My husband and I were able to have our small wedding reception at the Grand Retreat, and it was simply amazing in every way. It was the perfect weekend with close friends and family. We found that the lisiting completely described the appearance and amenities and that the property was clean and welcoming. We filled almost every bed, which were really very comfortable, and had plenty of space. We only had a couple of questions during our stay, but they were promptly answered and quickly resolved. I would certainly recommend this property to friends and family visiting the area - in fact, my husband and I are already hoping for a future return trip. The only (minor) issue we encountered included a relative lack of beach towels (remedied by my parents who live in Duluth) - but otherwise we had everything we needed (including some leftover soaps and detergents from previous guests). All in all, we are very appreciative of the wonderful opportunity to celebrate such a big day at the Grand Retreat! We certainly hope to be back soon!Recommended for: Age 55+, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children.

Twelve women from church thoroughly enjoyed your beautiful home. We thought it was especially thoughtful of you to have a large dining room table that seats 12 and was perfect for our group. We enjoyed 2 days of hiking, lots of laughter, sunshine, game playing and wisdom swapping. We are GLOW(God Loving Outdoor Women)Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

This trip was everything we could have hoped for and more. Our family and friends had a very memorable experience celebrating our wedding with us. Many saw a part of the country they had never seen before and are already thinking about return trips. Thank you so much for letting us gather and celebrate here. We feel that we are so very lucky to have been married on the North Shore.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

The name Grand Retreat is very fitting. It truly is a grand retreat. It is such an architecturally beautiful home with high ceilings, lovely furnishings, first-class appliances, top-notch fixtures, lighting, large deck with view of Lake Superior, lower patio with firepit, nice extra touches such as a pool table, amazing kitchen with table that seats 12. We took our children, grandchildren and great children and everyone had a great time.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children.
Owner response: Dee, So glad to hear you and your family had such a good time, we really do try to exceed our renters expectations. Thanks, June

As our family is growing up and adding more we need extra space so we can all hang out in the same room. We weren't all able to get together around Christmas time so we decided to make a weekend trip and go skiing. This house was great for the 10 of us. We were all able to sit around the table and in the living room and enjoy the fireplace. We stayed for a weekend and did some skiing, very easy to get to the ski resorts from the house. Appliances are all very nice and the house has a very comforting feeling to it.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children.

We stayed in the Grand Retreat to celebrate our two sons graduations;one from UMD and the other from HS. We brought both sets of grandparents along to make the weekend a wonderful celebration with our family. The home was just as pictured and perfect down to the last detail. We hiked on the roads, along the creek, and nearby trails. I loved that we had plenty of space for everyone to gather in a variety of settings, and plenty of space to get out and do your own thing. There were movies and cable TV for the kids too! We spent mornings on the deck and evenings by the firepit. We all loved our stay and would recommend it to anyone looking for a great place to gather.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, girls getaway.
Owner response: Katy, Thank you for the great review! We are pleased that our home worked well for a multiple family retreat. We hope to see you again in the future. Greg and June

We were looking for a home close to the ski hill with enough room for several couples. It was important to me that the space be comfortable for a group, relaxing and convenient. Grand Retreat met all our needs perfectly. When we arrived, the home was very clean, it is welcoming and the view in the morning is stunning. The photos on the website are very accurate, what you don't see is all of the great storage space - which we needed for ski gear, snowshoes, etc. The fireplace and living room was my favorite space. I could have spent a week curled up there with a good book. The kitchen and dining space was plenty big for several cooks to work together and enough space for your group to dine together. We woke up on Sunday morning to a beautiful sunrise and a perfect snowfall. I would recommend Grand Retreat to my friends and family. Thank you for a wonderful weekend.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, girls getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: Thanks Annette! We apprecate your commenst and are pleased that the Grand Retreat was able to accomodate your group and that you enjoyed the fireplace. Greg and June
