I spent three months here with 4 coworkers while in town on a special work project. This was much better than staying in an extended stay hotel. Located in West Seattle it was within walking distance to groceries, restaurants, bars, and a gym. There is a bus stop across the street that has an express route to downtown. The house was comfortable with all amenities included. The owners were very accomodating in meeting our needs and taking care of the exterior maintenance.Recommended for: Age 55+, tourists without a car, girls getaway, sightseeing.

I vacationed in Seattle with my adult children from multiple states in late September and we had a wonderful stay at the Hum House. With 4 bedrooms there was ample room for 6 adults and the house was only 10-15 minutes from downtown Seattle. I appreciated the first floor bedroom since I was able to avoid climbing any steps beyond those leading to the the front door. Teri Laffan is great to work with and we appreciated her willingness to share her home. I was looking for accommodations where we could gather together to have family fun but where everyone had the option of privacy and Hum House fit the bill perfectly. Since my other option was separate hotel rooms I found the price very reasonable at the Hum House. My youngest son and his wife preferred doing more hiking and outdoor activities and said the public transit system close to Hum House was excellent for their needs. If we ever manage to get back to Seattle again we will definitely want to stay at Hum House.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Teri and Dan- Thank you so much for providing a week that our family will remember forever! Three generations of our family from Texas and Seattle gathered here for a week of stories, outings and memory making. This beautiful house worked perfectly in every way. There was plenty of room for lounging, gathering, sleeping, bathing, and eating. Every detail was perfect. Your artwork is amazing! You are a great artist! It was so much fun to see all your work. I dabbled in watercolors and acrylics some in my youth, but haven't done anything for the last 15-20 years. It made me yearn to do it again. Maybe when I retire I can take it up again. Thank you so much for helping to make our trip a glorious event. If we get to come to Seattle again, we will be looking you up! Thank You!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

Teri and Dan, What a terrific home away from home! We absolutely loved staying at Hummingbird House! The kids had a great time as did we. You have a beautiful home that is extremely comfortable and roomy for our family of 6. At the end of the day, and the end of the sightseeing and various tours, it was nice to get out of the downtown area and retreat to the quiet and relaxing accomodations of your home. We would definetely recommend Hummingbird House to anyone wanting to visit Seattle and not have the typical hotel accomodations. Thanks for the opportunity to stay at your place! Guest: Harry Coffey Date of Stay: 01/05/09 Review Submitted: 01/05/09 Teri and Dan- Thank you for the use of your wonderful home. We were able to have a wonderful time with our children and grandchildren. We came for a visit to Seattle from California, picked up some or our family in Portland and had a great visit! Our 7 year old granddaughter did not want to leave - she felt your home was like a story book cottage and fell in love with the one "girly" bedroom. She felt like a princess! We loved being close to our son and his family. We saw Hummingbirds all week. The picture is from Jalynn ( a beautiful drawing of a Hummingbird). Jalynn LOVED the art supplies you provided. Again thank you so much for the hospitality. Harry & July CoffeyDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Teri and Dan: Thank you so much for allowing us to stay in your charming house. It truely was a home away from home for our family of 5. It was nice after our long journey back from Europe to have a restful and warm place to stay while we were waiting to move into our house. We were all very comfortable. Our teenage daughters (as well as Art and I) were thrilled with the way the rooms were decorated and with the comfy beds. The house was so well appointed it's clear you tried to think of everything to make your guests feel at home. We also appreciated being so close to everything in West Seattle. We oftened walked to the stores and restaurants. I also want to thank you both for your kindness and willingness to be flexible with us as we waited for our house to be ready. It was great meeting you both and getting to know you.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Teri -- We had a wonderful time in West Seattle. Your home was great for our family. Our kids loved painting on your easel in the backyard & exploring "the Junction" during the street festival. We will definitely vacation in Seattle again! Our son caught his first fish at the pier and our daughter took an art class at the Curious Kids shop. Thanks again for the hospitality. Kind Regards, James San Francisco, CARecommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thanks, James, Melissa and kids! I'm glad you all had a good time in West Seattle and liked our home and neighborhood. And thank you for being so conscientious and leaving a pad of paper for the kids' easel - I know they really liked it! We love having people like your family stay with us. You took great care of the Hummingbirds, flower baskets and our home! Thanks again and we look forward to you returning ..... Teri (owner)

Thank you for sharing your home with us for the past week. I has been a peaceful haven for my family after a day of exploration in Seattle. I especially enjoyed some quiet time in the mornings and evenings just watching the hums (hummingbirds) on the back porch. I'll really miss a little hum that I nicknamed "Twitch" - little bird can't sit on the wires or branches for more than 10-15 seconds without flapping his wings or taking off ..... just to come back to the same perch! When he settles in at one of the feeders, his little wings twitch like he's ready to take off in a moments notice. We really enjoyed our time here and hope that we can make it back to Seattle and to stay in our favorite "Hummingbird House" !Recommended for: Tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thanks so much, Barb and family for being such great guests! We love the Hummers, too, and now we call the bird you are talking about "Twitch" also - he has lived in our little tree for five years! He likes to hang out on the chimes near the hanging plants and always moves his head back and forth looking for other birds trying to sneak and get the nectar! We hope you will come back and stay with us again! Thanks, Teri and Dan
