My family & I had a great stay at the Irish Rose. Their were 7 of us and we all loved it. We are all from Wisconsin & had wanted to travel to Maine for a long time. The Irish Rose was the perfect spot for how we envisioned our trip and had plenty of room for all of us. It was clean & cozy. Clam Cove was beautiful with a great view. The owners were more than accomodating. They gave us great advice on places to eat & things to do in the area. The best was when we asked for a crock pot which they were sorry they didn't have and within a few hours they came back and they had went & bought one!! We would definitely return.. A wonderful experience!!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, families with young children.

We travelled to the Irish Rose with a family of 6, 2 adults and 4 children (ages 1 to 11). The house is huge and has lots of space for a large family to spread out in. The front porch, back deck and huge backyard provides lots of room for outdoor play, with a wonderful view of the ocean. The house was clean and while the decor is dated it suits the house perfectly and was fun to be in as an escape. Alex allowed us to enjoy the property but when we needed anything, he was helpful, including bringing over an extra hose to allow the kids to run through a sprinkler. We had a great time and recommend it entirely!Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children.

We enjoyed our recent stay at the Irish Rose. The property was exactly as described in the pictures and narrative. The home was clean, well stocked and well maintained. We found the owner to be quite plesant and helpful (he even printed off our boarding passes for us for our return flight and delivered them to the home). We had 9 women in our group and had to stagger the use of the bathrooms, but we knew that when we rented the home. The home helped make our groups stay in Maine very plesant.Recommended for: Girls getaway, age 55+, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you for your recent stay at the Irish Rose and for the wonderful review you gave us.Delighted to hear you all enjoyed yourselves. Hopefully you will come back to see us again sometime. Kind Regards, Alex and Siobhan Gilmore

The fifth bedroom is not a bedroom. It is a tiny room with no air conditioning and a twin bed. To represent that the house has five bedrooms is disingenuous. The upstairs bathroom has a small tub that you cannot take a shower in without water getting everywhere and does not drain. For some reason, the owner was consistently rude to us and seemed annoyed whenever we asked a question. We asked if we could park a motorcyle in the garage, and he said no, the rental did not cover access to the garage, which was fine; but he was really offended by the question. We didn't know where to put our used towels at the hotel and didn't see any staff to ask, so we set them in a bag at the door to the office. On the day we used the hotel pool, I asked if there was a bathroom we could use. He said no, and then asked me if I was the one who "left the towels in the parking lot" and proceeded to scold me. The pool itself was very nice. The kitchen was inadequately supplied. We did not have enough plates, silverware or basic mixing bowls in which to prepare salads, etc. The beach access and the view of Clam Cove was wonderful. However, the house is right along Route 1, so you will hear the traffic.Owner response: I am truly sorry that this family were disappointed in their rental and in me.I always took pride in my social skills as I have been dealing with the public all my life and don't believe I have ever been rude to anyone.A few issues I need to address, all our advertising gives a break down of all the bedrooms thus I am surprised that he didn't expect a room with a twin bed. At check in at our office they were given a copy of the signed contract with all the instructions on it including towel replacement. I accompanied them to the house after check in and they asked for a longer hose other than the one there so as they could wash their motor cycle.I returned shortly after with a 40 foot hose and hooked it up for them. They then asked me if they could use the garage.I informed them that it is locked and full of our personal belongings and we don't advertise use of a garage. Later that night while I was out for dinner with my wife my son calls me to say they have no towels in the house.I immediately left the dinner and went straight to them. The towels were in the closet in the bathroom.I then thought all was well . A few days later they asked me if we could put a new lock on one of the doors as they would love to open it.The lock was broken the previous week and we thought it would not be an issue as there are three other exit doors in the house. We placed an emergency call to a locksmith and he came out the very next day to change the lock. One day I noticed a big bag of wet towels in the parking lot beside the utility room. This family were in the pool at the time. They asked me if we have a public toilet which we don't have.I asked them if they left the towels there and they did.I then asked if they could let us know by coming to the office in future rather than just plonk them in the parking lot. This information was on their contract agreement so I was rather surprised by this.We have a corteousy phone in the office so I can be contacted at all times if I'm not there. Finally,we mention to all renters on check in if there is anything they need that is not supplied to please let us know and we will do our best to get it to them. The kitchen was very well stocked at thef start of the season so the only way we know if things are missing is by the guests telling us. As regards the claw foot bath tub being too small,it is the standard size.We wish they would have told us of the lack of kitchen supplies as this would have been rectified immediately. Alex

I stayed here several years ago and loved it. I am actually looking to return to this property next summer. The owners are a delight, the house is cozy and exactly like represented here, and the price is fair. The only negative thing I would say is it is VERY close to a busy road, and the road noise in the master bedroom is a bit much, but nothing that you don't adjust to by the second night. LOVE this place!Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with teenagers, sightseeing.
