Rhodeside B&B is a perfect destination for experiencing real life in Costa Rica. We are located in the province of Guanacaste on the western Nicoya Peninsula in the small rural village of Pueblo Nuevo.
Whether you are looking at the undeveloped tropical dry forest coastline of the Pacific Ocean as you drive down the mountainside to the beach or the similarly gorgeous mountains or serene pasture that surround you as you sit on the terrace, the views are stunning. Each evening brings forth unforgettable sunsets. The stars, not to be outdone by the sunsets, come out by the millions each evening, lighting the sky as you fall asleep to the sounds of coyotes singing in the mountains and waves crashing on the shores. This is a place where you truly "get away from it all".
There are two beautiful, practically private beaches nearby. Playa Bejuco within walking distance while Playa San Miguel is a ten minute drive down the mountainside. Playa Bejuco is a pretty beach that also hosts a small fishing village. There are craggy rocks to climb, little coves to explore and for the athletic swimmers a wild little tidal pool at the point. This beach is a wonderful place to ride horses or walk along the small town’s cemetery...a true glimpse of the lives of the people here.
Take the ride down the mountainside to Playa San Miguel--a long stretch of gorgeous beach-- visit the turtle people who run the Save the Turtles Organization on the beach, jog or take a long walk. The beach is good for swimming, great for surfing or boogie boarding. Take your sea kayaks into the estero from the ocean, and enjoy the serenity of the mangroves. This is truly an amazing experience.
Each morning you will be awakened not by an alarm clock or roosters crowing, but by a gentle breeze coming in your window, the sound of monkeys howling, parrots and toucans communing in the trees, horses playing in the pastures all contained within the constant background of the waves hitting the shores.
If all of that isn’t enough to get you out of bed, the aroma of true Costa Rican coffee brewing in the kitchen is sure to bring you to life. We provide a light tropical breakfast each morning. Our small café is open till noon everyday where you can enjoy a visit with us or some of the locals who are sure to be visiting each day. We have a number of paperback books and magazines to read and/or peruse at your leisure.
Our accommodations are unique. We have two octagonally shaped beautifully tiled cabinas. Double or single occupancy can be arranged. Each cabin has an indoor bathroom. Everyone uses and enjoys their shower outdoors, under a star studded sky. Two more cabinas are located under the kitchen-terrace. Each of these double occupancy cabins has an indoor bathroom and private shower. A stairway leads to the terrace from the lower cabinas where you enjoy shared use of the kitchen and terrace area.
Among a wide variety of activites we have available for a small fee: guided horseback riding and hiking the many beautiful trails that lead to incredible views of the coastline. We also offer a guided hike into the mountains for a swim in the pools created by the Chevez Waterfalls. This is a spectacular treat, only offered when the water is flowing abundantly. One mile down the road there is one of the largest open air Butterfly Farms in Costa Rica...this is an exceptional tour. Occasionally there are rodeos and small competitions in nearby towns. These are always a great source of entertainment for the whole family.
For those of you who wish to pamper yourself we can arrange appointments for an assortment of spa treats with our local massage therapists and esthetician. There are many nice restaurants nearby. Cuisine offerings vary from Italian,German, Mediterrean, to rural Costa Rican. Generally speaking these establishments are quite reasonable. You will experience something unique at each establishment, providing you a real taste of Costa Rican culture.
