Along a quiet West Kensington side street, Addison Gardens III is a vision in Victorian red brick. But that’s not the only way this home impresses. Set across the top two floors, the interiors are all white walls, contemporary furnishings and clean lines. And if you follow the wood-and-glass panelled staircase to the top, there’s a scenic surprise: a roof terrace and sitting room that flow one into the other. Having browsed nearby Westfield’s wares and the chic bars and eateries, here you can contemplate the chimney pots from the comfort of the azure sofa.

A favourite local watering-hole is vintage tea room Betty Blythe, with owner Lulu Gwynne pouring an excellent cup of Darjeeling and serving bijoux cupcakes (a dressing-up box is available for those really wanting to get into the 1920s spirit).
