This cottage is the perfect escape for those Chicagoans looking for some quality down time but who aren't up for a long road trip or airlines. Sitting just a tad past the Illinois-Wisconsin border, the trip was under two hours for us (departing from Schaumburg IL). The owner keeps the cottage extremely tidy and one cannot help but feel a sense of home on entering. It has all the feature comforts of a full blown house: laundry room, full kitchen with oven, microwave, cooking utensils, etc. There is a flat screen TV and small stereo system. The bathroom is stocked with linens and towels. The lake tends to bustle during the day but the neighborhood was very peaceful at night. The fire pit was great to use during the cool nights we were there. There is a full sized grocery store within minutes of the place (so it is easy and convenient to stock up for the afternoon barbeque). Downtown Waterford is also very close by. It's a small town but there are a number of restaurants for those nights one wants to head out. I would say the cabin is ideal for a couple's getaway. We were very charmed by the cottage and would definitely go there again. The owner has done an excellent job in making it feel like a home away from home. There is not a sterile, bland feeling one would get from a hotel or generic furnished place. We highly recommend this property to couples and families with young children.Recommended for: Families with young children, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Thank you for your response. We do take pride in offering a clean, comfortable place to stay. You are welcome back anytime. Thanks for staying at our property and we hope to see you again soon.

Enjoyed the relaxing atomosphere. Watched the geese and baby goslings or "geeslings" as my dad said, because they were so small they did not qualify as goslings! Cooked out a few times, enjoyed the kayaks and calmness of the area. We were attending our daughter's graduation and moving her back across country. This stay provided the serene peaceful atmosphere away from the hustle and bustle of other activities. It was just what we needed after a 2 day drive to get there. We were very grateful to have found Fox River and would definitely stay again.Recommended for: Pet owners, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, girls getaway, romantic getaway, age 55+.
Owner response: Glad we could accommodate you. We enjoyed having you. Come back to visit again. You are welcome anytime

Not sure where Tiffany is coming from. There are many cute shops downtown, great places to eat and had a great time at the martini bar downtown. It's across the street from the place where you dine outside next to the river. Our dog couldn't stay out of the river and the kids caught so many fish. What a neat small town away from it all. The cabin was very cozy and clean. We already have it booked for next year.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

The house itself was nice. Includes all the amenities you would need. Very cute. However, the location is bad. The lake is very muddy and lots of alga-- wouldn't even let my dog swim in it. Not much to do in the area, only hiking. No cute stores nearby or attractions. This rental is good for hiking and sitting by a campfire only.Recommended for: Pet owners, people with disabilities, age 55+.

This was an excellent experience! We were very impressed with the cleanliness of the cabin and the friendliness of the owner. We are having a great time (leaving here in a couple of days). It is close to Lake Geneva and Milwaukee so we were able to spend time in both towns (went on a brewery tour today). Also rented a couple of boats from the nice people at River City Marina in Waterford. Did lots of fishing and relaxing. I would highly recommend this to anybody! All the comforts of home. Thanks for a great vacation! We are an all-age family; from Grandma to 21 year old son and we all had a great time...our dogs too!Recommended for: Pet owners, families with young children, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, age 55+.
Owner response: Thanks for the feedback. Hope to see you again!

Spent a couple of nights here - we lived in this area for several years and wanted to have a place to reconnect with friends. It was immaculate and in a quiet neighborhood. Large grocery with deli and multiple restaurants both eat in and take out very close. I was concerned about the weather with the forecast for 100 degrees but the window unit, 2 ceiling fans, and the extra fan I brought in anticipation of the extreme heat were perfectly adequate. The patio was shaded for much of the day and there is plenty of seating outside. Bob is quick to respond to emails or phone calls. It's small but cozy and well supplied with all the essentials! If you like to golf, Edgewood in Big Bend has 36 holes and Rivermoor in Waterford as 18. Edgewood is outstanding!Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+.
Owner response: Thanks for the feedback. We hope to see you again!
