD AND STAINED ONE SET DOESNT EVEN FIT ANYMORE. TOWELS WERE IN SAME CONDITION. KITCHEN FAUCET WAS NOT ON SECURELY AND MOVED AROUND WHEN YOU USED IT. PROBLEMS WITH INTERNET HAD COX OUT 3 TIMES. GREAT LOCATION LUVED PATIO BUT WOULDNT RENT THIS AGAIN IF IT WAS THE LAST PLACE IN SAN DIEGO. THAN SHE ASKED IF WOULD WATER SOME PLANTS ON THE PATIO WHICH I DID AS I LUV PLANTS ONE OF HER PLANTS IN THE LIVINGROOM WAS MOVED AS THERE WAS NO PLACE TO EVEN PUT A CUP OF COFFEE AND SHE SAID THERE WAS WATER DAMAGE AND CHARGED US $400+ TO REPAIR . THERE IS STUFF ALL OVER THE PLACE AND SHE DOESNT LIKE IT MOVED. GREAT RENTAL. YIKES

                        Owner response: We were not notified of problems from you until "after the fact". Regarding the internet, we spoke with Cox Cable to ascertain what the problems had been. The supervisor advised you called 3 times but twice you were not home when they arrived. The one time Cox was there, you requested the modem moved to an interior closet which we would never have authorized. We, nor anyone else have encountered wi-fi problems at our home, either before or after your stay. Guests are welcome to use the laundry facilities on the other 9 floors in the event of equipment not operating. All linens are from Bloomingdales and the sheets do fit the beds. There are some minor bleach stains on the fitted sheet. These sheets are 600 thread count at a cost of $500 for a set, thus I did not discard the sheets because of the quality of the linens. There are two antique chests in the home. All other furnishings were purchased new 5 years ago from Nativa, a high end decorating store in San Diego. There are 4 clay pots on the patio that have herbs for the benefit of our guests, a little extra most people enjoy. There is one live plant in the home that rarely needs water and sits on a metal stand. This stand is large, but when the pot was moved to the wooden 91 inch solid wood bookcase, it caused the 6 inch circular water stain. All security deposits are returned in entirety unless there is damage. An invoice was attached with the accounting of your deposit. The home is in exactly the same condition as the photos on the web site. It is designer decorated and has some accent pieces so it is like a home for our guests benefit. Guests are welcome to move anything they want....just return to the original location prior to departure. We always attempt to take care of any problems at the property as soon as we are made aware of it. I have never had a complaint and am very sorry you did not enjoy the property.

                      About the owner: I am a real investment broker and live in the Palm Springs Area. San Diego is my favorite place in the world. I love the weather and there are so many things to do. San Diego is a city of "neighborhoods". It's possible to visit many different locations all within a 10 minute driving distance. Little Italy, Mission Beach, Gaslamp Quarter, (it's like Manhattan but better), Point Loma, Coronado (home of the Hotel Del). It's also only an hours drive to the mountains if you miss snow!

                      Why the Owner Chose Bankers Hill (Park West):
                      This is the best location in San Diego. It's directly across the street from the world famous Balboa Park! You can walk to the Old Globe Theatre, the Zoo and many museums in the park. You can also walk to fabulous restaurants, grocery store or anything you may need. There is public transportation. It's 5 minutes from the airport.

                      The Unique Benefits at this Condo:
                      Fabulous Views, surround sound Home Entertainment Center, Top of the Line Furnishings from "Nativa" and Bloomingdales.
