It was very disappointing, not to mention extremely uncomfortable, for my grandson to sleep on a box spring, NO mattress , in the lower level bedroom. I am amazed that there was no top mattress for him!
Owner response:Kathy we apologize for your disappointment in the mattress. The basement bedroom bunk beds have standard single mattresses since a box spring/mattress combination does not fit into a bunk bed. We can assure you however that the mattress was not a box spring and we will also review the existing mattress for a possible upgrade if needed. Greg and June

We loved the house..... We had 3 families with a total of 5 adults and 5 children. There were plenty of places for everyone to go. The kids hung out in the basement playing games and watching the plasma tv. The adults preferred the sun room to hang out in. The house is less then 10 minutes to the ski hill. Some of us went there to ski and others went for relaxation so this house is perfect for everyone. We did find that it is too hard to come home at lunch and re-park at the ski hill, Lutsen does not have a lot of parking spaces. It's best to pack your lunch and stay there for the day. The fire place was a bit of a pain. It's an environmental fire place and because it does not have a vent we had difficulty keeping our fire going unless someone was constanting on it. Other then that the house is nice, clean and great for families. Grand Maris is a good place to go and visit the shops. All and all awesome place.
Owner response:Thanks Christy! Were happy to hear that your family trip went well and that the house provided your family with space needed to be comfortable. The fireplace should have worked better than that and should stay lit until the wood is gone so that is on my list of items to check. Greg and June

The Forest Chalet was the perfect getaway place for our group of friends. We had more than enough room for our group. The chalet was absolutely beautiful, well appointed with everything you could possibly ever need and the views were amazing. At night, sitting around the bon fire, star gazing with our friends, listening to the sounds of nature was the perfect ending to perfect days of hiking and sight seeing. Doesn't get much better than that. What made the Forest Chalet a perfect place to spend the weekend was the variety of activities available in the surrounding areas but also at the house itself. Because of the diversity of our group, we were able to play games, watch movies, go hiking outside the back door or just sit and laugh about the "good old days". We were never bored, in fact, I wish we had a few extra days just to relax. I think the Chalet would be an excellent place for families too. The kitchen was amazing coming from a woman's stand point! It had everything in it. Made you feel like you were "home away from home". Although we went out some of the times, coming back to the chalet, we enjoyed spending time together in the large kitchen getting snacks together. And of course, you can't forget the BIG screen television! That was the highlight for the guys. They loved watching the old movies on it together. The owners left us suggestions on places of interest, restaurants to try and hiking areas that were very helpful. They were also very gracious hosts making every effort to ensure our special weekend went well from the time we booked the chalet to the time we checked out. The only regret we had was that the time was not long enough there. Next time we would definitely stay longer. "What is this life if full of care; we have no time to stand and stare." These famous lines from the poem "Leisure" by W H Davis sum up my attitude towards life and the weekend at the Forest Chalet.

We booked this Forest Chalet the weekend of Jan. 15-17 2010 as a family gathering for my mom who was loosing the fight against cancer. We all had a wonderful time and enjoyed the beautiful winter wonderland. Mom always loved the North Shore and she had a very memorable time. Mom passed away today and we are all so thankful we were able to enjoy the weekend with her. Thank you June and Greg for your hospitality. The O'Day's and Donahue's
