Our stay at the Mulberry House was truly remarkable. It's such a unique place- so home like and comfortable. The owners are very welcoming in the Southern tradition, and do everything to make you comfortable. The cottage itself is beautifully decorated and quite spacious. We had our grown daughter with us, and she was fine with sleeping on the sofa bed. The cottage was well stocked even with yummy snacks in the refrigerator! We were thrilled to be there and wish we could have stayed longer. We can't recommend enough. Lastly, it is just like it looks like in the pictures, only better.

Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Owner response: Sally, it was such a pleasure to have you and your family here! We can almost always count on really enjoying the guests who choose to stay with us and your and your family were our kind of people-something about a shared sensibility. Do come again!

The beauty of travel, besides all the wonderful learning experiences and fun that it brings, is that it sometimes presents us with a very special, deeply felt connection to a certain place. It doesn't happen every time, but when it does, WOW! That place becomes permanently entrenched in your heart. Well, that is exactly what happened to my husband and myself in Nashville, and specifically at Mulberry Cottage. I know that this may sound terribly cliche, but words truly cannot do justice in describing this charming place. From the moment we entered, having been warmly greeted by Doug, we were enchanted. The decor and furnishings are highest-end luxury, and the artwork brings life and soul to the space. Luxe though it is, this is not a sterile 5 star hotel: every inch of the home lovingly pays homage to the city and countryside that surround it. Catherine's generous breakfast offerings (yummy granola, fresh bread, eggs, cheeses, juice, coffee, etc.) got us off on a bright and happy note each morning, ready to explore fascinating Nashville and its neighbouring rural communities. The location is wonderful; we enjoyed a great walk into the funky hipster community of 12 South, where you have super cool shops like Imogene + Willie's (hand crafted jeans and much, much more), Katy K's Ranch Dressing (rockabilly cool vintage stuff), the Frothy Monkey for yummy chai lattes amongst many other offerings, and one of our favourite fun restaurants, Urban Grub. Downtown is just a short drive away, as is up-and-coming East Nashville. Be sure to check out Margot's for lovely southern-tinged French cuisine, and hit up the Five Spot for some cool indie music and a great local vibe. City House, a funky restaurant in Germantown, was awesome as well! After forays out on the stunning Natchez Trace, and hoofing all over town, coming home to Mulberry Cottage was such a treat. If only there were more time to flip through the fascinating books and have a soak in the beautifully restored claw-foot tub! Ah well, next time! It was our great pleasure to meet Catherine and Doug, truly gracious hosts and interesting and fun people to boot! We left our heart at Mulberry Cottage, and will most certainly return in the near future! Kim and Mike Wilton Toronto, ON Canada

Owner response: Thanks, Kim, for your very gracious review. We adored having you two adventurous souls as our guests--you saw and did more in a few days than many do in a week or more. It was a pleasure to see Nashville anew through smart, sassy Canadian eyes. Come again, and we'll go with you next time!

My wife and I returned to Nashville for 3 nights in October for an event at Vanderbilt Medical Center and decided to stay in an inn or B&B. After an extensive search, we settled on the Mulberry House cottage and what a great choice it was. Owners Catherine and Doug have done a wonderful renovation on an old carriage house behind their main house and guests are treated to all the comforts of home but with magnificent decorations and art pieces formerly in Catherine's Nashville gallery. There is a large great room with plenty of space for entertaining as we did on one of our nights. The kitchen is complete and well supplied with all the necessities plus special treats customized according to the tastes of the guests. The bedroom and bathroom are also spacious and comfortable. We were delighted with our choice of the Mulberry House, were proud to show it off to our old Nashville friends and would recommend it heartily to anyone needing a short or long term stay in Music City. While guest privacy is well-maintained, the owners are readily available to deal with any problems or answer any questions. The location is very convenient to downtown Nashville as well as the Green Hills shopping area and the local colleges such as Vanderbilt, Belmont and Lipscomb. 5 stars from us for a first class accommodation.

Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Owner response: One of the delights of having our cottage is meeting interesting people from around the country and the world. So often we discover kindred spirits who share our love of travel and of Nashville. We enjoyed so much meeting the two of you, and hope to see more of you in the future!

