Why the Owner Chose Grand Lake

We have always enjoyed the beauty of Rocky Mountain National Park. We found this quiet property that boarders the park and sits on the shores of a small pristine lake several years ago and decided to build a log house on this site. The property was once a dude ranch and was homesteaded in the early 1900's. It still has a ranch feel with barns and large meadows.

The Unique Benefits at this House

We always feel refreshed after staying here. The property is in a very quiet location away from the crowds that are in many mountain resort towns. There are many opportunities to enjoy nature here - watching flocks of geese on the lake, observing moose in their habitat, elk grazing in the meadow in front of the house in the evenings, a vast sky full of stars at night. It is a retreat away from the busy stresses of life.

Owner's Map of Grand Lake

We love the mountains of Colorado and have spent most of our lives here. It has always been our dream to build a log house to share with family and friends. We discovered this quaint area that was once a dude ranch in the 1960's. It still has the feel of a mountain ranch. There is great skiing, hiking, and boating in this area. It is a year round paradise.

The Ultimate Colorado Vacation Cabin!

Guest: LarBear (Springfield Illinois)
Date of Stay: 07/23/11 Review Submitted: 08/05/11

We drove 1,100 miles, not knowing what to expect.Met my sister's family at the cabin/chalet for our long anticipated vacation for her 50th B-day. I totally agree with her summary of our time at Big Bear Retreat #11056. The cleanest, scenic, most peaceful cabin ever! Not only was the property and house perfect in every way, it's location was great for daytrips, hiking and just plain old relaxing. The views were breathtaking and this bass fisherman from the midwest caught and released his first trophy trout. My family will remember this awe inspiring trip for the rest of our lives-Thank-you to the Harringtons for sharing your little peace of heaven with us! Beyond our expectations!

My family and I celebrated my 50th birthday at Big Bear Retreat and I could not think of anyplace better. We hiked in the RMNP, rafted the whitewater, rode ski lifts, paddled the lake in the canoe and the paddleboat. My brother caught a much sought after trout and we enjoyed just relaxing by the lake and on the expansive deck. There were moose and elk sightings daily. Several moose right on the property ( including twin babies). The home was well stocked and beautifully furnished. The layout perfect for two families with teenagers! Our extensive search for the right place was well worth it. This place was wonderful! Thank you for sharing this little piece of heaven.

Thank you so much for sharing your cabin with us. We had a blast here with the cabin, boats, wildlife and the fishing. During our trip we saw 3-4 moose and dozens of elk, right here. We caught five fish including a 17" trout off the dock! Rocky Mt. National Park is one of the best parks in America and we enjoyed hiking and driving into the park several times during our stay.

Thank you for sharing your home with us. It is beautifully furnished and truly has the feel of a well-loved home. You have gone to great detail to make our stay as easy and carefree as possible. We enjoyed the trout we caught, the canoe rides around the lake, cooking smores around the campfire, and watching the two moose that grazed just off the deck! We made some lovely memories here and around Grand Lake and appreciate the role you played in making our vacation unforgettable this summer.

What a great place for a family Christmas! Thank you so mcuh for the decorations - everything was perfect. You have everything we need to be comfortable and busy. It was a beautiful all white Christmas. We snowshoed, went tubing, snowmobiling and walked in the snow. Your personal touches show the love and effort you have put into this place.

We really loved this place! We have been coming up to Grand Lake for a few years now and we always stay somewhere new. Your home has by far topped the list! The lake was lovely and the house beautiful. We enjoyed looking through the photo album of the house being built ... what a job! Thanks so much for letting us stay in your home. Hopefully we'll come back soon!

The Perfect Family Vacation

Guest: Heather (Kansas)
Date of Stay: 08/21/10 Review Submitted: 09/09/10

Our family recently stayed at the Big Bear Retreat and we had a perfect family vacation. The home is just as described in the VRBO listing but better. We had plenty of room and everything we needed to spend a day on the private lake or an evening at home barbequeing, making smores and watching movies with our 2 small children. The homeowners have gone the extra mile by creating a survival guide that gives tips on what to do in the area. We went hiking in the Rocky Mountain National Forest and spent one day on a pontoon boat on Grand Lake. It was all simply AMAZING.
