This place is right on the corner of a wide white sand beach, close to two surf spots. The beach is not too crowded like Waikiki. The owner provides surfboards and snorkeling stuff, kayaks etc... so we didn't have to rent anything. We even saw turtles right in front of the house. That was pretty cool. It's only a few minutes from Haleiwa too so shopping is no hassle. The place is broken up into different sections, so you get some privacy even if there are other guests there. We stayed in the upstairs part and the view over the beach was amazing. It feels like a home, not a hotel, and everything was clean and in working order. The owner was really helpful if we had questions about where to eat or good things to do. I would definitely come back. Thank you Marlu!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers.

Growing up in San Diego surfing made this a perfect place for me. My girlfriend is a beginner surfer so Chun's Reef was great for her while I had killer waves next to her in Jocko. We kayak up the north waters for a day, snorkeling on the way. Wow...we didn't rent anything cause it was all here for us and in our sizes for fins even. The nights were crazy with a view that tops all I have seen. This is a repeat place for me and will be the one for me and my friends!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

Once I stayed at this location, I have not vacationed at any other place. I've looked and just won't get everything anywhere else from what I've looked at. The beach is great for morning walks, evening sand crab catching, and daytime swim, surf, snorkel, and kayak. I bring my swimsuits, covers, sandals, then everything else is here...all equipment. I leave my worries at home, and bring home a smile that last very long.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We stayed in the Bamboo Studio from 9/11/11 through 9/16/11. Our stay was absolutely delightful! The home is unique, full of character, and in the perfect location! We spent a huge amount of time on the beach and the lanai where we enjoyed watching the waves, turtles and the surfers. The studio reminds me of old hawaii.....classic and CLEAN!!! Marlu (owner) was a great and was on-site to help us with any questions. We loved her animals and always felt safe and welcome. There is a huge selection of beach and ocean equipment on-site. Saves a ton of money on rentals! We can't wait to return!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

Having a home vs. a hotel, was great for our small family. Since we have a 2 year a washer and dryer and kitchen were a huge plus for us! The beach was great for families with small kids, because there is also a tidal pool for the little kids!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children.
Owner response: I live to make people happy !

The house is in an amazing location, but that is honestly where all the amazing things about the house ends. Don't be fooled, this is no 4 bedroom house it is a 1 bedroom with a bed near the kitchen, 1 small bungalow and 1 other sleeping area located under the main living area. The small bungalow has a kitchenette, but to access a bathroom you must go outside as it does not actually have one. It may seem quaint, but the outside water feature is a breeding ground for mosquitoes so be prepared to itch the entire time you're there. If you want to stay in the sleeping area under the main house know that you can't sleep longer than your upstairs neighbors as the footsteps on the floor up above are extremely loud, and you can't enjoy the hammock on the lanai because of all the mosquitoes. It has the ability to sleep 10-12, but not comfortably at all. Marlu has an abundance of animals that stay on the property, the goose is extremely loud not only during the day, but at night and very early in the morning as well. Her dogs are well behaved, but she will require that you cater to her animals needs. I find it hard to believe that anything in the house has been updated, it is very old and home to many bugs, holes and a moldy musty smell. My husband has allergies and while we were out of the house he was fine, but every night his sinuses and eyes got really bad. The professional kitchen only has a cooktop, so be aware that there is no stove... Only a toaster oven. While we made the best of our stay there I would without a doubt never rent this property again. It is presented as something it definitely isn't, so don't be so quick to jump at renting this place KEEP LOOKING.Recommended for: Families with teenagers.
Owner response: My home is a 100 year old train station! The pictures and video are all updated! We have very little bugs or mosquitoes. We have three Zappesr on site. Outside the home is treated and sprayed for bugs every other month. This family had a few too many people/ teens/ that did not follow the House Rules and left the gates open several times a day among many other things. We steam clean after every use. This is my family home and I live on site. With people leaving screen doors open and food on the counters there can be a bug problem very fast- This is the Tropics. It had rained a lot before their stay. I have "Lots" of floor and ceiling fans and great cross breezes. The Garden Cottage contract notes - that the Original Train Station bathroom is a few feet away and we provide bathrobes. The bed count is on the web site. Beds are never more than a year or so old. The matteress are wrapped in plastic- no bugs. Sunset has a new 6 burner stove top. Very well equipped kitchen. Microwave/ large toaster/ confection oven. Rice cooker/ etc. Next to the kitchen is the large gas BBQ and the George Froman electric oven on the covered Lanai. We cooked a 23 pound turkey in it for Thanks Giving. Too hot to do much baking in side. The dogs are trained to not go out the front driveway gate on the highway. There are two other gates on the property to the beach. House Rules require them to be keep closed. These people left these gates open all the time and after three times, I asked them to help me get the dogs from the beach. It is over a mile long.. I was tired. Neighbors were calling three times a day etc.! The goose is 30 years old and is loud if people are coming and going in the driveway. I like this and I know who is on my property- He sleeps a lot. I do feed the animals around 7 PM.. If you have a problem with the animals ---they can be locked up at the end of the property! Just let me know. I love to have happy guests. Sincerely- Marlu West- owner on property 33 years.

It was perfect for our extended family of 7! Plenty of beds for everyone, a large kitchen and spacious living room with the front of the house 100% windows that look out over a beautiful beach you can watch the surf or the kids out on the beach. The the big screen tv was rarely used, we were on the deck day and night eating our meals and relaxing or just listening to the waves crash at night. There are as always small "sugar" ants so keeping food cleaned up helps keep them at a minimum, the driveway is narrow and you have to dodge the neighbors vehicle a bit to get in and out, but he was very freindly when we spoke to him. You can't surpass the beach in front of the house, Sharks Cove for snorkling is within walking distance and the surfing contests were just getting going and just a short drive away. There are a lot of stairs since it is 2 story, the carport has space for 2 cars and a clearing for a third if needed, we went to Ted's Bakery which has awesome to go food as well as some yummy bakery items. Foodland is very close and we were able to get all our groceries and most everything we needed when we needed it. The little town of Haleiwa (sp?) is pretty close and we had a great time there eatting Mahi Mahi burgers at the Grass Skirt and shopping while we at the famous shaved ice. Waikiki is about a 30-40 minute drive if you want to go there for the day as well. If we needed a large place again we would for certain stay at this location again.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children.

Marlu would not sell us her hiuse, so we will JUST have to retrun every year or so! This was our 10th anniv, and there is nothing as perfect as this is. I am now in Hawaii withdrawl, so pictures and memories will do until the next time! No city hassel, just the sounds of the ocean, turtles, sunsets, surfers and peace.Did you find this review helpful?