We chose the Mullberry House as our "home away form home" for our daughters wedding because we wanted something special for the very special time in our lives. It is a great location, close to everything we needed. We had plenty of room to spread out with all our stuff for the wedding. It was such a joy to arrive after an 8 hour drive to find that we did not have to go out for breakfast groceries. The kitchen and fridge was completely stocked. We would recommend this place for sure.

My husband selected this cottage for a weekend getaway to celebrate our five-year wedding anniversary. It was the perfect pick! It is so beautifully decorated and had all the amenities we wanted. We loved having the kitchen already stocked with everything we needed to make breakfast each morning. Catherine had even purchased "five-year" aged Gouda cheese in honor of our five-year anniversary, it was such a special touch! The cottage was so comfortable and the perfect size. It was nice that the owners' house is right there on the property so if you need anything, you can just knock on their door. The fence around the cottage gives privacy. We loved it and would definitely stay there again if we are in the Nashville area!

A lovely private cottage in a quiet neighborhood. Our hosts, Catherine and Doug were very accommodating and thoughtful during our stay. They provided a bountiful array of breakfast items including fresh fruit ,freshly baked bread and homemade granola. The furnishings in the cottage were upscale and wonderful art adorned the walls. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend this place to our friends..in fact I just did yesterday! Thanks for the hospitality.

Everything about our stay at Mulberry House was delightful! We came to Nashville for our daughter's Vanderbilt graduation, and were sorry that we did not discover this amazing cottage early in her Vandy career. We were enchanted from the moment we walked through the gate to discover our beautiful private garden. The cottage's wonderfully eclectic collection of art and furnishings, and the well stocked kitchen (beer and sodas, wonderful bread, cookies, cheese, berries, eggs, and the best granola I have ever tasted) were simply amazing. The location is perfect! The beautiful tree lined streets around the cottage are a perfect place for a brisk walk, and there is a lovely park nearby. And yet, you are just minutes away from the trendy 12south area, the Universities, and the fun of downtown Nashville. I have found many lovely places to stay through VRBO, but nothing compares to the warmth and charm of this little Nashville jewel.

Our first trip to Nashville, It was just my husband and me, the Mulberry house was the perfect place. It is pretty centrally located and simple to get around to the places we wanted to go. The Mulberry House & surrounding property was beautiful. Lots of foliage, everything was so green & lush. There's a nice privacy fence around the cottage and a little patio with a table & chairs. The house itself is charming, inside & out. Pretty much every amenity that you could want is included. We flew & didnt check our bags so wanted to travel light, so we checked with Catherine & everything we needed was there when we arrived. It was a pleasure visiting with Doug & Catherine...they were available but not "in our way." They had some good suggestions & comments for our daytrips. We wanted to do things in Nashville that we could do only in Nashville. Here are some things that we did: Grand Ole Opry - look on the website ahead of time, they have different performers each night. Right across from the Grand Ole Opry is the new & huge Opry Mills mall. Also very close is the Opryland Hotel. Country Music Hall of Fame & Museum - We spent a couple of hours there. It was interesting, but pretty predictable. It was a little difficult to find due to construction of the Music City Convention Center that is supposed to be open in 2013. Scenic drive - we went drove to Franklin, about 15 miles away. Ate breakfast at Puckett's Grocery, which was fine, but nothing great - I think we werent there at the right time of day. We bummed around Franklin & enjoyed their several antique shops. Followed the Natchez Trace back to Nashville & stopped for a late lunch at Loveless...well worth doing! I ate 4 biscuits - the peach preserves were the best! Bluebird Cafe - It was on a Monday, we stood in line at 4:30 to watch songwriters sing their original tunes on Open Mike Night. This was more impressive than I expected. Broadway Street - This is a strip of bars & bootshops, with live music in most of the bars, up&comers singing for tips. This was kind of fun. We liked Tootsie's & Bootlegger's the best. We also ate Big River Brewery & it was very good food! We checked out the website Nashvile Scene. This is where we saw that Earl Scruggs' funeral was open to the public at the Ryman. That was an amazing experience! Enjoy Nashville & the Mulberry House. (We didnt even begin to explore Civil War stuff.) It was a fun trip & we highly recommend it!

