Pocono Mt. family retreat home

My family gathered for a much anticipated reunion in the beautiful mountains. This home was grand...many windows on all 3 floors, but especially on the second floor where the kitchen is (it had more pots/pans/dishes/appliances/spices than I have probably ever owned in my entire life & in perfect condition), the dining table was very large ...enough for all of us to eat together at the same time. The weather turned chilly when we were there and the hot tub, the fireplaces, the comfortable seating were so great. I loved waking early in the morning and relaxing on the couch just watching the clouds float by. The house temp was easy to manage & just right. Kayaks & canoe were a tremendous hit. We went to the charming town of Jim Thorpe & rode the train, visited the shops and the Fall Festival (1st weekend in Oct); had dinner in Stroudsburg another day. All in all we enjoyed this beautiful home very much.
Recommended for:Sightseeing, girls getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

Owner did not bother coming to the property prior to our arrival to turn on the heat, water, or shovel the large amount of snow covering the driveway and entrance to the house. Some of the furniture is not in good shape, there is a couch in the lower level family room that literally feels like it's going to break to pieces when you sit on it. Also, they charge a cleaning fee, but before putting our kids into the tub for a bath, we had to clean it first as there was hair in it from the previous users, so why are they charging a cleaning fee if the house isn't being cleaned properly? And most importantly, after our stay we were accused of doing damage to the wood bar, which we did not spend any time at, therefore know we didn't cause the damage, so we lost out on part of our security deposit. Nice spacious house, but we would definitely NOT recommend it...
Owner response:Joe, I am shocked and disappointed at your disgruntled review as it is the 3rd time you have rented from us and in your words "the best place we have rented". You are obviously still having a hard time understanding how leaving your children of various ages unattended to play at an expensive all wood bar could result in damage. If nobody used it why were some of the stools moved behind it and a gooey glitter spill left for me to clean up along with beer left in the sink. When speaking with my husband, you admitted the adults used the bar on Fri. and the children were playing at it unsupervised on Sat. I am sure anyone reading this can understand how unattended children from toddlers to teens could make gouges in wood. We invited you to see the damage and to be present for the repair which you chose not to do. We pride ourselves in keeping our home extremely clean and in excellent shape. Which is why we charged you to repair the gouges in the bar. I'm sure you would not have come back several times if our home was nice. I'm sorry you think your children are incapable of causing damage. If I came to your home and my children did damage, I would certainly own up to my responsibility.
