Enjoy living on the beach at Seascape, a classic California Beach House! Seascape is a large beach house that families return to year after year. It was built in 1946 by our grandparents and has been in our family for four generations.
The main floor has 50 feet of picture windows providing a panoramic view of Santa Barbara to the north, of the beach, ocean, Channel Islands and to the South, a pier and island just offshore. Watch dolphins surf the waves while you eat breakfast!
Sunrise to sunset, the vista is constantly changing colors and moods. Throughout the day dolphins, seals, and an occasional whale, cruise past your windows. We have spectacular sunsets. Watch flocks of pelicans diving for fish, as a fishing boat pulls its crab pots. There is a local pair of Sea Otters that make a lively appearance as well, stealing bait from those crab pots!
Seascape is a truly turn-key vacation , just bring your suitcases!
The open space design of the main floor combines a large living room area with the gourmet kitchen and a dining area with a table that seats ten. Wherever you are on the main floor, you see the panorama of the ocean and beach. Step directly from the main floor on to the large Mahogany deck that overlooks the ocean.
Seascape is designed for multi-family use. The “Captains Quarters" on the top floor has a master & twin bedrooms, and a bathroom. It is accessed from an outside staircase, which provides separate and private accommodations from the rest of the house. It's perfect for a small family. With several families in the house, the beach becomes the living and play room during the day. Kids can safely spend the whole day on the beach building elaborate sandcastles with moats of flowing seawater, flying kites, wading, collecting shells, and boogie boarding. Parents can sit on the deck and keep an eye on things.
Because public access to the beach is limited, the beach in front of the house seems private, with an occasional couple walking by, or the lone fisherman knee deep in the water casting into the surf.
We set up the large kitchen for those who like to cook, enjoy wine and engage in conversation (We do!). The kitchen can accommodate three to four people cooking together. A renovated 1948 Wedgwood stove with a double oven, and double broilers can crank out enough food for a restaurant. A large counter curves around the kitchen. It can seat 4 people on stools, or be used for serving. The dining room table seats 10 people, in front of the wall of picture windows.
Unlimited shops and stores are a short drive away. Santa Barbara/ Montecito are a 20 minute drive, and are filled with museums, first-class stores, Trader Joes, Whole Foods, clubs and restaurants. The quaint coastal town of Carpinteria is a ten minute drive north up the highway, with supermarkets, Starbucks & owner run restaurants. Ventura is 15 minutes south on HW 101. Los Angeles is a 1.5 hour drive south. Many people have business meetings in LA during the day while their family hangs out at the beach. The Ciff House Hotel is located in our small community; you can walk to it for a Five Star treat at "The Shoals" restaurant!
For a classic California Beach House experience, spend a week...or a month, at Seascape!

We recently rented Seascape for a three- generations celebration for the college graduation of our daughter. It was the MOST CONGENIAL place our family have ever stayed. Everything was perfect. We shared meals on the deck while dolphins thrilled us leaping and playing just offshore. The beds were the most comfortable ever experienced. Boogie boards, barbecue and all equipment was superb. Even pails and shovels for our grandchild. The sunsets were breathtaking night after night. Best of all, the open space in the living area was just right for a large family and for our Open House after graduation. The cleanest beach we ever saw, quiet and private. We named the gull "Hoppy" and we nearly stumbled over the sea lions on the beach. Our family made spectacular memories in this wonderful place and I would be surprised if we don't do it again!Owner response: We are delighted that you had a wo nderful time! That one legged Seagull has been a daily vistor for at least three years, and the nickname we gave him is 'Peg Legg.'

Owner info
About the owner: Seascape was built by our Grandparents in 1949. We have spent every summer of our lives here at the beach. Our Grandparents ran a dairy farm in Newhall, California. The house was originally built a mile up the beach in front of the town La Conchita. When Highway 101 expanded from 2 lane to its current size in 1950, our grandfather moved the building to it's current site, which our grandmother selected because of it's fine white sand beach. For 30 years, our parents provided seascape to church groups for retreats, families, nuns, priests, boy and girl scouts. We guess that several thousand people have stayed here over 60 years, and all feel a special attachment to just being at Seascape.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
With 50 feet of picture windows, the Channel Islands fill the horizon. Sunsets are often stunning.
The house is big, with a large deck and immediate access to the beach 8 to 12 people can really relax and not feel crowded. The beach is ever changing. At extreme low tides, tidal pools are magical. One can walk for nearly 40 minustes along the surf in one direction before turning around and heading home, with sand dollars and shell in hand.