It was nice coming in from the long flight from Oregon to an instantly comfortable setting. And nice having breakfast things available when we didn't have a clue at first where to go out for breakfast. Arriving to find a Corona and lime waiting was highly appreciated, as was having a AuxIn line available on the stereo so we could plug in a smartphone and stream our hometown radio station. The eclectic collection of art is great fun. Love the mood of this place!

To cross the threshold into the garden and guest house is to enter another world of tranquility where every comfort is provided. Objets d'art from many cultures spark the imagination and delight the senses. The best homemade granola in the world with fresh berries makes a wonderful breakfast.

Because we have reason to be in Nashville frequently, we were thrilled to find Mulberry House (MH) - a special, private retreat that offers an environment perfect for productive work as well as relaxation. MH is serenity defined and offers more amenities than any local hotel. We especially enjoy the sound system and wonderful art and artifacts in this restored carriage house. MH is convenient to Green Hills, the new 12South area, Vanderbilt, Belmont, Music Row and downtown. Easy access to I-65 makes our trips to Brentwood and Franklin convenient. We were sad to leave the tremendous hospitality of Doug and Catherine and look forward to our next visit.

We love staying at Mulberry House. Catherine and Doug are great hosts, fun and gracious, and very knowledgeable about where to eat and what to do in Nashville. Situated behind their house, the setting of Mulberry House is quiet and lush, with its entrance from a wonderful private patio. The house is elegantly furnished and spacious, the amenities are great, and the bed is very comfortable. By far the best place we have stayed in Nashville.

While visiting Nashville for a month we wanted to be close to family but still have a place to call "home." A spacious and elegantly renovated carriage house became just that. Mulberry House is located in a quiet, tree-lined neighborhood just minutes away from great restaurants, entertainment and shopping. The property includes a delightful and beautifully landscaped private patio. The owners, Catherine and Doug, were gracious and welcoming "innkeepers" and we can't wait to see them again. They were so helpful and generous, never intrusive and gave great advice for dining, entertainment and sights to see. We will definitely stay at Mulberry House again, have already recommended it to friends and heartily recommend it to anyone wanted a GREAT place to stay in Nashville.

We spent 2 wks at Mulberry House and it was a wonderful, healing retreat for my husband post op open heart surgery. Catherine and Doug are the loveliest people and made sure that anything and everything we needed was there. The carriage house (cottage) is perfect...comfortable and cozy but with plenty of space. Being surrounded by the beautiful garden and quiet street made for a peaceful environment perfect for rest and relaxation. It is close to everything though....a perfect location for visiting downtown or the Universities. We are so grateful Mulberry House was there during the critical recovery period. Doug and Catherine are the perfect hosts. They respect your privacy but are available to help with whatever you need. The carriage house is an oasis in Nashville! And Catherine makes the BEST granola.....

Chris & I spent 3 fantastic nights at the Mulberry Cottage in October. Catherine & Doug are excellent hosts who provided us with everything we needed for a great getaway. The furnishings, artwork & garden were superb, and the location can't be beat. We truly felt like we were at home, but BETTER! The kitchen was so well stocked we only needed to go out for dinner, and the easy access to Granny White Parkway made all our excursions a cinch. We will definitely go back as often as possible.

Having traveled extensively, I have stayed in numerous B&B's, and none compare to my experience at the Mulberry House. Catherine and Doug are the most charming of innkeepers, warm, caring, interesting and willing to do all to ensure your stay is pleasurable. The cottage is most comfortable, and well decorated with lots of great art, and in the most peaceful of settings. The private courtyard, surrounded by old trees will keep you outdoors with a book or glass of wine. It is an ideal location, accessible to everything! You could not ask for more. I can’t imagine a better hidden gem in Nashville or beyond!

