Why the Owner Chose North Captiva Island
North Captiva has the feel of the Caribbean, but it is easier to travel to and property ownership is very uncomplicated. We also wanted our grandchildren to grow up experiencing this unspoiled natural paradise. We feel very fortunate to be able to own a home in such a paradise and want to share this with our guests.
The Unique Benefits at this House
The thing we love about our house is that we feel we are in our own world when we are there. It is nestled in the palm trees and affords great privacy. We are so close to the beach, I love to take my coffee and walk along the beach in the morning. The variety of wildlife and birds that you can see are breathtaking.
Owner's Map of North Captiva Island
We fell in love with the island the first time we saw it from the boat. It reminds us of the British Virgin Islands, where we have sailed many times. I lived in Key West as a child in the 60's- and the island and it's people are reminiscent of those happy, carefreedays. The island renews our spirits and is more beautiful every time we visit.

We had a good experience staying at Tequila Sunset from March 6-13, 2010. North Captiva is a beautiful, quiet island with beaches full of shells and opportunities to see all kinds of birds, dolphins and other wildlife. We liked that the house was close to the beach, and we had a nice observation deck from which we could see the gulf sunsets in the west and the sunrises over the harbor on the east. The house was well appointed for my husband, daughter and me. We appreciated the fact that the kitchen is well stocked, and included basic spices, flour, and other cooking staples. There are plenty of towels, including beach towels. There are some board games for quiet evenings at home, and internet access for when we wanted to keep in touch with the outside world. Property manager Carolyn lives just down the street so she was available by home or mobile phone to assist us with anything we needed. I think the renter's binder with the information about the island's amenities and check-out procedures, etc. probably needs to be updated each season. It wasn't clear what time checkout was, for example. The binder said 10 a.m. but it's now actually 9 a.m. But that small detail aside, we had a good experience. When we booked our week, owner Donna Ellswick was very responsive to my questions about the house and North Captiva. It's evident that she has great affection for the place and wants to share that feeling with visitors who stay at her home.

This place is amazing! There is nothing more that you could want or need on the island that Tequila Sunset offers. Donna (owner) and Carolyn (on Island Property manager) are wonderful. My girlfriend and I will be back. For a house that sleeps 5 it is the best on the island by far. I wish I could say not to book so I could go all the time!

What a difference to stay on an island versus the mainland, a wonderful place for a week of seclusion. Tequila Sunset is a beautiful cottage that had everything you needed for the week. The accommodations were well kept and the lanai for dining was lovely. The beach is worth the short stroll down the floral and fauna lane. The golf cart was great to get around if you wanted to see other parts of the island. The only drawback was the lack of a well supplied general store with reasonable pricing on items that you may have run out of during the week. I also would not recommend eating at Barnacle Phil's.
