  Everything about Bamboo Cottage is relaxing and enjoyable. The landscaped grounds are beautiful, the view of Kalihiwai Valley from your private lanai is inspiring, the "cottage" is nicely decorated and exceedingly comfortable, and your hosts are very nice, readily available to answer your questions and make recommendations, while at the same time being highly respectful of your privacy. The hot tub is lovely after hiking Kalalau Trail on the Napali Coast or the trails in Waimea Canyon and Kokee State Parks. Even the early morning wakeup calls by the ubiquitous wild chickens are charming (though they'd probably get old if you were to stay more than one week). We enjoyed good weather, though truth be told if you're coming primarily to swim or snorkel, Kauai's north shore beaches are not good venues for those endeavors during winter. That was not a problem for us as we spent the prior week on Maui's northwest coast enjoying swimming and whale-watching at Kapalua. Lush Kauai is the perfect complement, providing excellent hiking, kayaking, and other outdoor adventures. We highly recommend stopping by Tahiti Nui to listen to live old-Hawaiian music, dining at Postcards Cafe, and sampling delicious nuts at Kauai Nut Roasters all in Hanalei Town; treating yourself to flavorful homemade ice cream at Lapperts Hawaii in Princeville Shopping Center; and catching a sunset at Kee Beach.   We arrived at Bamboo in the dark after the 40- minute drive from Lihue Airport so we couldn't see anything until morning. And then wow! The view from the back deck across a cloud forest canopy to the distant mountains accompanied by the amazing landscaping around Bamboo made for a speechless moment. We spent many hours on the deck just relaxing. With all the other beauty in the North Shore area you'd think we would have been lured away more but both my wife and I felt just sitting on that deck was our favorite part of the vacation. Bamboo has great access to grocery stores as well as many beaches. The quiet but vibrant town of Hanalei is only 10-15 min; highly recommend Bar-acuda restaurant and the muffins at the Hanalei Coffee Roasters. Maryellen and Bill were gracious hosts. Bamboo is well equipped. Only reservation in this review is I don't want others to know about it to make sure it's available when I want to go back.

  We visited this delightful home in October as part of our honeymoon. The accommodations are absolutely gorgeous and we were very, very pleased. The hot tub was a treat, but I will admit that we longed for a skylight or something so that we could better appreciate the amazing stars. Living in a city...we never get to see them! The location, near Anini Beach, is phenomenal. After exploring much of the island it became apparent that the best beach to be found was right down the road.

  We stayed here early September 2012. The yard is beautiful, tons of flowers and ponds with waterfalls, and the view from the room overlooking the rain forest is breathtaking. The rental unit is nicely appointed, but is starting to show some wear around the "edges". My biggest gripe involves trying to cook - the gas grill was totally inoperable, missing the gas diffuser. The burners on the electric stove were so old, they did not heat up evenly, making cooking a bit difficult. Dishes, glasses, cups, pans, all were old and could be replaced. I really wish owners of rental units would live in and use their properties for a couple of days to see what their renters have to put up with - most of this is avoidable with some nominal outlay. But all in all, it was a nice place to stay; peaceful, quiet and nice surroundings.

  The Bamboo Cottage was exactly what we were looking for. The view from the deck/balcony was just gorgeous and and also peacful. We really appreciated how quiet and calm our "home away from home" was and how nice and neat everything was upon our arrival. We made breakfast every morning and sat out on the balcony to enjoy the view and soak up the positive energy all around. We really loved the sounds coming from the large bamboo outside the bedroom window. Yes, we did hear the roosters in the morning (and any time they felt like making noise) but isn't that all a part of the experience... If you are looking for a beautiful view, comfy bed, and soak in the jacuzzi then this is the place for you.

  Dear Bill and Mary Ellen, It's always good to be home, but I sure do miss our lovely spot on Kauai. One of the things that made it so nice was having a wonderful place to stay- we really felt at home there, and Bamboo suited us perfectly. It's so nice to have a comfortable home away from home.   The only misleading thing is that Bamboo Cottage is much more than a cottage - it's a lovely 2nd floor aerie, beautifully constructed and outfitted, with spectacular views from the lanai and all rooms. Nothing was lacking, and the site is so relaxing that it's hard to be motivated to do much sight seeing, though there are plenty of sights in the area, and lots of fun restaurants. Particularly enjoyed the Kilauea Bakery for morning coffee and pastries or the Dolphin for fresh seafood. Owners were available and helpful.

  My husband and I had a wonderful stay at the Bamboo Cottage. The cottage was decorated beautifully and had two fresh tropical boquets to greet us. The views were wonderful from any window or the deck (which had great furniture on it) The grounds around the cottage were planted with tropicals.....lots of them! Fresh fruit was left on our doorsteep , which we enjoyed throughly. We would definately recommend this property to friends....and we want to go back again ourselves.

  We enjoyed virtually every meal en plein air while drinking in the panoramic view of the hills, canyons and gardens. What a special treat to pick up fresh fruit from the garden including lemons, limes, grapefruit, starfruit, tangelos and avocados. Exploring the Kilauea Point National Wildlife Refuse was effortless due to its proximity, and hikes to incredible vistas, secret beaches and beautiful bays were fabulous. Our last trip to Kaua'i was in 1994 . . . I can't believe we waited until 2012 to revisit this wonderful jewel in the Hawaiian Islands chain.

  My wife and I enjoyed the location, the beautiful home with very nice appointments, and especially the gorgeous landscaping, both by Mary Ellen and Bill, and by GOD! I agree, the photos do not do this gorgeous home justice. The whole island is beautiful. We enjoyed it all in the 7 days we were there. The fresh eggs and fresh fruit, some we had never eaten before was a very nice touch. We enjoyed staying in your lovely home. Thanks for a great visit. Good luck on the drag strip, Bill.