Imagine arriving at the Mulberry House after driving through the biggest thunderstorm you've ever experienced. You're tired, stressed from the drive, and hot because you happen to be visiting during one of the worst heat waves in recent history. All you want to do is relax, cool off and find your center…and that is exactly what the Mulberry House provides. Like a little oasis, the Mulberry House was exactly what we needed when we arrived in Nashville. Staying at a hotel would have just added to the stress. I cannot think of a better place to stay while in Nashville. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the proprietors who welcomed us with open arms. They took us through the cottage to show us all the amenities and then left us to get settled. What we discovered after they left was a wonderful house stocked with all of the comforts of home. Cold beverages and delicious snacks picked up from a local bakery awaited us as well as a pantry stocked with munchies and a fridge full of fresh fruit and breakfast fixings. Luxurious towels and robes were stocked in the bathroom and fine linens were on the comfortable bed. The cottage also had premium cable and Wi-Fi as well as a washer and dryer which came in very handy. All in all, the Mulberry House is a beautifully decorated, tranquil, hidden gem with all of the modern conveniences you want. We could not have been more relaxed. After being out all day in the hustle and bustle of Nashville, it was so comforting to know we were returning to our home away from home. I would absolutely recommend the Mulberry House to anyone visiting Nashville who wants to be close to everything but have their own space to relax and recharge their batteries.

I am writing after our second visit to this wonderful carriage house. The accomodations are only surpasssed only by the warmth and hospitality of the hosts. We have already reserved our third stay. We particularly enjoy the serenity and privacy of the courtyard, the fabulous goodies that Catherine leaves, the wifi (very productive place to work), the yummy bed with sheets that were air dried outside this summer (when is the last time you had sheets that fresh?). The location is very convenient to downtown, Green Hills, Brentwood and Franklin. You will not find a better value in the area.

Thanks for letting us stay at such a beautiful and cozy cottage. We were blessed to have such a nice place to relax and unwind after our graduation festivities. My parents drank coffee on the patio, and we felt like we were staying in an enchanted forest with the gorgeous trees. Everything was wonderful. Y’all even had our favorite bread in the whole world (which we can’t get back home in the Yankee North of Cleveland, Ohio.) Thank you again! We’ll miss this beautiful morning hour and Nashville. Sipping our coffee, savoring yogurt, berries and laughter on the patio at Mulberry House. Renewing a family bond with 4 sisters and our mother on her 80th birthday was made ever more memorable by our stay at your charming carriage house. We admired every artistic detail and exclaimed in excitement as we first explored each room. Our favorite pieces in birth order of the four sisters: charcoal drawings, tansu chest, hand-marbled paper art, artisan pottery. Our hosts were so welcoming and engaging that we will be temped to greet them as old friends next time we visit. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to reconnect with family in such a lovely space.

We love Mulberry Cottage! We stayed here for a month in the fall while my husband was working in Nashville and it was such a graceful nest that we felt like we were on vacation. The bed is sublime. The garden is enchanting. The location is superb. It is walking distance to the artsy 12 South District and beautiful Sevier Park, and equally well situated for trips downtown or out into the country. It is surrounded by the areas of historic interest for the history buffs, and a quick drive down Granny White Pike brings you to Radnor Lake which is wonderful for walking in the woods. The kitchen was well appointed enough for us to have most of our meals in, but there are many nice restaurants nearby. And the hosts! The wonderful hosts! We wanted to take them home with us. We are sincerely looking forward to another opportunity to sojourn at the Mulberry Cottage.

Just Perfect! We were in Nashville to attend our daughter's graduation from Vanderbilt. She lives a few doors down from the Mulberry House and was so excited that we had an occasion to stay there (it was also my birthday.) Well! As we drove away our assessment was, "This was just perfect!" The carriage house is beautifully appointed, but not fussy. The colors, artwork, lighting, and furniture all create a peaceful and calm place to nest and rest. We enjoyed looking at the artwork and inspecting the assortment of books, reading in the big chairs, and having the carriage house be the place to be with my daughter and her husband. The setting... it was like being in a chapter of "The Secret Garden", one feels quite sequestered. This ranks at the top of our travel stays! Doug graciously settled us in, and Catherine was delightful and chatted with us, answering all our questions about the art pieces displayed... very fun! Our thanks to them for the perfect weekend.

