I Prati is a typical Sienese farmhouse located in southern Tuscany, overlooking the Val d’Orcia valley near the medieval towns of Montepulciano, Pienza, and Sarteano.

It used to be one of the farmhouses of La Foce, the beautiful estate that was owned by Antonio and Iris Origo, author of "War in Val D'Orcia" and "Images and Shadows".  It has been restored by the actual owner, a friend of the Origo family, mantaining the original structure with living quarters on the first floor, spacious rooms, terracotta floors, exposed wooden beams and a very large fireplace in the living room.   It's a welcoming, comfortable and cosy home with bright rooms enjoying a great view on the surrounding landscape, warm colours and old solid furniture.

A small courtyard planted with climbing roses, lemon trees, and geraniums separates the main building from the stonebrick house where the owners live. A beautiful view can be enjoyed from the house and the garden.

The swimming pool overlooks the entire valley with its wheat fields, olive groves, clay hills (le Crete), and woodland leading to a range of hills dominated by the magnificent Mount Amiata, Tuscany’s highest mountain.

Located in a protected area of the valley, it is an ideal place for walking and cycling.

Although very secluded, the towns of Montepulciano and Chianciano are easily reached by car for shopping, and the motorway is only 25 minutes away.

This part of Tuscany is famous for its beautiful medieval towns, art treasures, and thermal springs. It is also the area where famous wines like the Brunello di Montalcino and the Nobile di Montepulciano are produced.

Nearby interesting sites include Montalcino, Pienza, San Gimignano, Montepulciano, San Quirico, and Bagno Vignoni.

* Cortona at 40 min. drive
* Siena, Orvieto, Arezzo and Perugia are a one-hour drive.
* Florence, Assisi, the Chianti Valley, and the seaside are one and one-half hours.
* Rome is two hours.
* Pisa is two and one-half hours.
* Train Station (Chiusi-Chianciano Terme) is a forty-minute drive.
