HISTORIC BROMFIELD-BERNE HOUSE
Our home was originally built for Davenport Bromfield in 1888 to live in while he mapped out the streets of Carmel. As Carmel's first home, it has been lovingly expanded and maintained over the years and has been in our family since 1948. Our home is on the State and City register of historic homes and is now welcoming guests to share its history. The family patriarch, Dr. Eric Berne, the well-known psychiatrist and author of many books ("Games People Play"), lived here and wrote in the small studio in the gardens of the property. The house itself is situated on a large piece of land and offers abundant outdoor space with beautiful seasonal gardens.
French doors from the dining room lead to a lovely large brick patio, perfect for dining, sunning or entertaining. The deck off the breakfast area is a great spot for morning coffee or barbequeing while enjoying the garden views.
Our home offers 3 bedroom suites. The front suite has a king or 2 twins with a lovely sitting area with TV and large windows overlooking the gardens. The recently updated bathroom has a tiled shower. European luxury bedding with feather duvets, handmade quilts and antiques make the suite a warm and inviting room in which to relax, rest or curl up with a good book.
The master bedroom suite has an outstanding wall of windows overlooking the gardens. The queen bed which has been handcrafted by the owner, also has fine linens, feather duvet, memory foam mattress and custom bedding. The bathroom is large with windows to the garden, a brand new sink and nice tub with overhead shower.
The third and fourth bedrooms can be used as a two-room suite or separately sharing the bathroom, which has a shower. One room has a twin/daybed and is a cozy room with antiques, quilts, desk, TV and loads of charm. The other room has lots of windows, a patio door and a convertible bed Queen/twins. All these beds have memory foam mattresses, luxury linens, quilts and duvets. A perfect space to find privacy and quiet. There is also a library with a daybed which would be an additional bed if needed. This attractive area is just the spot to stretch out and nap, use your laptop at the desk, play games or do puzzles at the table or curl up in the adorable "garden view nook".
Our living room is warm and inviting with a large fireplace and lots of firewood, TV/DVD and wonderful bay windows. Unwind, visit and enjoy your "home away from home".
We invite you to experience a truly charmingly authentic early Carmel home and wish to welcome you soon. |