A True Gem. Our first visit to Nashville, a "Surpise Birthday Weekend" for our mom, was a huge success, largely due in part to Catherine & Doug. They could not have been more hospitable or gracious and went above and beyond to make sure our stay was a memorable one. The setting of their beautiful home and cottage was the best retreat after the end of a long day of sightseeing and shopping. Comfy cozy furniture, fantastic eclectic artwork and a fully stocked fridge were some of the highlights to name a few. No doubt about it, we will return to this wonderful haven! Thanks so much Catherine & Doug! The Columbus, OH "Women" Contingent

And their warmth and friendly hospitality are additional rewards. The kitchen is well-stocked with quality essentials, the finest cookware, and delicious breakfast treats and beverages. A Month of Music. My husband and I are songwriters and we stayed at Mulberry House from July to the end of November /08 so that we could write and become more involved with the music scene in Nashville. As songwriters and musicians, it was the ideal location. The guest house is quiet and beautifully decorated. The landscaping and beautiful old trees make it an easy place to be creative. We felt like we were living in the country, but it was only a five to ten minute drive to all the places we needed to go to regularly on Music Row. Mulberry House is also just minutes away from the Blue Bird Cafe, Douglas Corner Cafe, and Broadway Avenue, all songwriter and performer hot-spots that are a must for anyone trying to break into the Nashville music industry. Because of the location we were able to stay involved with all the music-scene activities, and still have enough time to work on our own music every day. Finally, the owners, Doug and Catherine, were the ideal hosts. They did everything possible to make our time there the best it could be. We could not have asked for a more perfect place to stay.

Because of the location we were able to stay involved with all the music-scene activities, and still have enough time to work on our own music every day. Finally, the owners, Doug and Catherine, were the ideal hosts. They did everything possible to make our time there the best it could be. We could not have asked for a more perfect place to stay.

Paradise Found! I enjoyed 3 glorious days at Mulberry House. I experienced the accommodations of a 5 star hotel in a spacious, tastefully decorated cottage. Mulberry House is located in an upscale neighborhood behind a beautiful Victorian home. But discard all your preconceptions about a Victorian cottage. Mulberry House is not cluttered with knickknacks; there's no heavily carved furniture, dark rooms or velvet curtains. Instead you will encounter airy rooms decorated with Japanese antiques, stylish comfortable furniture, authentic rugs and interesting artwork. There are lots of cozy areas where you can curl up, read and relax. Catherine and Doug are gracious hosts ready to offer suggestions but unobtrusive. I enjoyed the private walled garden just outside of the cottage. I also appreciated the many thoughtful touches, such as an excellent sound system with an extensive and wide ranging collection of CDs, gourmet coffee and fresh fruit, a cozy bathrobe, a great mattress and choice of pillows. Parking is easy. Mulberry House is a wonderful place for R&R but convenient to Nashville's many attractions.

From a Critical Innkeeper…My wife and I have been hoteliers and innkeepers for over 22 years running upscale 4 diamond level properties. We are easy guests but still hard to impress. We were both overwhelmed with Mulberry House and terribly disappointed that we didn't find this gem earlier in our trip and therefore could not stay but one glorious evening. Over a 6 week period on the road we stayed at 8 beautiful boutique properties but none matched the experience of Mulberry House...which was perfection!

What a gift! Our stay at Mulberry House was absolutely amazing! This spot was exactly what we needed for a long weekend of rest and relaxation--away from our L.A. home. My husband is in the music industry and this is an ideal spot for writing music. Quiet and peaceful. Catherine and Doug were the perfect hosts. After giving us a quick tour of the property, they showed us the beautifully decorated guest house and gave us our space and privacy. My husband and I look forward to the next time we can visit our family and friends in Nashville and stay in this cozy cottage. We LOVED it!

What an elegant place! The Mulberry House soothes the road weary traveler. If Nashville didn't have so many wonderful things to do and see--and eat--we could have spent our entire vacation lounging around this wonderful place. We appreciate all your attention to detail in furnishing the Mulberry House. And the well-stocked refrigerator and breakfast foods spoke to our concern for our comfort. The ultimate gesture was providing us with a cake for our daughter's birthday. You have created an experience for your guests that we would like to do if we had such a place. Please don't change a thing!
