THE LOFTS
Space and light. Gleaming floorboards, high ceilings, and 100-year-old exposed columns and beams co-exist with crisp granite, chrome, and stainless steel. It’s an industrial look – but warm, welcoming, comfortable, and luxurious.

The lofts range from grand ~1,500 square-foot “studios” that can sleep six up to a 2600 square-foot luxury loft that occupies two levels in a former 19th-century pillow factory.

The sun-drenched 2600 square-foot loft is comprised of an upper level furnished with an eclectic mix of modern classics and antiques. On this floor are the expansive living, dining, and kitchen areas; enclosed master bedroom (king-sized bed); full bathroom; and laundry closet with washer and dryer. A unique custom-designed work station provides ample space for laptops and papers.

A broad, open stairway descends to the Zen-like lower level. This peaceful sanctuary contains a king-sized platform bed; sitting and work areas, closets, and a knockout bathroom with black granite tiles and a glass-enclosed shower. It’s really like a loft within a loft.

Between the two king-sized beds and a queen-sized Italian leather sleeper sofa, the apartment can sleep six comfortably. Whisper-quiet central air-conditioning keeps you cool all summer long. And thousands of books and CDs are available for your enjoyment for those quiet evenings at home.

A secluded entry porch has a café table and chairs for two. The private outdoor area is another great spot for morning coffee or afternoon sunning.

The 1500 square-foot lofts are on second and third floors (no elevator). These exciting units, in a renovated 1895 factory, are outfitted with a king-size bed, a queen-size bed, and two European-design fold-down sofas. All have a small outdoor deck with a table and chairs. The 3rd floor "penthouse" units each have a private 500-square-foot roof deck.

These are all “pure” lofts, i.e., light-filled, wide-open spaces with an enclosed, private bathroom area. The lofts have central air conditioning and two or three sides of windows, so you can get wonderful breezes. Please note that these lofts do not have traditional enclosed bedrooms. The sleeping areas with the queen- and king-size beds are at opposite ends of the loft – about 45 feet apart -- and have curtains that can be drawn for visual privacy. There is one bathroom with the toilet and tub/shower enclosed in a private space with traditional walls and door; two sinks are side-by-side right outside the enclosed bathroom area. The bathroom is accessible without having to go through any of the sleeping areas.

The penthouses have a peaked ceiling that soars to 22' in height, capped with two huge skylights. The units have a washer-dryer and a fully-equipped kitchen with Viking stove, Miele dishwasher and Sub Zero refrigerator.

All lofts are strictly non-smoking.

PARKING
All lofts have private, off-street parking just steps from the entrance.

LOCATION
The lofts are just over the Cambridge line in Somerville, two short blocks from the Davis Square Redline “T” stop. The cognoscenti know Davis Square as one of the most vibrant, desirable, and well-located of Boston’s many fabled squares and neighborhoods — a prime destination for strolling, shopping, dining, art and cultural events. In fact, Utne Reader called Davis Square one of the 15 “hippest places in North America.”

You can walk to Tufts and Harvard from the lofts. Using the “T,” a pleasant four-minute stroll from the lofts, you can be in Harvard Square in 5 minutes (2 stops), MIT in 8-10 minutes (4 stops), and in the heart of downtown/tourist Boston in 12-15 minutes (6 stops).

Even though the lofts are mere steps to the myriad shops, cafes and restaurants of Davis Square, they are very quiet – tucked away from the hustle and bustle on a residential side street.

NEIGHBORHOOD
The lofts are two blocks from the colorful neighborhood center. Among many other stores you’ll find owner-operated bakeries and small groceries; a wine shop, ice-cream parlor, butcher and 24-hour convenience market; funky retail boutiques; drug stores, post office, copy shops, banks; personal care and professional services; health and fitness providers – over 300 shops and businesses.

With over half a dozen cafes, Davis Square is prime people-watching territory. Home to academics, artists, students, musicians, and families that have lived for generations in the same house, Davis Square attracts a culturally rich and diverse population. The Somerville Theater, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is known citywide as a venue for independent and mainstream films, and cutting-edge concerts. Across the street, Johnny D’s serves up great food along with nationally known jazz, Cajun and blues bands. Davis Square hosts the weekly Somerville Farmer’s Market and many ongoing street fairs and arts festivals.

Choices for dining out are numerous and intriguing. Whether you’re hankering for Asian or American, Indian or Italian, Mexican or Mediterranean, Davis Square will please every taste with award-winning restaurants.
